I rethought my remark....out loud....using text.

So sue me. ;)

You shut your mouth when you're talking to me!

Anyway, three things I keep thinking about that really irk the **** out of me. We never got Hal Jordan's most iconic looks

1) No full shot of him wearing his dad's jacket (one brief scene in his car, that's it)

2) Not one shot of him in the GL suit holding the battery (or even touching the damned thing)

3) No "charging the lens" pose. There are more comic covers with that pose than practically any other.

May as well throw in that the only "ring charge" we go was a love tap in front of Tom

I don't know if this has been brought up....but how was the flying? I felt that IM set a new benchmark for that when it came out.

Nothing Special, only nice ones are of him going through Oa with Tomar-Re but it was so short. I wish we had more of him flying through Earth.

The only two flying scenes I clearly remember were Oa (just looked like CG animation) and when he goes through the asteroid belt (couldn't really make out more than a green streak).

If you're expecting in your face, realistic flying maneuvers you won't get it

Notice how it didn't matter in BB...yet it ellicits groans in GL? It's only when the meal is bad that you start questioning the ingredients. :O
Well, on had better one liners than the other too.

"Didn't you get the memo?"

vs.

"Wait, doesn't the hero always get the girl?"

Which is a real shame since he can go into space; I would've like something akin to Superman Returns where he was hovering above the Earth. There was nothing that lingered to allow us to take in what was below him.

It's surprising too since Hal loves to fly, it thought for sure we would get a scene where he is just enjoying that he can fly

Morgan Freeman delivers any line with style no matter how mundane. The Line from Wanted was the only thing I really enjoyed from that movie.

I'm still waiting for SOMEONE to recreate the flying scenes Metro Man does in Megamind for a live-action superhero film. Best flying scenes I've seen since IM, and perfectly captivating

What's so funny? The cinematography in GL was absolutely amazing. Much better than Batman Begins, and that won back in '05.

No it didn't. Pfister didn't win an Oscar until this year, for Inception. Memoirs of a Geisha won for 05.

And I'd bet money green Lantern won't even be getting a cinematography nod.

If I wanna hear you talk, I'll shove my arm up your ass and work your mouth like a puppet!

^I bet if you asked SLJ and gave him a badass role he would jump to do it, still have time to join Dwayne Johnson before the next movie starts shooting.

really? that's a shame...I figured they'd at least go for broke with that.

You would think so I mean the most recent superhero movies that have heroes that can fly, they always show at least one scene where they show how cool it is. I mean they should've just done the Superman thing and have Hal take Carol flying around the city, perfect point in the movie to do that.

And one-up SR by lighting it so we could actually see it. :oldrazz:

Hal would've been a night light himself; could've been a cool shot with him flying over a body of water and it reflects off of it.

I didn't mind the lighting used in SR, I actually kind of liked the muted tones. But I agree that flying scene was kind of dark. I wished Singer would have used a suit that was deep red and blue, similar to in the justice league cartoon. His pastel suit made it really difficult to spot him sometimes.

Hoping Snyder gives us a suit similar to the JL cartoon.

I thought the whole movie just had too soft and muddled a look. I'm sure they shot it bright/sharp enough to look a number of ways, but just timed it in color-correction to be....blech...

You haven't seen First Class?

Banshee's flying scenes were top notch.

After rewatching ANIMATED features like First Flight and New Frontier in terms of how they handled Jordan's character and overall, the film itself, the fact that this GL film turned out the way it did just further stings for me right now.lol

Jeez, if it were up to me, I definitely would have made it a space adventure with Hal being allowed to do some intergalactic patrolling and investigating of various worlds. Sinestro should have been the villain for this film, and most of it should have taken in outer space as well.

Not to mention, the very idea of one of Hal's emotional issues being the same as it was at the beginning of New frontier, where he had to kill an enemy troop in order to protect himself, would have been a great to thing to work off from for his character instead of what they did, let alone the execution of it, in our current film.

Interestingly enough, the cinematographer for Memoirs of a Geisha had the same job on Green Lantern.

Flying was great, imo. Sinestro descent was awesome, so was his flight with Tomar-re. There was also a shot of him flying inside the Air Ferris compound that looked really good. Also, his take-offs were better than anything SR ever attempted.

Some of the Banshee flying was terrible though, especially in the fight scene in the ship. Some shots there were beyond awful. It looked like toys flying in the air. However, the one where he learns to fly and flies out of the Jet were great.

Here's hoping that Man of Steel sets a new bar for superhero flying.

Part of me thinks that it'll be somewhat very difficult, if not very hard for this film to make the amount of money that SR did at the BO, and considering that SR was better received by critics (76% at RT compared to the 26% that GL got), along with possibly having made more money and still not having gotten a sequel but a reboot, it would be a very WTF thing for me if GL got a sequel.

New Frontier did Hal's emotional issues well. We saw how they affected him in war and we saw him opening up and talking about them to Carol.

First Flight did a lot of basic things well. Sure, it skipped over the Earth part and Carol etc. but we saw Sinestro and the other main Lanterns come to Earth and it involved them more. Then we are properly introduced to the Guardians. Then we are given an explanation of the Central Power Battery and get to see what it does. Very basic things that set up the GL world.

Even a little moment in the live action movie where we see Hal and Sinestro patrolling another world, seeing how Sinestro behaves, would've been nice . And something like that bar scene at Labella's wouldn't have to have been completely CGI either.

Agreed; and in regards to New Frontier, if that emotional problem was translated into the film's one, where Hal was traumatized by the event of him having to take someone's life during the course of his duty, it would have mirrored well with Sinestro's damaged mentality (as a result of his long terms service for the core and exposure to the grim side of life), which would have climaxed into one hell of a emotionally charged final battle between them both.

Yeah; I mean in regards to this film, if it weren't for my basic knowledge for GL, I wouldn't really have understood as to what the GL really do. To say that the film failed to properly portray as to what the duties of a GL entails is a understatement for me.
