Days of Future Past Official Rate and Review DAYS OF FUTURE PAST - Part 1

Days of Future Past makes little to no sense. Why is Professor X still alive in the original future timeline? Why does Mystique’s DNA give the sentinels powers beyond shapeshifting? Why doesn’t Kitty with her convenient new power simply send Wolverine back to assassinate Trask before he was in the spotlight? Why can she only send the uber-cool Wolverine back that far, but not Prof X, only to have Charles do it anyway when he needs to talk to himself in the future? Why doesn’t Professor X use Magneto’s powers to recover Wolverine from the ocean? Etc. etc. Simply too much nonsensical circumstances bent to fit the script’s contrived purposes.

However, there were some visually striking set pieces, which is more than I can say about the other bland X entries.

Remind me not to move into your building, lol. :p

Yeah, I think it's time to move....

I'm still evacuated! It's now an "ongoing police investigation". I'm staying at my folks' house now.

At least I got to see the movie again.

You obviously weren't paying much attention. Some of those complaints you have are explained and the others aren't plot holes really.

Or perhaps too many nonsensical questions bent to fit your apparent preconceived notion.

1. After the credits scenes of X3 and The Wolverine show he is alive.

2. The uniqueness of Mystique’s mutation is what allows for these abilities. X-Men: First Class set the stage for this with Hank talking about the tremendous potential of her DNA, for which he accidentally turned himself into Beast. The serum derived from this in Days of Future Past he is able to use for the one he takes and the professor takes.

Mystique is able to form inanimate objects from her own body, things like clothes, glasses, and hats, and even Wolverine’s claws in X1. But as scene in X1, she cannot duplicate these things exactly, which is why Wolverine is able to cut through her claws. So X1 shows that she can already mimic the physical abilities of mutants, but cannot duplicate it exactly. Unlocking her DNA, they were able to use that as the key to the sentinels’ ability to adapt, making it more focused so it could have the actual physical traits of other physical mutant abilities.

3. Assassinating Trask is one of the big parts of what causes the future, as explained in the movie.

4. They explain that in the movie, Wolverine is the only one who can survive a trip back that far because of his healing properties.

5. Magneto's powers only extend so far, Wolverine was thrown far away and into the Potomac River (not the Ocean). And who is to say that Professor X knew where he was?

Got back from seeing this awhile ago. Some thoughts...

I loved all the nods and flashbacks to the previous X-Men movies. This truly felt like a sendoff to the original trilogy and it's actors/characters, and a passing of the torch from them to the new cast and continuity of these movies going forward. They seemed to close the door on the original movies with that ending.

I thought it was interesting that they essentially turned Kitty Pryde into Rachel Summers for the purposes of this film. I am still not sure how she can phase someone's CONSCIOUSNESS back and fourth through time, given that kind of power is physic in nature. But whatever. Ellen Page is fantastic so I'm glad they gave her a big role.

That Quicksilver cameo was fantastic. Very well done. They took a character whose look/costume got a lot of **** after it's reveal, and natural resistance from the Marvel Studios ultra-loyalists, and turned that all around. I can't wait to see his expanded role in Apocalypse.

The Dark Future was well done, and felt very faithful to the comics. Destroyed cities, mutants and humans herded into camps with the M tattooed on their faces... grey haired Wolverine. :D I loved all of it. It would've been great if we could've gotten more time in that world but I guess it would've slowed the movie down.

The Sentinels worked really great on film (like Quicksilver, the still photos of them don't do them justice). I hope this isn't the last time we see an X-Men movie with Sentinels in it. I hope we eventually get Mastermold and stuff like that.

It's sad Marvel and Fox don't have a good business relationship right now because I would've loved to have seen some prequel comics covering the ten year gaps of the two timelines (this film and First Class, as well as this film and X3/The Wolverine).

I'm glad Singer got to direct this film, and I hope the recent scandals don't prevent him from doing Apocalypse. Fox has really turned this franchise around after X3 and Origins and Tom Rothman ruined it.

I find it to be quite the plot convenience that Kitty had those kind of powers, but I understand the mentality behind making that creative decision:

1. It was a way to incorporate one of the lead characters from Days of Future Past into the movie. I'm glad we got to see more of Shadowcat in this movie, as she's become a character that I've grown to like more and more as I've gotten older. And I'm all for seeing more of Ellen Page as Kitty; great casting.

2. I guess the mentality was that if Kitty Pryde is able to "phase" through walls and objects, then she can "phase" through time as well? She's just a phaser all around in these movies, I guess. It's a plot convenience, but it's one that I can excuse because ... Mutant X Gene. I can buy it.

Do you think they could have hinted at a Mystique & Azazel relationship in DOFP maybe before he died and got experimented on or do you think it would have been too much?

I think they had the perfect opportunity to connect Azazel & Mystique to Nightcrawler. I think it would have fit right into her revenge motives EVEN more since she looked at the photos of the mutants and Azazel experimented on in Trask's office. There's a scene in the airport where she's talking to Magneto and she starts to talk about how Trask murdered someone. She was really broken up about it, but he cut her off. Also, in the scene when she is in the hospital and the nurse asks her do you think she has a family, obviously that means Charles, but it could have also meant Nightcrawler.

It could have built a nice little mystery leading into the next film with questions like did she have a baby, did she have a relationship with Azazel and it's believable because DOFP takes place 10 years after FC and A LOT can happen in 10 years. Bryan Singer said he would like to see a young Nightcrawler in Apocalypse, could we see that relationship acknowledged on screen? Mystique could have abandoned him in Germany like she did in the comic.

We all know that the continuity is messed up and we have to go along with it whether we like or not and I know in X2 Mystique & Nightcrawler had a little scene together, but the filmmakers weren't going for that relationship. But now they have 'reset' the timeline, they could explore their relationship in the new timeline.

As a fan of sentinels, I'm greatly satisfied by this latest interpretation and don't need to see them again until the series is rebooted in the distant future.

That was anything but quickly. He was probably there for half an hour or longer, before [BLACKOUT]Mystique[/BLACKOUT] arrived to fish him out of the water.

No, Wolverine was in the water for more than a day. One of the cops on the boat was reading a newspaper with the headline about the attack on the White House and Trask getting arrested on the front page.

Just saw it...loved it!

-I wanted more Storm...but what I got I accepted

-The Sentinels....sheesh-a-scorpion... they were brutal...what they did to some of those folks....ouch!

-past X-scenes were all lovely...no complaints

This was just very enjoyable and I had been spolied on certain thangs...and by accident no less...but love seeing what I saw...very heartwarming

The end credits...which people still leave before...don't folks know by now?.....OH YES! YES! YES!

And I loved explaining who a certain character was to the few people who stayed behind and were curious about my fanboyish response.

Good time....now my high is over:csad:

I still don't understand how anyone can accept what they got of her, especially given her role in the series prior to this film.

Maybe it's because people understand the actress was pregnant during the shooting.

You act like she was weeks away from delivering. She was 3 months. They couldn't figure out more for her to do than that? It's not like she's ever done chase scenes before or anything that demanded a huge physical undertaking.

I understand that, like every interpretation of Days of Future Past, the future portion of the story is a very small portion. Those characters are there to fight, cry, and die.

That's not how being pregnant works.

Please describe for me how being 3 months pregnant works in terms of being able to stand up and verbally deliver lines .... since clearly you understand it better.

Most productions do 12 hour days.
You expect a pregnant woman to be on her feet for most of that.

Let's not go from one extreme to the other here in order to marginalize what I'm asking. I wasn't insinuating she needed a commanding role in the film which would require that much work.

Well they said many times that they had more of a physical role for Halle but it had to be cut down due to her pregnancy. She did deliver lines, it's obvious from some of the b roll footage. It's also what they cut out of the film. You come off a bit aggressive lol. Just take a chill.

We have a saying here in Hollywood..."It's always going to go over." Every production I have been on has gone over...if they say its gonna be over at 7pm that's a lie. Action scenes take days even weeks to shoot.

This is not even the least bit aggressive. Dany told me I didn't know what I was talking about when it comes to pregnancies and gave me one of those lovely  emoticons as if what I brought up was ridiculous.

But I digress .....

Is it safe to be on my feet all day while I'm pregnant?

As long as you walk around, being on your feet isn't a big problem, though it may be tiring. But standing in an almost motionless position the way a cashier would have to could create problems. Standing still for long periods tends to lower blood pressure, and being pregnant would probably make that worse. If your blood pressure drops, you can get light-headed and potentially even faint. You can counter the risk by taking occasional short walks.

It's fine, though it does become more difficult as your pregnancy progresses. In general, walking is good for you during pregnancy; it reduces your chance of blood clots and keeps you in shape.

One thing that can help when you're standing for long periods is support hose. These provide compression so your legs feel better — and they help hold the blood in so it doesn't pool around your feet and make them puffy and swollen. Wearing a maternity belt can also help at the end of the second trimester and during the third; it supports the abdomen and helps redistribute some of the weight.

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and work 12 hour shifts standing/walking/lifting constantly. I'd prefer to be able to cut down the time I work or take breaks, but it's not possible. (I'm an RN.) the best things I've found to help are support hose, and sitting down any chance I get. Stretches also help, when a shift gets long and my back really starts to hurt.

I'm not discounting any of those things. But what you're talking about depends on the level of involvement. Her on screen appearance was as minimal as it got. I wasn't ever preaching that she needed action shots either, albeit there are ways around that using doubles and CGI these days.

Sorry didn't mean to call you aggressive lol.
From what I read at the beginning they did use a double for most of her action scenes. I'm presuming for the shots of her falling and being flung around etc.
