The Division celebrates two years and 20 million players with free stuff and events

march 2,2018 15 comments

Let’s keep the anniversary articles coming, shall we? Ubisoft is celebrating two years since The Division’s launch as well. The company now counts 20 million players (twice the population of Sweden, sorry Sweden), with an average of three hours played daily over just the past three months. Seems high, yeah?

And all 20 million of those players should probably hop in again over the next month, as the game will be dishing out weekly global events (starting with Outbreak this week), handing out a free sneeze emote (yes really) and offering classified gear sets. Also, some dude on PS4 is obsessed with resistance waves,Read more

The Division 2 announced

Full reveal set for E3 2018.

The-Division-2_03-08-18.jpg

Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have announced The Division 2. A full reveal is planned for E3 2018 in June.

The Division 2 will be powered by an updated version of the Snowdrop Engine, which powers the original The Division, and development is being led by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Annecy, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Bucharest.

Here is the full message from creative director Julian Gerighty on the announcement:
What an incredible few years it’s been for the team here at Massive! When we first began work on Tom Clancy’s The Division, we knew we had something special and something we believed in so strongly that we wanted to make sure we got it right. We also knew we couldn’t achieve that goal without your help.
Since the launch of The Division two years ago, we’ve remained focused on this philosophy. We continue to create more opportunities to interact directly with livestreams, ongoing surveys, and social media. We also introduced public test servers as a way of getting immediate feedback before integrating major features and changes into the game. We’ve never stopped wanting to make The Division better and our most recent 1.8 update is a testament to that, as seen from your overwhelming feedback and support.
All of these new features and experiences have made our team better, too. We’re nimbler and better prepared to take action based on feedback. And now, more than ever before, we have a clear vision of what’s important and what continues to make The Division a special experience for so many people. Following our Year 2 anniversary celebration, we’re going to keep supporting that experience with new title updates that will bring new Global Events, Xbox One X enhancements, and more.
That said, we’ve always envisioned the story in the game we launched in 2016 as the beginning chapter in a larger saga, and today we’re excited to share more info about what’s next for The Division universe.
We’re thrilled to announce that we are working on Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and that development will be led by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Annecy, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Bucharest. The Division 2 will be powered by an updated version of the Snowdrop engine that enables us to realize our ambitions for the sequel, but more importantly, we’re also taking everything we learned over the past two years and applying it towards the sequel to make sure we get it right.
Part of that means recognizing your commitment to The Division. With that in mind, we’re adding a new type of achievement called “Shields” to the game. Earning them will unlock special rewards in The Division 2 when it launches.
On behalf of all the teams at Ubisoft, we thank you for the support you’ve given us over the past two years, and we hope that our continued work will earn that support for many years to come. We can’t wait to show you what we have in store for The Division 2 at E3 2018 in June. See you then!

The last major Ubisoft release for 2018, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, has already launched, giving the French publisher a chance to focus on next year's projects, with Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 being one of the biggest ones. In fact, The Division 2 and Skull & Bones are the only two big-budget Ubisoft video games confirmed to release in 2019, with the rumored Watch_Dogs 3 potentially joining them soon.

Set in Washington D.C., Tom Clancy's The Division 2 takes place seven months after the deadly virus was released in New York and ruined the once-great city. Just like the first Division, the sequel will spotlight people who banded together to survive by any means necessary, this time facing the True Sons, a militaristic faction made up of mutineers and criminals who believe that "might makes right."

To fight them, the agents will use five different special abilities they will have a chance to upgrade in-game. This month, Ubisoft is covering five different skill categories: the Chem Launcher, Drone, Hive, Seeker Mine, and Turret. Each skill category comes in several variants with very different gameplay and effects, and these are just some of the skills you can expect to see on March 15th. Check it out below:

Washington D.C. is on the brink of collapse. Lawlessness and instability threaten our society, and rumors of a coup in the capitol are only amplifying the chaos. All active Division agents are desperately needed to save the city before it's too late. You are a member of the Division, an elite group of civilian agents charged with being the last line of defense. With DC at risk, it's time to gear up and use your unique skills to take on this new threat.

One of our favourite pre-release gaming pastimes is browsing ESRB ratings to see how silly the adult content sounds when listed for parental consumption. Ubisoft has released a brand new trailer for Tom Clancy's The Division 2 that showcases the PC version of the upcoming MMORPG. According to the French company, PC players will have a chance to enjoy an optimized game with uncapped frame rate, uncapped display resolution, full UI and HUD customization, multi-screen and widescreen support, variable refresh rate support, and HDR support.

The Division 2's PC edition will only be available through Uplay and the Epic Games Store when it launches this coming March, leaving Steam out in the cold. Ubisoft Vice President of Partnerships Chris Early had the following to say about the cooperation with Epic – “We entrust Epic to deliver a smooth journey for our fans, from preordering the game and enjoying our Beta to the launch of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on March 15. Epic continues to disrupt the video game industry, and their third party digital distribution model is the latest example, and something Ubisoft wants to support.”

Dark Horse Comics and Ubisoft's Extremis Malis comic series has also received a dedicated trailer. Extremis is the latest entry into The Division series, written by Christofer Emgard (The Whispering Dark, Mirror's Edge, Exordium), with Fernando Baldo (Deep Gravity, Thief) as the lead artist, and Michael Atiyeh (Conan the Avenger, Green Lantern: Rebirth) as the colorist. The first issue for The Division: Extremis Malis went on sale January 9, 2019, currently priced at $3,99.

The Division 2 story trailer

Bing the nation back from the brink.

Division-2-PV_01-16-19.jpg

Ubisoft has released the official story trailer for The Division 2.

Here is an overview of the game, via Ubisoft:

About

Seven months have passed since a deadly virus hit New York City and the rest of the world, crippling the population. When the virus hit, The Division, a unit of civilian sleeper agents, was activated as the last line of defense. Since then, Division agents have been fighting relentlessly to save what remains.

For The Division, the stakes are higher than ever. Washington, D.C. – the most heavily protected city on earth – is at risk, leaving the entire nation on the brink of collapse. If Washington, D.C., is lost, then the nation falls. As a Division agent who has been in the field for seven months, you and your team are the last hope to stop the fall of society after the pandemic collapse.

Developed by Ubisoft Massive and the same teams that brought you Tom Clancy’s The Division, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is an online open world, action shooter RPG experience set in a collapsing and fractured Washington, D.C. This rich new setting combines a wide variety of beautiful, iconic, and realistic environments where the player will experience the series’ trademark for authenticity in world building, rich RPG systems, and fast-paced action like never before. Play solo or co-op with a team of up to four players to complete a wide range of activities, from the main campaign and adversarial PvP matches to the Dark Zone – where anything can happen.

Key Features

  • A Transformed Washington, D.C. – In the wake of the virus, storms, flooding, and subsequent chaos have radically transformed Washington, D.C. Explore a living open world full of diverse environments, from flooded urban areas to historic sites and landmarks, during one of the hottest summers in history. The streets have been overrun with enemy factions, each with its own agenda and each vying for control of DC. It will be up to you to liberate the city and protect what remains of society.
  • Best In-Class Endgame ExperienceTom Clancy’s The Division 2was built with an “endgame-first” mentality, ensuring players always have access to fresh, unique, and diverse activities long after completing the main campaign. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2’s endgame will introduce brand new challenges and progression systems, unique twists and surprises, and for the first time, raids. Players will also be able to access a wealth of post-launch content, including a full year of free additional story-driven missions, map expansions, and gameplay modes.
  • Revamped Player Progression and New Specializations – After completing the main campaign, gain access to new specializations such as demolitionist, sharpshooter, and survivalist. Each specialization will open up an entire new progression system with new skills, mods, and unique talents to acquire and maximize your agent efficiency in your chosen role.
  • Dynamic Living World – Civilians and enemy factions are constantly striving to survive, vying for necessities such as food, medicine, and ammunition. As the factions face off against each other in a ravaged DC, they will fight to seize control of resources and locations – and for their very survival. The various needs and motivations from each faction will collide, triggering different encounters between enemy and friendly factions, civilians, and ultimately you as an Agent, creating a dynamic living world full of surprises.
  • Unite the Civilians – Civilians have banded together in settlements to rebuild their society, but their very existence is threatened. Work closely with them to keep them safe and in turn, they will come to your aid and provide supplies and assistance to build up your base of operations, giving a deeper meaning to the people and the world around you.
  • A Renewed Dark Zone Experience – The Dark Zone is an untamed area of the map with some of the best loot in the game. The Dark Zone is also the most dangerous area in the game, where fear, betrayal, and tension are high, as any other agent can turn against you and steal your hard-earned loot. In Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, this playground was designed to provide a fair and exciting experience to all players, regardless of their level of progression.
The Division 2 is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 15. Users can sign-up now for access to a private beta from February 7 to 10.

Tom Clancy's The Divison 2 is almost here and news keep on piling up. It was recently revealed that the game's main story would last close or equal to 40 hours. Now, the latest report states that the game's DLC content will be free; maps, story missions and even a PvP mode will be free for everyone.

The Koalition spoke with Senior Producer Tony Sturtzel and revealed about the post-launch plans for the project. Sturtzel said that the base game itself has plenty of content but the post-launch additions will expand it even more.

“There definitely will be more modes added as free post-launch content,” said Sturtzel. “Our current goal is to ship this game with a few maps uniquely built for the best PvP experiences. Our decision to create from an endgame-first mentality means that fans can expect more content drops in the future after completing the campaign. Additional story-driven missions and map expansions will also be free as our ongoing commitment to keep our dedicated community energized and playing.”

Ubisoft is trying to fix some mistakes from the first Division, many players were stating the same mistake which was a lack of content. According to the Senior Producer, The Divison 2 will not repeat those same mistakes. What the Senior Producer failed to mention was a release date for DLC content. As soon as we know more, we will let you know.

Tom Clancy's The Divsion 2 will be available worldwide for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Check out the full interview from The Koalition and read about the changes being made that makes the game different from its predecessor.

The Division 2 Specializations guide: signature weapons and endgame progression explained

The Division 2 Specializations give you plenty to grind for after hitting max level - here’s everything you need to know
The Division 2 Specializations aim to right some of the significant wrongs with endgame progression in the first Division, by providing players with three additional unlock paths to work through after hitting max level.

Key to these The Division 2 Specializations are signature weapons, which serve a similar purpose to that of Destiny 2’s power weapons, offering massive damage with the caveat of limited ammunition. When you hit max level in The Division 2 you’ll have the option of picking a signature weapon – sniper rifle, crossbow, Read more
