This again. Nothing in the Goblin suit reminded me in any way of Power Rangers. And I really think we got the better deal on his design. I personally would never want to see any of his comic book incarnations (except maybe the "Gathering of the Five" look) on a real, live human being. Especially Normie's.
The comics suit doesn't work in real life, & as the above cover copy suggests, it was never meant to. Nobody could pull it off. It's a silly, Halloween-ish look. It's not fearsome or menacing. It works on paper & on paper alone. Not to mention the fact that Norman Osborn is twice Peter Parker's age, which makes the costume twice as silly. To ask them to put Dafoe in that would be like asking Ian MacKellan to wear this.

Mate...hold up. I didn't say anything BAD about the movie suit. I liked how it looked...I'd have prerfered a more sinister looking suit a la the concept. :whatever:

You didn't say anything bad about it. A lot of people have, though.

The only thing I really didnt like was the mask. The suit was fine, but the expressionless mask took away from the drama. The again, Gobby was written as less a cold blooded psychopath and more of a goofball.

Yeah--they totally wasted Dafoe

^^ What do you mean?

He wasnt used to his full potential. He could have been a great Goblin, but the script and costume wasnt good enough for an actor of his talent, imo. He could have portrayed Goblin at the same level that Alfred Molina portrayed Doctor Octopus. Even I have to admit that Molina's Ock out shined Dafoe's Green Goblin. Thats not at all a knock on Willem Dafoe, though.

Tell that to these people.

And I liked the mask. I'm glad they didn't go with the prosthetic that would've looked something like this.

The skeletons were still cheesy. Naturally you cant have blood and body parts flying around in a Spidey movie, but less cartoonish violence would have been better.

They're incinerated to the bone, the bones then disintegrate into dust, & that's cheesy to you?

What's so bad about Green Goblin incinerated people? I find that to be pretty violent.

There were some brilliant concept pics that would have been leaps and bounds over what we got in the film.

Seems to me they went with what was safe and easy to translate into CGI.

I agree with Demo, though - he was less the Norman we all know and love (Ie: Thunderbolts Goblin going ape**** crazy for one) and more goofy cliche villain.

He wasn't written like that in Thunderbolts yet when the movie came out in 02. That's like being pissed off they didn't have Morlun in the 67 Spider-Man cartoon. Besides, we all know of Raimis' love of the classic villains. He was portraid in the movie like he was originally written.

I meant as far as getting his crazy down as well as showcasing how deadly he was - both of these seen numerous times in the classic Goblin runs way back when.

Lets not forget...the Goblin originally wanted to be a crime boss so Raimi picked and choosed just how 'classic' he was going.

I'm glad they ditched the crimeboss angle. Keep in mind that that was long before he was unmasked. It's one thing for a nameless, faceless thug to be doing that (Joker), but when he's established as a big business tycoon it seems cheesy. I feel the same way about that as the suggestion that Kingpin be brought into the SPidey films. I think we can really do without the mob.

Very much agreed - the Mob was always something that just didnt seem to fit well in the Spideyverse.

With the exception of Gang War, of course...mostly due the mystery around the Hobgoblin at the time.

Thats the thing. I prefer post Clone Saga Norman over pre Clone Saga Norman any day of the week. I want him to embrace his evil side, not be cowering in fear of it. I know this is blasphemy to many people, but later writers wrote Gobby better than Stan did. Sam has the opposite opinion, and thats fine. I just disagree with it.

In the comics it doesn't actually show the glider going through Norman. Was that not gory enough for you in the film?

That I totally approved of. I just wish the rest of the film had that dark feeling.

But post-Clone Saga Norman had a lot of goofy plots, apart from his involvement in the whole clone thing. His buying the Bugle, the gathering of the Five, his attempts to brainwash Peter, Sins Past-the stories leading up to his "death" were far better.

If you say so.

Just my opinion. I think you & I are in agreement a good 80-85% of the time, so it doesn't bother me when we don't see eye-to-eye.

Speaking of which, I'm still pissed about that thread getting deleted. Are you aware that many of the skinny chicks being showcased on the "Hottest Women" thread are showing just as much skin?

Yeah, but I think there was some camel toe showing in your thread.

Still a damn shame.
