okay that was by far the best trailer yet

training scenes were glorious

I don't know about you, but when seeing that scene of the trailer of Hal and Sinestro about to swordfight, it made me think of what Mark Strong said in a year old interview about Errol Flynn and David Niven.

http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/04/07/mark-strong-sinestro-green-lantern/

“That widow’s peak and thin mustache was for some reason originally based on David Niven, and Hal Jordan was based on Errol Flynn,” said Strong. “In the ‘30s and ‘40s, they shared an apartment together in Hollywood when they were making movies and they were great friends. Obviously at the time, whoever was doing the original comics must have looked at them as guys doing very well in the film industry, and based those characters on them. So I would like to do justice to the Sinestro that was conceived for the comic books.”

Hal Jordan was based on Paul Newman, though.

That was fantastic! Well worth the wait... Some highlights:

1. Sinestro Corps Symbol (Seriously, how cool and outta the blue was that?)

2. "How Human" (That line is Sinestro as ****!)

3. Kilowog speaks!

4. Guardians!

5. That sun shot.

Really, my only real gripes with this so far are tiny little pedantic ones, things like his slightly cheap looking Halloween contact lens-style eyes and the fact that the constructs arent entirely green (The bullets from the gatling gun, the fire from the flamethrower) but I'm sure that's just going to take a bitta getting used to.

WOW! Damn was that sweet. Man, I can't wait for this movie! I hope they show this when I got to see Thor tomorrow night. Anyone know if this trailer will be available with the 3D showings?

The fire makes sense if Hal is only using the ring's energy to accelerate the molecules in air in order to create true fire.

The constructs troubled me too. Someone explained to me that the bullets fired were constructs but the muzzle flash is like from real guns for whatever reason. The fire from the flame thrower probably comes from heating the air. I dunno. I guess they did that because a green flame wouldnt look that good and would get lost in all the green and the audience wouldnt know what they were seeing.

Meh i dont really care all that much about such small details as long as its cool. Its time we stop being pedantic and analytical and enjoy some comic book movies. This Nolan-i must know how everything works mentality needs to go.

Yeah, and remember... the "constructs must always be green or yellow" rule doesn't always hold true, even in the comics. Hal thought he killed Sinestro before he became Parallax, but (thanks to a convenient retcon) we found out that wasn't actually Sinestro, but a construct.

Awesome trailer. Can't wait to see this.

Damn, I love Blake Lively.

I know. That part in Strong's interview just came to mind because of that scene in the trailer.

In the original comics, Hal could create constructs of other colors, too.

Then again, Hal used to be able to do anything with his ring during the Silver Age. By example: Absorbing and storaging the powers of the entire Justice League of America inside his ring.

If he creates a gatling gun based on the physics of an actual gatling gun, the muzzle should produce a fiery burst as construct bullets exit.

Looking at the shot of him creating the flame thrower, if finally hits me, that same feeling I used to get when reading the books. What a cool power to literally manifest objects from energy and the imagination.

I still think they should have gone with the tron approach to some of the visual design, and I also think the cgi won't be done until it all looks alike abin sur's glove in that shot where he hands the ring over

as far as the fire question:
if cave men can create combustion from rubbing two wooden sticks together I'm srue the energy involved in a gun construct could achieve the same.

and I also think the cgi won't be done until it all looks alike abin sur's glove in that shot where he hands the ring over
Don't bet on it. Sony Imagework's CGI is always hit and miss.

I thought I might be the only one feeling this way. I very much appreciate and enjoy what Nolan has done with Batman but I'm ready for these movies to still be serious but not ultra-realistic like his series has become. Green Lantern brings that serious tone but looks to make it adventurous, fun and so epic beyond what we've seen for comic films yet. There are things I can easily nitpick at but they are minor complaints. This is Green Lantern brought to life and so far it looks very faithful to the source. I want to enjoy this without getting caught up in the little differences.

Just me pretending ILM was on this...what I meant to say was the cg won't be done for me till it looks like the poster.

Nolans real take on batman is good for some aspects but absolutely kills it in others.

We get it already, you're a fan of ILM and not a fan of Sony. Must you keep beating the horse? He died long ago.

:whatever:

I've never specified a preference for ILM over Sony, although ILM does much better work than Sony. So does Weta. This isn't inane bipartisanship. I simply do not like Sony Imagework's work, and judging by the complaints that the effects are recieving, neither does a lot of other people.

There have been occasions where I do like what Sony Imageworks has done, Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen was great. Dr. Octopus in Spider-Man 2 is another example.

I also don't care for Digital Domain's work.

Couldnt they get ILM?

Wasn't ILM working on Transformers 3 and Harry Potter?

Maybe they can get them for the sequel.

R&H is the my least fave
but if sony did spiderman, this may have a shot

ILM is busy this summer

Cowboys and Aliens(not sure why)
Transformers (taken up all their ram)
Pirates (my guess cause they did all the others)
Probably the other marvel movies(they have a good relationship with paramount it seems)
Harry potter?

what's weta doing?

Superman best be cranking up the spectacle after Transformers, GL and Thor. Like others have said, it would be glorious to see Supes in Hal's place, recharging right in front of the sun.
