I read the first 6 issues and wasnt impressed in the least then I heard venom was coming and thought "ok it could have gotten better...and its venom! No way they can screw it up!" which I was wrong on. Next was the hollywood arc (or before ..meh either way) and thought "ok Raimi and Bruce Campbell will be in this I gotta get it"..I wasn't impressed. Next I heard Carnage was coming and maybe I just hadne't learned my lesson or maybe I'm a glutton for punishment but I picked those issues up too.

That's four storylines I read straight through which I hated (I've also gone through various issues during all this at the comic shop all met with similer results) so my conclusion is ...Ken no like, bad medicean.

What did they do to hobgoblin?

LOL! Don't feel bad, Ken. USM is not for everyone. It has more than it's fair share of haters. It's an acquired taste.

Anyway, what did they do to Hobgoblin? Well, first of all they made him Harry. Second, he doesn't speak properly. Just grumbles and growls. Third, he looks like a yellow armadillo on fire.

And, to think we could have had Ultimate Kingsley Hobgoblin.

Yeah I read those when they came out so it's not like I just read it recently. I hate Bagleys art (didnt mind it in the 90's it was alright nothing to freak out over but now its just terrible) I understood the whole puropose of the Ult line and how "everything is different" etc and thought it was a great idea. Love X-men and Ultimates but something about Spidey just didn't jive with me (for many reasons).

I think Bendis is a great writer but to me, everytime I read an Ult.Spidey issue it just seemed like Bendis knocked it out in 5 mins so he could get back to working o nhis other great stuff like DD. And I'll be honest, it does have a "he can do no wrong" feel to it with fans, meaning, he could turn around and make Aunt May Carnage and fans would hail him as a genius and Ult.Spidey as the best book on shelves.

I like USM [most of the time], but I've never been a fan of Ult Goblin. The concept of turning into an actual Goblin monster is cool, but the trouble is that there's no similarities between ult and 616 Goblin.

No pumpkin bombs, no glider, no razorbats.....nothing. Ult Hobgoblin is even worse.

Yeah ,even Bagley stated in interviews for the celebration of 100 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man how he felt the Ult Goblin concept wasn't nailed right and how he never really got Bendis take on it either.

To think, we could have 616 Kingsley now but he is still on that damned island. :cmad:

Sadly, Bendis hasnt done much better with Ultimate GG either. I didnt care for issue 113. Once again, Norman was just just a grunting monster as the Goblin. (Plus, letting himself get tossed around by Otto like that. You're the Green Goblin, man! ACT like it!) Whatever happened to the articulate, intelligent Goblin that I know so well? :csad:

Gar! I gotta forget that. Wash the bad taste out of my mouth. Here is another Harry/New Goblin music vid. Featuring Harry owning Venom. :D

there just trying new things.
Ex. UltVenom, he fights with the suit and not his webs.

the people at USM just think that trying new things might be for the better.

I never minded that Ultimate Green Goblin was an actual Goblin, just didnt like how hes basically the Hulk with horns and fire. He should be small and skinny, yet ripped as hell. And he should be intelectual and at least utilize some gadgets like the glider and pumpkin bombs. Then give him the hood and cape he had in the first 2 arcs and bam I would love it.

I never got used to USM. Everytime I read it, I felt awkward because there were different things in there. It was unlike all of the other Spidey comics. I understand that they were trying to do something new and fresh for the character and that was making USM and it was fesh, but it was something I knew I wouldn't love.

I was shocked when I first saw Ultimate Goblin, and not really in a good way. I felt that it wasn't right for them to make Hulk-Green Goblin. If there were going to make Green Goblin and make him look different, then why couldn't they have just changed his costume?

I can't believe someone designed the Ultimate Goblins and Ultimate Shocker to look that way on purpose.

Whats Ult. Shocker look like?

...He's an ultimate push-over. Anytime he appears in the Ultimate U. Spidey knocks him silly in a few panels.

What

The

F?

wow........no wonder I hate Bagley so much.......

Blam the designs on Bagley, blame Bendis for making him such a ***** :o

Agreed, I have never liked his look and it's really stupid for him to be defeated in only a few panels. Shocker was suppose to be a diffictult to beat, tough guy, not an easy to beat....guy. I don't even think you can call him a Villain, because Villains aren't easy to defeat.

Just another reason why Ult. Spidey blows.

One of the things that I dont like about USM is that Bendis so clearly has his favorite characters. I've never been a big fan of 616 Shocker, so I kind of enjoyed seeing the Ultimate Shocker get kicked around, but I'm also a Kraven fan and he's appeared...what? In two arcs, both of which he was shown as a joke. Meanwhile Ock has had several stories and Gobby has been made into a grunting monster. :whatever:

In Ultimate Spider-Man I there are two types of villains IMO.Your A villain which is the focus of the arc and who beats up and unmasked Spider-Man with some how Peter defeating said bad guy in the end. Then theres the B villain which is a throwaway bad guy used for cannon fodder and as a joke for Spidey to easily defeat in the first two pages of a story.

I remember Bendis saying that in a interview how he uses throwaway villains for Spider-man to quickly defeat so it wouldn't look like Peter was always getting his butt handed to him.

I like Ult Spider-man but I feel it missed the boat on many of Spidey's classic foes and rogues. When comparing Ultimates first 100 issues to Amazings 100,this is very much apparent. Both titles feature Ock,Goblin and Kingpin as major foes yet Lee,Ditko and Romita used other villains whether small or major ones in between. In Ultimate Ock,Goblin and Kingpin are the major ones with I guess Venom and the Carnage thing being a B list, with all others being jokes or throwaways with no real set up to return down the line.

This guy sums this up perfect -

I don't mind Ult GG and I kinda like Ult HG, just for his design.

but I hated the Ult Shocker look.

I never thought I'd say this...but Shocker's 616 costume isnt as bad as it could be. I miss the quilt.
