I've probably said this before, but I have no problem with them using revolving door casts in the core X-titles. The problem is that I don't think Fraction is taking advantage of it how we'd like because he's just focusing on the leaders and the X-Club with 10,000 brief cameos per issue, and Carey isn't taking advantage of it at all unless it's an issue that ties in with a crossover.

When Fraction said he was using a revolving door cast, I imagined one storyline would follow Scott, Emma, Pixie, Dazzler, and Nightcrawler, but the next storyline would follow Storm, Colossus, Wolverine, Karma, Cannonball. You know, a new team every few issues, based on which character would best fit the story they wanted to tell. Fraction did that well during Lovelorn (the story where Hank & Warren assembled the X-Club, but Peter and Emma were fighting the Russian mob), but that's really about it. Otherwise, it's been Scott, Emma, a member of the X-Club, and a quick cameo from the X-Gallery.

thats exactly what i thought, and in that aspect ive been disappointed as well. its clear Uncanny is being used to direction the tone of the mutant books and being guided by Scott. i think they missed an opportunity with Legacy taking on the revolving cast, as where Uncanny has been focused on "how is Scott handling the trials of being the leader of an entire race" with setting the tone of the island with people like Namor, Magneto, and Beast, Legacy (preferably renamed something else) could have different squads every arc doing what the X-Men do- just look at the Necrosha tie-in happening now. you have ur small focus and character development, but then you see a different cast every three months.

The biggest problem with the line today is that there are too many damn characters. IA with that assessment. I miss the days when each book had its own distinct team instead of the big random crapshoot we have now. My two favorite books have been Xforce and New Mutants and I think in part bc they are at least consistent with the characters they feature. I cant wait for Second Coming to come and go bc Im really hoping the status quo actually is changed and we get more structure. I will be highly disappointed if that doesnt happen

I agree I wand squads or teams again. They can band together when there is a big event but other than that seperate teams.

My problem with how Fraction's handling the large cast is that we're getting absolutely no character growth from anyone. From Uncanny 500 to now, not a single character has changed or grown in any way. The most arguably is Pixie, and even that was just during the San Fransisco days. No character growth just bores me. It's just another 2-D story moving forward.

I actually didn't mind Austen that much. He did great things with Juggernut. And hie brought Husk into the team, and as a Generation X fan, that pleased me.

i spent the weekend reading the whole run since 500 and what i can also say about Uncanny now is that theres no sense of time. i know we're talking about comics here, but how long were they in San Fran. did they ever use their X-Embassy besides the one class with the russian refugees? did they ever complete it? did the students move into their apartments? there was some disjoint between the end of the X-Club's time travel and Utopia, and how long did that last? how long did it take them to build and install those engines for Utopia? how long were they moved in before it started sinking when every book shows the island in different stages. how long did it take Magneto and Namor to build that pillar? its morning and Scott says Magneto was meditating on the mountain for 24hrs, but he sent Logan to New York at the same time and its still night when they leave. now throw in
Kitty. how long has it been since shes been gone til now, and how can she still be alive without food and water?

Isnt her default state during Phasing. Im sure read In X-treme that phasing is her default state.
And I dont think she needs to eat while phasing, does she?

Fraction goes down for me as one of the worst writer to ever take on Uncanny, if not the worst. There really isnt much good that I can think of about this run. Its just bad.
Brubaker's run was worse to me. I just wanted his stories to end. Fraction has just been disappointing.

Either way both were disappointing, because both are two of Marvel's best writers right now. Fraction's work on Iron Man is fantastic, and well Brubaker's Cap is probably one of the best, if not the best Marvel book right now.

As a Generation X fan just a writer remembering the characters exist is a bonus :csad:

then shouldnt she have just fallen right out the bullet then? after phasing through the earth she was too exhausted to get out.

the first story i ever read was Holy War and i liked it alot (maybe me being catholic had something to do with it). thats when i started collecting.

One thing that's been grating my cheese since the Utopia crossover ended is how little time the X-Men were in San Francisco. The X-Center/Graymalkin Industries was their base for only one year (real time). SFX started in Summer 2008, and Utopia started in Summer 2009. On a lot of levels, it felt like Fraction was still trying to establish a status-quo in San Francisco. The characters talked about the students moving into new homes in the City with adult guardians, but that never happened. The X-Men were supposed to become the official superhero team of San Francisco, but they hardly did anything. Just a few months short of Utopia starting, editor Axel Alonso actually said he was keeping the X-Men in San Francisco as long as possible. The new status-quo needed more time to establish itself, and they changed it.

Now the X-Men are on an island off the coast of California. Not only that, but I have a feeling Nation X won't last very long after Second Coming. It feels like the X-Men are still trying to establish their home on that island, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they were living somewhere else by the time Second Coming ends.

Ever since Messiah CompleX, it feels like the editors have been creating wild changes to the status-quo of the X-Men in lieu of real story telling. Then before the dust gets a chance to settle, there's another wild change. I guess it's supposed to keep things fresh and interesting, but I think it's actually making the X-Men less accessible, and it makes the editorial offices look unorganized.

i suppose Utopia could fail and they would move back to Greymalkin Industries and keep to those early promises, but that would literally be a step back from everything theyve done in the past 8 months.

It wouldn't matter, cause we all know at some point, they'll rebuild the mansion and be back in New York. It might not be next issue or even 30 issues later, but some day some writer is going to take them back to Westminster.

Except I think Charles sold his property and something else is being built there now. I think only the graveyard remains.

Knowing Xavier, he probably sold the land to someone who'd rebuild the mansion for him. I wouldn't put it past Marvel to pull that.

I am sure the guy who erased all memory, records, pictures and references to Scott's other brother wouldnt have a problem getting his family estate back

older brother???? thought he was the youngest brother? unless of course, there is another

Oh hai Fraction, that little HX-N1 virus you tried to spray Colossus with this week was nice and all but COLOSSUS DOESN'T NEED TO BREATHE!!!! :argh:

And look who Magneto's bringing back...
