Lock or merge if a thread for this already exists.

The first little bit of this came out this week for X-Men Forever, and it's looking v-e-r-y interesting.

Chris Claremont back to the 1991 X-Men arc that he left after his 17-year run.

I am cautiously very excited about the idea of this run. Claremont has made it clear that he's not afraid of killing off characters for good, and that he is focused on bringing some character development that many argue has been missing for some time.

The team that he's using looks to be one of the best rosters I think I've ever seen. From what I gathered:
Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Kitty, Remy, and Rogue-with-Ms. Marvel-abilities
.

That takes all of my favorite mutants and chucks them on the same team, from a time *before* Storm got married and got boring (imo), before Gambit went all angsty and crazy, before Rogue got all mopey and weak, before Wolverine became a brainwashed freak his whole life, before Sabretooth begged to die and had his head chopped off, before Kitty went MIA in a bullet flying through space, before Jean died, and before Scott became a cheating scumbag. Looks good to me so far. These are the X-Men I first fell in love with years ago.

Knowing Claremont, this can go either way. It could seriously rock my socks, or it could bomb miserably.

What are the reactions out there, now that we've seen a glimpse of what is to come?

oh no...he was already that, my friend. i like the dude..but, he's like a kid in a candy store when it comes to telepaths

Nah he wasnt a cheating scumbag yet. Maybe a scumbag, but not a cheating one

Technically it's not cheating if you run off with the woman your wife is a clone of.

Isn't Psylocke part of the line-up? I haven't read it, but thought she would be since Claremont usually uses her.

Character development? From Claremont?

That's a good laugh.

You know what's even funnier? That women in Marvel can cheat without being called out (and "man" making inappropriate advances towards someone's girlfriend), and some guy did the same thing under a highly stressful influence can't get a break from it.
If I were Scott, I would totally dump Jean long time ago, not only was she hardly emotionally faithful, but there's one thing worse than having your partner died - your dead partner doesn't stay dead.

qft.

what woman in Marvel cheated and didnt get called out on it???
yes Claremont is known for his character development. Look at how the Xmen changed under his pen...Storm went from the weakest member and became one of their top leaders...Wolverine went from killer psycho dude into a failed samurai....Kitty Pryde grew into a strong character...even Magneto grew into Michael Xavier who saw the light. If it wasnt for the X-editors wanting him to be a villain again he would still be on the good side.

Storm went from the weakest member and became one of their top leaders...

Because he Mary-Sued the crap out of her.

Wolverine went from killer psycho dude into a failed samurai....

He's still the same psycho-killer dude deep down, and Claremont wanted to make him an actual evolved wolverine. As in the animal. The editors said NO.

Kitty Pryde grew into a strong character...

Because Claremont was, and still is, obsessed with her.

even Magneto grew into Michael Xavier who saw the light. If it wasnt for the X-editors wanting him to be a villain again he would still be on the good side.

And this was just silly, because it ruins the entire idea of Magneto having the same dream as the X-Men but different ideologies -- in short, it ruins any possible thought that, at times, Magneto has a point.

That, and Mags is Top 5 Comic Villains all time, so you can't go and throw that away.

We all know that Sue Storm's been going down on Namor behind Reed's back for years!

:hehe:

If Reed died and at the funeral Sue and Namor make out at his grave and then He moves into the Baxter Building and into her bed...I would be saying the same thing about her.

That was Dave Cockrum not Claremont

I dont see what CC did with Storm and Kitty as Mary-Sueing. They were wrong in some issues got beat down in others...Mary-sueing is when you make the character always right and never getting beat

i think its gonna be a series

That takes place in the past?

its sort of like an elseworlds in which Claremont never left the books after Xmen #3 and was left to his own devices. The good thing is that CC can do whatever he wants(within reason) as this isnt the franchise book

Yeah. It takes off with Claremont picking up exactly where he left off in '91.

Am I the only one that has read it?

Well, on the last page Wolverine is seen . . . . um, dead. Yeah. I know some people that are pretty gleeful about it, but as a huge Wolverine fan I'm kinda disappointed. I really wanted to see him interacting with the old team again. Claremont had his issues, but he could write Wolverine.

So he's been going around boasting that any character he kills off is going to stay dead. Do we think this is the case with Logan?

I for one am thinking that he's going to take off on a slightly altered version of his own Dark Wolverine that he was planning on going with back in the day. Anyone else heard about this or have an opinion?

I know he had a story where they killed of Logan only to have the Hand rez him and make him their top assassin.

it came out already????

This last Wednesday there was a reprint of X-Men 1-3 and then a sort of preview of X-Men Forever Alpha. Pretty nifty, I gotta tell you. Only, like, 8 pages, but still nifty.

Yep, that's the one I'm talking about. That arc also had
Wolverine's healing factor rejecting the adamantium as he is recovering from his massive wounds, him fighting a bunch of superheroes, and finally when he turns good again hooking up with Jean during his recovery.
We'll see how much of that actually happens.

It also looks like
CC might be following an arc with Storm and the Shadow King.

sweet I just subscribed to this book

I know. For now, I'm totally sold.

I'm hoping for the best. Even if most of what I've put up is old news and only rumored to be followed in this one, I'm hoping.

Just for anyone interested, this one was one of the preview pages put up on the net:

Interesting. Remy Picard.

Must be before he was given his last name "LeBeau."

. . . .

Don't know how I feel about that. Sure, he might not have been LeBeau before, but why change it?

things im looking forward to
1)No third summers brother
2)Link between Longshot and Gambit finally revealed
3)No Emma
4)Logan and Victor's true relationship
