I'm under the impression Cyclops let Boom-Boom die because he wanted to urgently do something involving time travel. The amazing thing about time travel is that you literally have all the time in the world.

I agree with Cyclops. Cable was more important than saving Boom Boom.

Apparently, once they got a lock on Cable, they had to move ASAP.
Why? If Cable is (hypothetically) detected at January 1, 3040, all X-Force has to do is travel to January 1, 3040. If X-Force waits until next week to depart for the future, Cable will still be at January 1, 3040.

I was thinking that myself. :(

I'm sure that when they return to the past they will return to the exact moment they left and boomboom will be saved, I couls be wrong but I doubt it.

I dont know why Tabitha was labeled as Boom-Boom in this book. That was the original codename she went by back when she was in X-factor and New Mutants but she hasnt gone by that in years. She changed it to Boomer early on in X-force and a few years later she became Meltdown, which has been her codename ever since at least till now when they screwed it up in this book. Boom-Boom is what she called herself when she was a kid and it seems odd for it to be used on her now since she has grown into a young adult

if that is the case then ANYONE who goes along on a mission with the X-men is an X-man
Technically he died as a member of X-force as the mission he fought in was under that newly formed team. The lines of who and who wasnt an X-men used to be very clear, but lately those lines have been so blurred. Like right now, I think everyone with them in San Francisco is considered one regardless of it they are on an active squad or not

tabitha was in one of the manifest destiny stories and she went by Boom-Boom

Okay then I'll give Yost and Kyle some slack but for whoever had her going by that, its still a step backwards. It would be like Jean going back to calling herself Marvel Girl or Kitty, Sprite

Tabitha was referred to as Boom-Boom in the X-Men Evolution cartoon, and Kyle & Yost were writers on that show before they were comic writers. They probably called her Boom-Boom again out of habit.

I think, at least, when someone goes on a mission under the name of X-Men assignment, during the time (s)he goes along with the team until the mission is over, in the period, the person should be considered as an X-Man, at most, or a colleague at least.
But since Caliban was a mutant and he always tried to do something for his race and his close/long history with the team and its members, not to mention he died for the cause in the end, I would consider him as an X-Man, not just a colleague.

I'm sorry guys but the fates of Surge and Hellion hardly seem final to me. I think people here just like to complain and they will be back front and center for the next issues of X-Force.

I also hope Boomer/Boom Boom/Tabitha stays dead.

Yeah they dont seem final. Yost/Kyle do do alot of killing but they have a history of also doing a bit of fake "deaths". They seemingly killed Hellion and Prodigy back in New X-men only to have them alive in the next issue

yeah, i was thinking that as she grew and mastered her powers, choosing Meltdown as a codename, showed growth, you know, character development, these dudes, Yost and Kyle seem to ignore some things in order to fit characters into their writing. I mean i was diggin X-Force until now...but apparently the random killing of fringe characters must being anew.... Also..was tabitha drugged or groggy? because she should have been able to explode Leper Queen's head without even lifting a finger

or Proudstar calling himself warpath...oh wait

Hellion...a telekinetic that 'dies' but comes back...oh geez.

Seriously, what is wrong with killing Boom Boom?

And people are losing their **** because it LOOKS like they might kill Surge and Hellion.

I'm going to keep reading to find out.

I suppose it's because K&Y have a notorious history of being fond of mass killing of characters.

No mostly because of Tabitha as an idividual, cause she was hardly that important or popular, it has more to do with these two writers' regard for ''killing is fun and we shall do it until we have enough of it''.

I don't care about her either, I haven't heard of this character like what? Ten years at the least, so she getting killed gave me no particular feeling, she has been dead to me for longer than that anyway.

You know they could be calling her that in an affectionate way. When you become aware that a close friend or family is in a dangerous situation (that u cud run in the house n have a chance to rescue)u might to flash back to your earliest/sweetest memories of them which might get u calling them by their old nicknames as a term of endearment. Like even James when he busts in looking for her calls her Tabby? Now we cant hear his voice but you can imagine his voice sounding strained as he asks who would want to kill the fun loving annoying kid sister type cornball being held by a tortuous murderer~! u might use the nickname. Talking to people in mortal dangerous in that sentimental way can remind them who they r in the moent that u care and ur coming to save their ass.Might just get them thru it....It's either great writing/characterization or a ******ed mistake..

That's the sort of family feeling/regard the x people havent showed in quite a while regarding death n any member other than jean grey?!..Redheaded/Summers (possible) members of his fam are always 1rst priority.. Except 4 Banshee who died and he goes way back further than boomer and none of em gave a damn. They left Gambit to freeze to death..and now they're pretending like they give a damn about having to kill Bishop who obviously is prepared to kill any one of them on a dime?wtf? keep it moving ....I'm not going to miss her tho i hope there's hope 4 Surge and especially Hellion...

At least Scott says he needs a "minute" to think about what they just did...for all the speed they've got why any of em didnt take out the leper queen who wasnt fighting back just standing there talking trash like an alien villian from star trek is beyong me..Meanwhile she'll kill a whole bunch of humans and mutants till they get back....Angel & his projectile feathers could have slowed her enuf till tab recovered strength.....Domino her luck & her guns useless..totally implausible but exciting....

Not necessarily. There's a billion and one theories for time travel, and whichever theory reigns tends to depend on what universe or work of time travel we happen to be discussing.

From what I figure, they've been using the idea of "linear" time with all this. That is to say, one day that goes by in the time the X-Men are in, the same day goes by in the time Cable is in. It's not a matter of jumping to the day and time they supposedly locked onto Cable, a la Back to the Future. In fact, nothing was explained about the time devices - they could very well home in on the locked frequency rather than jump to a specific date and time.

Cable's also been particularly slippery in his attempts to avoid Bishop and get somewhere/sometime safe. They had a lock on where he is; as to how long he's there is anybody's guess. It doesn't do a particular service to jump there after he's already jumped ahead, wasting opportunity and time.

That just seems to me how they're handling time travel here. The closest similarity I can think of would be Chrono Trigger, in how they would essentially go back and forth through time based on whenever they happened to be, not to specific points and days and dates.

By that definition, they should be running into Cable & the baby while she's still a baby. Less than a full year has passed by in the "present" but 7 years have passed for Cable & Hope. If we're looking at relative time travel, then Scott's team will find Cable still holding a nameless toddler.

Besides, we already know that Cable & Hope's positions in time are more or less solidly placed. We found that out when Bishop traveled to the same day twice to try to kill them. It happened in the first couple of issues of Cable.

again wolverine's all black costume is beastly. the gray and black ..ehh not so much

I wasnt going by what the characters said but what Yost/Kyle used when they revealed her as 1 of the mutants. It said Tabitha Smith aka Boom-Boom. The only character to call her that in the book was X-23 and she doesnt know her
