I can't believe that there are Green Lantern fans who were expecting the movie to be 100% accurate. They should know better that all comic book movies aren't going to be 100% accurate, it's 2011 people.

:o

This is Bryan Singer's first X-Men film, no more, no less. An somewhat successful introductory film that should've been more. Through and through, both films are exactly the same....

Critics and moviegoers alike didn't pan the first X-Men film. Not the same equivalent no matter how you cut it.

Weren't you just saying "it's just an opinion"?

You can't have it both ways.

As much as I disliked Singer's first X-Men movie, it is not comparable to Green Lantern except for the fact they were used to introduce audiences to the character(s). Tonally, pacing and originality they are much much different.

Don't compare Green Lantern and the first X-Men film. Don't do that!

I think Singer's first X-Men film is very overrated. It's a decent movie, but VERY flawed and silly when you actually examine it.

True, it is. Personally I never cared for it. But since it was the first of it's kind in a time when superhero films were looked at as silly and box office gambles, it served it purpose.

I get tired of people saying it's a piece of ****. A piece of **** is Jonah Hex, both Fantastic Four flicks, Daredevil, both Punishers, Blade Trinity, Losers, Batman & Robin, Catwoman, the 1990 Captain America film, Ghost Rider, Iron Man 2 (when you really break that film down) and to a lesser extent Batman Forever.

Singer's X-men was a genuinely good film for both comic fans and non-fans alike. It had good pacing, character dynamics, and a relevant story, and more importantly, its shortcomings didn't take you out of the experience while watching it. Can the same be said for GL?

I can't see GL being as bad as Catwoman...you'd have to actually try to be that bad on purpose these days. But somewhere between, say, Fantastic Four and Xmen...with pacing and script issues leaning it more towards the former, perhaps?

That's an insult to X-Men to be compared to the stinking turd that Green Lantern is. Green Lantern is right down there with all those other terrible comic book movies you named. Don't try to boost Green Lantern by comparing it to X-Men!

Eff X-Men, it's one of the most boringest comic book movies that I have ever seen.

I place Green Lantern movie at par with The Incredible Hulk, which was entertaining but had some pacing and script issues.

Whoever is saying that GL movie is like Catwoman, Elektra, GI Joe, Ghost Rider is just trying to be a Troll, Ignore such posters.

I really don't understand this mentality. A review is nothing more than opinion, are there standards to opinions? And why do so many people keep hinting at a critic conspiracy? Why can't people just not like the movie and give it a bad review? That seems to make a whole lot more sense.

Wasn't hinting at a conspiracy, sorry if it came off that way. I don't believe in critic conspiracies (well, every once in a while I think Pixar might be paying people off, lol). I just think that some people, critics and fans, had their minds made up about this movie before they even saw it. Not everyone, mind you... I know for a fact that plenty of people here who hated it were expecting to like it. But there were also those people who damned the movie the moment they heard the words "I know, right."

True, but also you have to judge it on when it came out. This was the first superhero flick post Batman and Robin, and it took the source material seirously and had some very good performances from Patrick Steward and Ian McKellum, and also gave us Hugh Jackman.

You're right though looking back it doesn't hold up considering how far the bar has been raised with modern superhero flicks.

Okay, no. Green Lantern is a ton worse than Batman Forever and Xmen 1. And seriously? Iron Man 2? That should never be on a list of bad comic movies. Yeah it was worse than the first one but still good.

And to S.A.A.D., how is people complaining about the movie "brainwashing"?

How would it be any different than you praising the movie?

It's alright that people like this movie, but the majority don't. Just deal with it.

No the movie is a POS. It wouldn't have got the ratings it did, and the tepid box office response if it wasn't.

You can certainly have your opinion, it's just a minority opinion.

It took it seriously to a point. The main plot of the movie was still Magneto trying to turn people into mutants, which turns out making them into puddles of water. It's a silly plot. Makes me think of Grodd turning the world into apes, which may work for something a bit more tongue and cheek like the Flash, but in a more serious comic like X-Men...way too silly. Magneto himself was portrayed well, but his overall plan was stupid. That, and it had some horrendous dialogue. Even when it came out, I was critical of it.

Nobody here is claiming that Green Lantern is the best Comic book Movie ever made, many posters who like the movie acknowledge that it has many flaws, but to say that this movie was worse than the worst movies out there (below Catwoman, Ghostrider, Elektra, Batman and Robin, GI Joe, Transformers 2) is a troll.

Glad to know my difference of opinion puts in the troll bin. Thanks, I didn't know that about myself. I'll be sure to spread the word to the other 75% of the people who gave it a negative review.

Unfortunately, that's true as well. It was WB marketing's fault for releasing a sub-par trailer (unfinished effects, really?) and then going ape **** when ppl didn't like it

Having an opinion of how bad the movie is is NOT trollish behavior. What is trollish behavior is insulting other posters and pushing your opinion on them. Some people thought it was B&R bad, and that is their right.

Nobody should be acting high and mighty about their love/hate of this movie. It's an interpretive artform. People will either love it, hate it, think it is okay, not like it overall, etc. Having that opinion is not being a troll. How you go about discussing your opinion is.

If you can't take differing opinions, I am sorry. That is on you. This is a site for people to be able to share their thoughts in a respectful manner. Often, these will conflict with your views.

I think your opinion on this matter is childish and irresponsible....but that's just my opinion.

:oldrazz::awesome: heh..... ;)

Thing is...ironically, from the sounds of it, the first trailer was the most 'accurate' one that came out, in terms of how the actual movie was. :O

I would put Green lantern on par with Ghost Rider for its awkwardness and Fantastic Four in it's tone and lack of scope.

but John Stewart is black. hollywood will not give a black character hes own franchise. they are stupid

I was actually referring to the new animated series I just saw the trailer for.
a bunch of kids (who haven't seen the new movie) will be like ok he's white now?

Hal Jordan ftw.

Anyways I'm seeing the film later today but speaking honestly, If it wasn't for a pre-arranged viewing I planned, at this point in time the reviews have turned me off.
I think critics do have a factor but mainly at this stage in the game.

Green Lantern was awkward?

That is the second time that I have heard that, the first time I heard it was when my brother said that it looked weird. I'm surprised how interested my brother was in the GL movie considering the fact that he's not much of a comic booky fan as he use to be along time ago, he asked me twice if I had seen the movie yet and asked me what I thought about it.

Yeah, I was one of the ones that didn't mind the first trailer, but even I had to admit that it wasn't as good as it could have been, particularly on the effects side. They would have done better to just show a couple quick finished shots of the costume, if anything.... or maybe just play up the more normal (but serious elements) like him putting on the ring and saying the oath. Give it more of a teaser feel, you know?

That last shot of him in the unfinished mask was horrrrrendous. It look like he had green slime on his face.

There's so much I'd love to say about how this movie didn't work, and could have been a lot better, but I honestly don't feel like putting the effort to back up my opinion of this movie because fanboys will instantly shoot it down, having a irrelevant rebuttal. It's rather sad. We all need to just respect each other's opinion and not act as if one is better than the others.
