Days of Future Past Official Rate and Review DAYS OF FUTURE PAST - Part 1

All we know is that Magneto was imprisoned for much longer in the original timeline and somehow escaped (or served his sentence). Mystique was captured and experimented on but was still alive and also somehow escaped - not too difficult for a metamorph like her who we've seen sneaking in and out of top-secret facilities. Neither of these is a stretch, in my view.

Actually I figured that the G.I.s that Mystique rescued at the beginning of the show (which included Toad), broke her out of Trask's lab in the original timeline. However since she now had a hate for humans she broke Magneto out.

Watched this for the first time a couple days ago. It's a solid movie but I don't quite get all the hype. Fassbender and McAvoy were good, Jackman was Jackman (which honestly is getting stale) but otherwise I didn't really care for anyone else. Usually Stewart and McKellen were the standouts other than Wolverine in the first 3 movies but I thought they were mediocre in this or maybe I'm just bored with them, I don't know. I think Jennifer Lawrence is highly overrated, I actually prefer Rebecca Romijn as Mystique to be honest. Even though she's technically not a better actress than Lawrence, she's less annoying and comes off as more sinister, which I like better for the character (though I understand that's not what they were going for here).

Never been big on the time travel theory, so that plays a part for me. I thought the Sentinels were underused, the future Sentinels were awesome though. The storyline was solid but not super interesting, just felt like the entire movie was made so they could retcon how mediocre the first 3 movies were, which just made for a mediocre happy ending scene that felt corny and contrived.

They've knocked it out of the park with the casting of Professor X and Magneto in both instances, Jackman is good but not great as Wolverine (too emotional for my tastes), Kevin Bacon was great in First Class, January Jones was very good as well, Famke Janssen is pretty good as Jean most of the time (has some ups and downs), Halle Berry is above average as Storm, Vinnie Jones was solid but underused/poorly written as Juggernaut, Romijn was good, Ben Foster is a great actor but Archangel wasn't really that interesting of a part for him, Rose Byrne was good in her support role, Svetlana Khodchenkova was very good as Viper, Ellen Page is ok, I just don't care about that character.

Outside of that group I have disliked most of the other actors. James Marsden, Sean Ashmore and Anna Paquin are terrible IMO. Most of the other actors are too young and/or mediocre actors. Still haven't seen Cyclops, Sabertooth, Juggernaut, Colossus, Psylocke, Havok, Gambit or Beast done well in any of these movies IMO, they've all been poor, mediocre or underused. None of them have been done justice.

I've pretty much given up on getting an X-Men movie that I truly love or any characters being consistently good besides Professor X, Magneto and Wolverine. Honestly if it were up to me I'd reboot the entire franchise.

I'm glad people enjoy the movies, but I just haven't really seen an X-Men movie that is truly great and what I want to see. First Class was the closest they'll probably ever come and that was mostly because of Fassbender, Bacon, McAvoy and Jones being so good in their roles. But it was missing alot of the characters I like the most.

I wonder if the reason why Singer was able to get away with having a lot of the Future Mutants die in such gruesome deaths were because they weren't shown in "Humanoid" form and thus their appearances being CGI based.

I mean I doubt Singer would have been able to keep a PG-13 rating if he had Colossus ripped into two when he wasn't in his metal form...or showing Sunspot losing his arm when he wasn't in his flame mode...or even Bobby getting his dead decapitated/incinerated when he wasn't in his ice form.

Just finished watching this. I loved it! Probably the best X-Men movie for me so far. There was never a dull moment.

Best scenes for me was Magneto and Charles arguing on the plane. That was some superb acting by both Fassbender and McAvoy. The ending with Charles telling Mystique to not go through with killing Trask, while they jump ahead into the future showing Professor X, Magneto, Wolverine and Kitty Pride all about to be killed was brilliantly done. It was a pretty emotional moment.

The cameos at the end were pretty fantastic to see.

I have a few nit-picks here and there, but for me, this is the best movie of the summer by far.

Thats quite a low score. I think I gave The Amazing Spider-Man 2 a six, despite all the problems I had with the film.

I always said if they peed on the continuity of the series, I'd deduct some major points for that. And they did, big time. But that's not the only problem I had. I'm well beyond bored with the Charles/Erik/Mystique characters and their repetitive conflict. Even Jackman/Logan bored me in this movie...which I think is the first time that has ever happened, even including Origins.

Adherence to continuity is a poor way to judge any story.

Indeed.
Continuity talking bore me to tears and make baby pandas die in China. Even if part of a franchise, the film should be judged on its own merits.

I'm surprised that X2 wouldn't be higher in anyone's list. For me, I can't decide if it's #1 or #2 or a tie with DOFP, but X2 really made me fall in love with mutants.

Just watched this again and I was definitely too hard on it through my first viewing. My expectations on Sentinels and what was possible in the future were just way too high and that had played a toll through the rest of my viewing.

Still have some issues where I think they could have made some better creative decisions, and not a fan much of the third act. But overall I enjoyed it quite a bit on my last viewing.

Just finished watching this. A superb, solid film but I got a little confused when it came to continuity and some moments came across as a little too cheesy. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend the film.

Late to the party as well, I'd give it a 6.

Too many issues, too much Jennifer Lawrence/Mystique, forgot all the things that were built up at the end of First Class and more grandstanding and a whole lot of nothing happens. The future is a cgi fest, and the only action scene in the 70's is the brief Wolverine bit when he first gets back and then the conflict between Beast and Mags in Paris. Then Magneto lifts a Stadium and throws Wolverine in the ocean. Hippie Charles *****es and moans about stuff. The End.

It does nothing to 'fix' the continuity, still pisses all over the source material and just shows a blatant lack of respect for the CBM genre in general. But thank god Singer made sure to devote scenes to show Nixon's Dogs and tape recorder, what an attention to detail!

Pretty much this. I actually got bored during my second watching of this film and tuned out around the time they get to DC. How many movies are we going to watch where Magneto helps them in the beginning and then turns on humans in the end and the X-Men stop it? This is the third time that's happened, and the other 2 films he was the main antagonist all along. I sometimes wish I didn't grow up reading the comics, watching the cartoons, etc. because then I may actually like these movies.

I read the Days of Future Past story in the comics many times and I feel like movies did a good job with its own take on the classic story. I always roll my eyes when comic purists say a movie pisses all over the source material when all adaptions from CBM are just that adaptions and not real copies. I loved the Winter Soldier movie and I read the comic book arc by Brubaker afterwards and of course the movie and comic were very different (except maybe the comic costumes) but I still appreciated both the movie adaptions and the comic since they are both in very different universes. Still if Days of Future Past is deemed as showing no respect to the Comic Book Movie genre by some people then I wonder what every other comic movie that takes liberties and are not of the same quality might be considered to the CBM genre?

Luckily for me I have never read fantastic four comics so I will only judge based on what I see on the screen (If I see the movie of course). The first few Fantastic Four movies (Yes all of them so far that have been releases) are probably the cheesiest comic book movies around just like the Batman and Robin movies.
