Official Monk Thread

Now that we have had alot of time to adjust and get used to Natalie, does anybody miss Sharona?

I don't. She was good and all, but Natalie has grown on me and is really great. I think she and Monk have molded really well together.

Season 2 is definately a great jump in point for new viewers of the show, and I would rent them at your local video store, and plan a weekend. Sometimes USA runs Monk marathons, so check your local listings as well :)

Sorry, but I still don't like her.

Something about the way she talks annoys the hell out of me. :o

Tonight's episode was good. I really feel as though they wrapped it up too fast though. I would've liked to see that arrogant prick get arrested and more with Monk realizing who he is, his 'wife' finding out who he is, and the sheriff finding out who he is. I actually would've liked to see him go to that waitresses grave and bring her the 7 dollars, that could've been a nice scene.

I'm really looking forward to Mr.Monk and the Astronaut. It was originally supposed to be the season premiere but got bumped back for some reason. It is about Monk suspecting an astronaut of a murder that occured while he was in space. It seems to follow the classic pre-Natalie format (Season 1,2, and half of 3)...where we know who did it, but the question is how they did it. Those tend to be the best episodes. Mr.Monk Goes Back To School, Mr. Monk and the Game Show, and Mr.Monk and the Sleeping Suspect are among the best of the series and they all follow that format. They are playing that episode in 3 weeks and I am really looking forward to it.

That would have been great to see Monk bring her the $7 dollars to the grave, and I felt the episode was wrapped up a bit too early as well, I wouldn't have minded if it was a two parter. The funnest part of the show was when Monk left the truck because of one bee, to be outside with thousands, and when asked about it he said because there was a bee in the truck.

This episode sounds really cool, Mr Monk goes to space, can't wait. I don't get why Monk is going away for three weeks, it just came back from Hiatus UGH! I needs me my MONK!

Anybody watch Monk last night? It was another solid episode. I think the best part was when Monk was making his speech during career day at Julie's school and the kids kept pointing there laser pointers at him and he was flipping out, that was great, and his back and forth with what his fears where with his doctor, Glaciers, no rodeo's Glaciers...

Funny, funny stuff!

Another solid episode of MONK this past Friday. It guest starred Jeremy Pivens, he played a Dentist and was great in the role. This episode featured more of Randy and The Captains relationship and had the classic Monk stuff, overall 4/5 stars

Next week is the season finale

I really liked this past episode. It reminded me of '12 Angry Men' (1 juror voting against majority and convincing everyone he's right). It was also suspenseful as to how the Columbian guy was gonna escape.

Great show. I always liked it.

Here are some photos of the show:

Last season was kinda dissapointing, IMO. Hopefully it gets back to greatness.

Have you seen the commercial they are playing for the new season, with Monk dreaming of a perfect world? I laugh every time I see it

Same here. :woot:

I have OCD, not as bad as our friend Adrian, but it helped me a lot to watch this show. He is kind of a weird role model for me.

The fact it is a great show is a bonus. I love the writing and the acting. Whom do you like better as his nurse?

I honestly think it has been a disappointment since Natalie came on the show. It seems at that point 2 things happened that hurt the show.

1) The show switched formats from How-Done-It/Occassional Who-Done-It to we already know who did what and how and it is just a matter of watching Monk catch them. It was much better when there was an aspect of mystery involved.

2) Following Natalie's apperance on the show it seemsRandy, Monk, and to a lesser extent Stottlemeyer became characitures of themselves. Randy is constantly portrayed as a bumbling idiot (which during the shows earlier seasons he clearly wasn't. Heck, if anything he was almost an antagonist of Monk). Monk's phobias are overshadowing the character, something that was never really done with Sharona around. Especially with less focus on the mystery this has been a major problem. Stottlemeyer has reverted to more of the stupid, stereotyped tough guy cop.

These have been major problems with the show in my eyes for the past 2 years. Its still better than most garbage on TV, but it is slowly but surely jumping the shark.

Sharona. For one thing, she actually had a personality where as Natalie is more of just a cardboard cut out. Second, the character seemed to care for Monk more. Natalie is his assistant, nothing less, nothing more. Sharona was Monk's family more or less. Third, Natalie is kind of mean. She makes fun of Monk and his phobias. Sharona would tease him from time to time, but again that is a statement on the different types of relationship the two women had with him. Sharona was also used from time to time to make the viewer sympathize with Monk. (i.e. The first episode, when the candidate's wife makes fun of his quirks, Sharona puts her in her place). That was helpful towards seeing Monk as a person and not really just a charicature who is driven by only his phobias (I mentioned that in the post above).

Do you think that all the star power this season will hurt or help the show? I am not really sure yet, but sometimes less star power makes for better shows, but I guess we will all find out Friday!

Hmm, I'll have to say that Sharona just got on my nerves after a while...Natalie started out pretty plain, but now she makes a great connection to Monk.

Friday's episode was great! I loved it when Monk couldn't concentrate on what he was doing for a case because the toilet seat was up in the bathroom!

Last week's episode with Sean Astin was really good. Monk was totally in his element when he was being The Butler! I thought that the star power would hurt the show, but so far the first two episodes have been excellent!

Sean Astin was a miscast. He played a creep well, but I don't see him as a creep.

I dunno about your #2, but I definately agree here. An occasional ep like that is fine, but I don't want every episode to start with a shot of the killer's face. :down

Another good ep, IMO.
