Official Supreme Power talkback thread

I must say, I am enjoting the relaunch. My only real gripe is the little flashback to Inertia's past.
Surprise of surprises, a female comic book character's source of character developement is that she was raped. That's certainly origional.

I was really disappointed by that. It's practically a cliche now. To me that's just sloppy storytelling.

Can't we just get a strong, female character who's well adjusted for once?

This book is horrible.

Full of been there done that Cliches and long drawn out, self rightous storylines.

The book is one of the more unoriginal overhyped pieces of future quarter bin material Ive seen.

Throw Gruenwald's Old series , Rising Stars, and some other more recent works in a blender and viola---JMS produces another unreadable garbage.

Dont waste your time on this trash book folks.

Now, that's certainly a little harsh. I really like the book. But I was diapointed with Inertia's little flashback.

I thought she was just getting beat up or picked on.

But I guess since its a guy on top of a girl in a flashback it means rape.

Storm has a good point, we assume she was raped. this is a pretty intense series. I think if the she was being raped, the guy would have said a little more than "Get her".

Looked alot loke rape to me. "specially from the looks on those guy's faces.

I liked it, I thought it worked for Inertia (who is not by any means well adjusted in the first place--furthermore how does rape make you not well adjusted? People who live through trauma can be--and furthermore a lot of women are raped). And no we do have a well adjusted members...Arcana and Stanley are both well adjusted. I think what is better is the sexual tension between Inertia (a rape victim) and Burbank (a rapist), this may lead to an interesting storyline.

um... maybe I misunderstood something, isn't Inertia a lesbian?

Q, I was refering to when someone brought up "sexual tension" between the two.

Oh. Well, I don't think it was meant to mean a sexual atraction. More like Burbank being the classic "predetor," and Inertai being a former "prey," and them having to work together.

Ape-X (somewhat reminiscent on Gorilla Grodd)

I thought the Voice was supposed to be Gorilla Grodd, and Ape-X was supposed to be the gorilla that the Brain (or whatever that guys name is) who has been in Teen Titans lately made.

Speaking of Grodd, you guys think M'buttu was supposed to be the Supreme Power verse's Grodd? He's from Africa, he's a sadistic killer, and he's got psychic powers.

Sounds racist.

Yeah, I do.

Hes the Voice that I was talking about.;)

How is it racist?

I think he thinks because hes black and some racist people..........you know.

I actually thought it was kinda to in a way.

It probably had no intention of being racist though.

Well, Gorillas are from Africa, and talking Gorillas are kind of cheesey. So, I guess their best option was turning a sadistic Gorilla warlord with psychic powers into a sadistic human warlord from Africa with psychic powers. I don't really see how it's racist.

Black people are often called monkeys/gorillas by racist and bigots. All Im saying, it can me misconstrued to be racist.

Yeah. But that seems to be reaching a bit. Especially since there was nothing racist about the character.

this book got me into comics, its by far one of the top three best books on the shelves, its amazing how emotional you can get reading some of those issues,I must say its essential, to go back and get the trades of supreme power before starting into SS,this will give you alot of insight to wear these guys came from, also the minis are great reads and at the very least night hawks can also be called an essential read. You will forget worrying about who can beat batman and start worrying about how fast he could run from night hawk, same goes for super man and hyperion for that matter.
