Yes that's exactly what it is. [BLACKOUT]Liverpool score a goal on the TV while Tony is talking to "The Mandarin" and he does the little chant.[/BLACKOUT]

Hunter how does
tony deal with mandarin? When the reveal is made he's an actor as he confronts him. Just curious what happens, police are informed or what.

Re the post-credits scene:
[BLACKOUT]
Do we think that this appearance counts as part of Ruffalo's rumoured six-picture deal?

Absolutely not.

These little cameos almost never count.

Probably. RDJ's cameo in TIH counted towards his 5 picture deal.

Entertaining film. Stark has really evolved as a character since the first movie and given how he seemed to take the events of the avengers movie in his stride for that particular adventure, it was interesting to see just how full of anxiety he was. Great acting from everyone, the scenes with the kid were a nice touch and the armours...damn there were a lot of armours. Guy Pierce was great as a villain, brought a real sense of menace, Cheadke as Rhodey was great also and overall, I just love how the movie is able to deliver with Tony out if the suit for the majority if the film; why? Because Tony Stark is Iron Man.
The film did a great job in showing who exactly Tony was and who he is today.

8/10

Just got back from seeing it...I think it was the best of the 3, and I enjoyed it a lot. I'm not an Iron Man fangirl, but I found it very enjoyable and explored some interesting territory. 8/10 for me. Not quite the Avengers, but probably the Marvel film that comes the closest to it when it comes to quality.

MiniEvilClareToo thought it was better than the Avengers, so yay?

Quite easily the best solo MCU movie for me. Marvel Studios finally took some risks. And it really payed off! Funny, fun, clever and exciting – that's Iron Man 3.

4/5 – or 8/10 if you will.

I'm giving the film a solid 8.

- Downey was fantastic and good to see him get a more serious.
- Glad to see Cheadle get more screen and action time, really like his take on Rhodey and hope to see more of him.
- Still not into movie Pepper nor Paltrow, just space out while she is on screen killing the scene with her cold boring personality.
- Kingsley is amazing and loved what he did/
- The whole "twist" works well in the aspect of the film, but as a reader it did leave a slight bad taste in my mouth.
- The comedy moments work really well, and break up the tension and serious moments.
- The relationship with Tony and the kid is fantastic.
- The action was good, yet still brief at times.
- The final battle is good and not as lackluster and over-too-soon like the past IronMan films.

Not quite sure with will happen next for Tony as this seems to wrap up his arc with many of his villains already done with.

Would have like to see more enthesis on Extremis and what Tony might do with it, like development of bleeding edge armor, unless they are saving that.

Seeing all the suits was amazing, but was totally underused. From the released pictures and clips I was hoping for more, but they didn't last all that long, so it felt like kind of fan service to show some and waste good armour.

I've read people saying the action is on par with Avengers .. its not, not at all. Sure it is good action, great for an IronMan film, but not close to the New York fly around scenes in Avengers.

Still not the best IronMan film for me, the first is still the best (my second Marvel film after Avengers) leaps and bounds above IronMan2. Don't bother seeing it in 3D as it is barely noticeable, only in the "monkey in a barrel" scene.

Iron Man 3 - thoughts & rambles

Robert Downey Junior dons the mask of Iron Man in the 3rd installment of his superhero series, which is a sequel to both his Iron Man movies and Marvel’s the Avengers. It’s a character focused story about who Tony Stark is and how his life has become larger than life, while alongside moving forward the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mechanical engineered weaponry clashes with DNA-based bio-weaponry.

Shane Black takes over Jon Favreau as director with Drew Pierce as his co-writer; they both seem to have a lot of creative energy with introducing concepts like the Mandarin, the Extremis and Advanced Idea Mechanics. The main appeal of the movie remains to be what’s important; The characters, the interaction between Tony Stark and his life, from his girlfriend Pepper Pots to Happy Hogan to James Rhodey, the dialogue is fine and there are tons of pop culture jokes, but somehow somewhere that energy of creativity got lost into this big mess which makes the movie have an identity crisis: Is it an incredibly childish kids family movie or an entertaining action comedy thriller?

There are scenes of serious thought, only to be completely made fun of like it was an parody of itself, this whole movie feels like it was a 90s kid’s movie that makes a parody out of Iron Man, or perhaps this Is the mass commercialism of Iron Man? It’s just weird seeing characters gaining random super powers (that include the instant knowledge of Kung Fu?), Tony Stark hanging out with a little kid, becoming Mac Gyver (instead of just getting his back-up armors) and the movie happen during Christmas!

While the movie is not a spark of entertainment that Iron Man or the Avengers, it still gives show cases solid performances from the actors. Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) alongside Eric Savin (James Badge Dale) bring the villains to live with their menacing facial play, albeit their motivations for the entire movie is questionable and weak, the Ben Kingsley theatrics we’re convincing but they are simply just sad I’m afraid. I would simply recommend fans of the series to just re-watch Iron Man again, but this movie can become a cult hit for its utter weirdness.

Consensus has been put up at RT:

Rotten Tomato Consensus said:
With the help of its charismatic lead, some impressive action sequences, and even a few surprises, Iron Man 3 is a witty, entertaining adventure and possibly one of Marvel's best yet

The rating currently stands at 92% on 53 reviews of 49 positive, 4 negative.

I saw it yesterday. Shane Black has done it again!
G E N I U S filmmaking! This takes the cake as Marvel Studios' best film yet, together with Favreau's original Iron Man.
The Avengers doesn't even come close to this.

Saw the movie yesterday at a midnight showing. I stayed away from all spoilers, just watched the trailers, and that was it. I wanted to be surprised by it, and oh boy, i was in for some big ones.
This really feels like half an Iron Man movie/ half a pure Shane Black movie, like KKBB.
And that's a good thing this time.

Everyone was at top of their game here.

RDJ is amazing as always. He gives depth to the character once more, showing how Tony is really just a man in an armor, and the consequences of facing things beyond his comprehension during Avengers.
Don Cheadle finally feels right in his role of James Rhodes, and his friendship with Tony feels real.
Paltrow does enough for the role to feel authentic in the movie, and has some pretty cool moments.
Rebecca Hall's Hansen is the only charcter I feel was underused, and could have been a lot better.

Ben Kigsley and Guy Pearce deserve an special mention. They're both outstanding in they're roles.

I'm a fan of the comics, but I haven't read everything there is about Iron Man or the mandarin. The Mandarin was the first really menacing presence in the Marvel cinematic universe. I actually felt scared during his videos and speeches.
I liked the twist, but I definately wanted to see this take on the Mandarin go against Tony, it was just aperfect villain for him. I know most fans won't like it, but I embrace it in the context of the film.

It's the first time for me that an Iron Man movie feels complete. It felt like it developed the main character, had a memorable villain that was actually a threat for him,and it felt that it earned the ending.

I wonder how they will continue the story from here. Looking forward to see more Tony Stark in Avengers 2.

Definately the 2nd best movie from the Marvel universe, and a solid 9/10 for me.
Not a perfect movie, but is so well made and so entertaining that it's flaws (or most of them) feel irrelevant in the end.

I put down an 8. Even though it's hard to decide on a number with a movie this fresh in my mind. It was definitely a blast.

I was a bit disappointed in how the Mandarin was handled, and the middle part
with Tony and the kid
felt a bit malplaced, but on the other hand the last half hour or so was pretty damn fantastic.
It really felt like Shane Black knows action. Even though
none of the extremis bad guys in the finale could fly
the sequence still felt plenty dynamic.

I also thought they managed to make Rhodes a part of the story without having to compromise on Tony as the main character/hero.

When Tony blows up that chick in the reastaurant, that's a fridge/freezer he's shielding himself with right? I thought it might have been a nod at Indy 4.

A quick "re-review"

Watched it again and I still think the film is a work of genius in how it's handled. Tony Starks character arc was excellently written and one of the most thematically tight superhero films since the dark knight trilogy and raimi's second spider-man film. It really is the smartest MCU film to date and in my honest opinion the best, it really isn't as safely palatable as the Avengers or even Iron Man 1, and a lot of the tonal shifts as well as the twist can be really challenging especially to those who have pretty much gotten comfortable to a certain style of filmmaking thanks to the relatively safe phase 1 movies, but Feige himself has said that he wanted phase 2 films to be more character pieces than anything and it really shows with IM3, but the real star in my eyes is Shane Black...he not only fufils Feige's wishes in crafted an awesome character study for Tony but manages to imbue the film with his very distinctive style and motifs. It feels like a shane black film first an Iron Man film second which gives it a very surreal but more self contained tone.

I'll keep with the same score of 9.5. Most of the things i didn't like are pretty much nitpicking but ill put them in spoiler quotes for anyone who is reading this.

couple of things i did not like about this film

1) rebecca hall as Maya Hansen, I like her a lot as an actress but she is wasted in this role, she just brings nothing to the table and provides the film with some pretty useless scenes.

2) Pepper. She has a tougher role to get through this time because the will they/won't they tension from the first two films is gone and so she plays a pretty boring damsel in distress, she does however get two excellent scenes in this film though.

3) rescue/extremis pepper, it just happened out of nowhere and gives quite possibly the worse send off for a great villain since Bane got owned by Catwoman on a bike. The scene bordered a little on fanservice, just to hint at rescue, but it didn't really do much for the story so it was a little over indulgent.

4) Rhodes as Iron Patriot, Cheadle is perfect as rhodes and gives one of the most badass performances in the film kicking ass and going all rambo with his gun...but all of this is when he is out of the suit, as patriot he's in a couple of meaningless scenes in the middle of the film and he doesn't even get to be part of the final fight.

5) The mandarin, as much as i love the twist and i love ben kingsleys performance and I love Aldrich as the mandarin theres no getting around that being denied a potentially world beating preformance of Kingsley as the arch nemesis felt somewhat deflating, it's a performance I've been waiting for and i could care less about the portrayal of mandarin, but I would have really liked to see more of his actual version of mandarin.

But yeah other than that it's pretty much the film to beat this summer.

I think this is probably my favorite Iron Man movie. I expected not to like it especially I didn't like the first few minutes, I was bored. But the movie really picked up starting at the attack in Tony's house. That scene was just amazing!
I really liked that Tony was in the run, he lost most of his stuff
and thats the aspect of the movie that I really liked. Then the villains that they had for the movie, I liked that finally they are not wearing robot suits, it was so refreshing to watch and the villains did give him a hard time to beat them especially the main villain
, he destroyed a couple of Tony's armor suits.
The Mandarin twist was definitely disappointing, like I expected more but story-wise, it didn't really affect the movie. The airplane scene was amazing! I liked how Iron Man saved all those people. I liked the little kid that helped Tony, he's my favorite new character in this movie. The major criticisms that I have for this movie is there were a lot of jokes, like for almost every scene, there was a punch line and I felt like most of them were unnecessary and I didn't really like the role of Rebecca Hall. But over-all, it was a really good movie and I really liked the last few scenes.
It felt like a good ending to Tony Stark as Iron Man.

9/10

@jmc - Wow that's cool - thanks. I like the sound of that!

Agreed, this feels like a Shane Black movie first. I thought it felt kinda like KKBB in tone.
And that is a really good thing for this one. Keeps things fresh and interesting.

Saw the movie for a 2nd time and enjoyed it more this time around. Knowing what the twist was for the Mandarin helped this viewing a lot as I was braced for it.
