Another reason I love that green bastard. He causes wholesale destruction across NYC, traumatizing innocent civilians in the process, makes Peter run the gauntlet in terms of physical and emotional agony and its all in good fun. :gg: :bomb:
Indeed, he's just awesome!

We've been without pictures for too long.

Since you're in need of pictures of the Green One, I finally found those manips right here on SHH!

They were apparently made by Wilde.

See, those would have been much more intimidating, imo.

I agree completely. And while it was explained where he got the suit, I was always curious as to where he got the mask.

Granted, the original comic design wasnt an especially frightening look but as Spidey's greatest enemy (and thus one of the greatest villains in comicdom) shouldnt he have a certain presence about him? I never should have heard that people wanted a better villain for Spider-Man 2. There was nothing wrong with Doctor Octopus, but they should at least be on an equal footing in the audience's mind.

As for the mask...beats me where Norm found it. I assumed it was part of the costume. Sort of a psychological/intimidation aspect of OsCorps warfare ideas.

This isnt scary, but neither is the film concept.

Well, Goblins in and of themselves aren't scary, so much as mischievous pranksters. So, to be completely intimidating would be out of context for the name. While granted, he doesn't look all to malicious, I should remind you that Joker is a clown. I do think he should have a certain presence about him, though. I think Weird Al said it best: "And he's wearing that dumb Power Rangers mask/But he's scarier without it on." The mask did more to detract from the powerful performance than help it, I think.

Thats true, but we're getting into ultra geek territory here. :cwink: I guess I want him to have a more demonic look, without looking like a demon, if that makes sense.

I always thought the Joker was creepy as hell but I never liked clowns, so thats probably part of it. Have to agree with Al, too. I still think Willem Dafoe did the best he could with a weak script. I would have liked him to have Alfred Molina's subtle menace from Spidey 2. I thought Ock's creepy grin as he kidnaps Mary Jane was more menacing by far than the Goblin's entire screen time in the first film. The mirror scene still bugs me, but I did like the scene about attacking Spider-Man's heart.

I dont particularly care for the art but yes, the costume was fantastic. JR Jr really nailed it, for his part.

This may be my new favorite Goblin art.

The costume isn't suppose to be scary, its the man inside the costume that is the frightening part.

Neither film nor comic representation of the costume really isn't anything other just then a ways of hiding Norman's face and being one of his many (psychologically speaking) masks.

But that picture you posted, that is how i see Gobby, whenever the name Green Goblin comes up, i think that picture (comic book wise) is the style i shoot right towards. Its very classic, but sleek, has some mystery to it, but you also gain an idea of crazy. It works on all levels for me.

The copy from his first appearance read: "Does the Green Goblin look cute to you? Does he make you want to smile?"

Well the look at his first appearance, they obviously wanted to get word out quick that he was going to be a menace (no pun intended) for Spidey.

The costume obviously isn't some cute looking outfit to make you laugh, it is sorta creepy looking, down right scary when drawn by the right artist, but the always frightening main point was that ... Norman is out of his freakin mind crazy.

I know I'm whining but I still would like the costume to be a little more intimidating...although you cant go wrong with the original. As campy as it is, its a classic. It does feel slightly blasphemous to change it.

I get where you are coming from with the costume. Thats why i think you see so many "tweaks" to the look over the years, artists trying to maybe.... not advance the look, but give it something more. Some look good, but just always goes back to the original.

In some ways, you have to just think, they got it right in the begninng (like they did for Spidey) in terms of the costume looks and that is an impressive feet, when you think about the time that has gone by.

I gotta say, I am not a fan of the current design. It's just...too much. It is my least favorite of all the GG suits, including Phil Urich & House Of M.

What current design? Are you talking about the one pictured above in the FF thing? Or the very last Green Goblin we've seen, 'cause Norman hasn't been in costume for a while--or has he donned the guise recently? Or has someone else?

Let's see, the outfit started by, I think, controversial Ramos in Jenkins' story, then, IMO, refined in the Marvel Knights 12-parter (by Millar?), and I think used again in his triumphant return in Thunderbolts when he went bat**** crazy--that more heavily armored one with traces of frayed and stitched edges is a favorite of mine, besides the early pure classic (as well as Spectacular Animated's visual). IF that's the current design you're talking about, as I said, I don't have that opinion.
