Shogun's already got a good career going for him, he just needs to get it back on track is all. He's beaten some of the world's best already in Rampage, Overeem, Arona, and Little Nog. This is only the second time he's ever been stopped in 18 MMA fights (first was to Babalu in the IFC tourny).

I've seen damn near all of his fights, and this was the first one in which I've ever seen him come out so out of shape cardio-wise. He's usually the one pushing the pace and forcing his opponent to falter, but it was completely the opposite this past weekend.
I don't know if he just took Forrest too lightly or what, but he definitely needs to go back and rework his cardio plan and get back to his old self.

Not to take anything away from Forrest, because he did a damn good job gameplanning and was able to outlast Rua. But if Shogun actually prepared himself better cardio-wise, I don't think Forrest would've won it.

What's up with Pride fighters getting thrashed by UFC fighters? Has this question been answered yet? I'm curious. Anyone here watch WEC?

Yeah, I watch WEC when I can catch. Especially now that Paulo Filho is in it. That man's the ****.
Really wish they would've put him in the UFC though. Lord knows the MW division needs some quality fighters to challenge Silva. :o

As for the PRIDE fighters, as Vengeance said, steroids has been popping up a lot in convos lately. I know there was no testing in Japan, so they could use whatever the hell they wanted.
But I don't think this is a problem for Shogun. His last fight before this was on PRIDE's show in the US, and all their fighters had to get tested. He destroyed Overeem for the second time (1st round KO) and was clean.

I just think Shogun took a backstep as far as training goes. Which is kind of strange considering he's normally a well-conditioned fighter.
Maybe Chuck took him out the night before to welcome him to the UFC and they were both hungover for their fights?

I don't watch WEC regularly either but when I channel surf and it happens to be on, I'd watch. Do you watch Bodog Fights? I thought the fight last Tuesday was quite boring. Very much one-sided, dominated by Sonnen from the very beginning. The fight clips of Suloev made him look good but when faced with Sonnen, he hardly do anything. Pfft!

Silva. UFC76... we'll see a rematch between him and Franklin, right? I was paying attention during TUF commercial break. And I heard Sylvia's name mentioned too. Who will he be fighting? I hope it won't be another snooze-fest with that guy. I can't stand watching his fights. :(

Hahaha! Very nice story of an excuse on behalf of Shogun. :oldrazz: I dunno... it just amazes me how many PRIDE fighters have lost in UFC fights.

Anyone watched last night's episode of TUF? What is up with Hughes and his Bible class? Hahaha! I don't see how reading the bible can help the guys prepare for their fights unless he's telling them to pound their opponents with the book. I didn't think Dorian was going to win the fight if he's no good on the ground. Sure, you can win a fight on your feet but you've got to be quick in knocking your opponent down. He did a little bit of damage to Matty but not enough.

Yeah pulling out the bibles looked a little uncomfortable to say the least....not sure what the purpose was?? Read the book and tell me who I am??....wtf??,...you're a colossal ass, that's who you are....and I didn't have to read anything!! :)

Yeah, Shogun didn't look the same. My friends were amazed and couldn't believe there eyes. Anyone catch what Griffin's faced looked like though? He was destoryed.

And whats up with The Iceman? He really needs to step up and do something quick!

Anyone know why Ortiz/Evans II didn't come about?

Ortiz is in the middle of some dragged out contract negotiations and White was worried enough to switch up the main event to be sure.

I hadn't planned on buying the PPV with a lame headliner of Ortiz/Evans II. Now with it being Bisping/Evans I'm not going anywhere near it. Though it would be nice to see Bisping get his ass kicked. :o

So who else is completely shocked by the news that Couture has quit the UFC, vacated his title, and made it public that he is not happy with Dana White?

I would have loved to see a Randy vs. Fedor match as I'm sure the rest of the MMA world would have, but now that Fedor has signed with M-1, and Randy has quit I guess it's one of those matches that'll never come to fruition. Personally, I think Randy would've handed Fedor his first loss and Fedor knew that.

I'm still shocked that he just quit like that, but I guess I understand his reasoning.

I wonder if the Sylvia vs. Vera fight could be for the vacated title now, or if they'll hold some kind of tournament over the next few months.

I don't see Fedor being scared of Couture at all. His big sticking point was about promoting MMA in Russia and fighting in his country's SAMBO tournaments, which Zuffa wanted no part of. So he's apparently going to an organization that's cool with cross-promotional matches.
Come to think of it, the UFC is the only one that doesn't cooperate with other orgs to promote matches. Which is strange since there's potentially a lot of money to be made in it.

I don't blame Randy for quiting. He was arguably the top draw for the UFC since Liddell started his slump, and he's seeing other fighters make more money than he is. And he's the freakin' champ.
He'll have to wait about nine months before being able to fight for another promotion. But we could still see the Fedor/Couture dream fight sometime middle to late 08.

As for the HW title, the Big Nog/Kongo match at the Dec 29 show was going to determine the number one contender.
Now I'd imagine that match will be for the vacated HW title, with the Sylvia/Vera winner getting the first shot at the new champ.

Randy's quitting UFC specifically so he can go hunting for Fedor. Bet on it.

I agree. That's the fight he wanted. The one he could go out on, either way. Zuffa's failure to budge on certain contractual issues cost them Fedor and the biggest fight in MMA history.
Add to that Zuffa lying to Randy about his purse size, and I would walk out on Dana too.

Just sucks that we'll have to wait damn near another year for this fight to happen. :csad:

That Vera fight was very disappointing. He didn't follow his gameplan @all. He also messed his hand up.

I don't think Fedor is scared of anybody.

Anderson Silva is a beast & beat Franklin's @ss again as I expected. Franklin is a warrior just for fighting him again. Franklin did much better against the clinch this time but Silva is just too vicious & skilled to be stopped. I'm not sure if he can be prepared for. UFC signed Ryo Chonan(beat Silva b4 w/flying heel hook), but I doubt he can beat Silva now

Brock Lesnar has been signed to UFC. Human Weapon is going to be focusing on Sambo(used in MMA by greats like Fedor & Arlovski) this Fri on the History channel. Kimbo Slice makes his EliteXC debut on Sat. on Showtime.

I am surprised there's no TUF discussions in this thread.

I was just thinking about that today, like I was starting to think I was the only one watching it. It has been kind of a weak TUF season so far.

I haven't really been watching that, who's team is winning so far? I heard Team Serra is destorying Team Hughes.

It's 6-2 in favor of Team Serra. Team Hughes won last night's fight. It was a good fight. Bloody.

Speer got cut deep with that first jab. Good fight though. I can see Tommy Speer doing big things.

Don't know if it's editing, but Serra is really the one coming off as the dick this season. Everytime you see him he's bad talking Hughes, whereas i've heard little to nothing from Hughes about Serra.
