Comics Official X-Men Forever Thread

Always think that it doesn't take dramatic efforts to kill Wolverine.

I suppose he can be starved to death, or drown, his healing factor still needs Calorie and oxygen to work, unless his body can "regenerate" these two as well...that would be too ridiculous.

Wolverine was eaten by a dinosaur and emerged from the dinosaurs fecal matter hours later, so no I don't think Wolverine needs oxygen to live...

"Fecal"???

I dont see what CC did with Storm and Kitty as Mary-Sueing. They were wrong in some issues got beat down in others...Mary-sueing is when you make the character always right and never getting beat
Oh yeah! Kinda like Cyclops right now? :p

Okay, seriously. This is ridiculous. Wolverine has a healing factor. He's not immortal. He can die! What's with those guys?

Well, in recent years Wolverine has been burnt to his skeleton core, among other things, and regenerated almost instantly.

Back in the day he'd at least take a while to heal from ridiculous things. Now it's like he doesn't feel pain and just keeps on coming. He's like Marvel's version of the Terminator.

I shudder to think what'll happen if CC goes ahead with his planned "Dark Wolverine" storyline. Then we'll just have an unstoppable villain instead of an unstoppable hero.

Wolverine's limits were much more reasonable back in the day, though. After Wolverine got crucified in Australia it took him a fair bit of time to recover.

And if he got fried by one blast of lightning, I expect that the healing factor thing will stay toned down, thus keeping the whatever happens to Wolverine more interesting.

As for this dino-poop regeneration--when in the world did this happen?!

more things im glad to see gone....
1) Wolverine's origin and stupid bone claws
2)Storm isnt married
3)No Vulcan and Deadly Genesis
4)Nightcrawler isnt the son of a demon mutant
5)No X23 or Daken

Say what you will about Claremont but he has so far been the only writer in the past 10 years to write a decent Gambit. While Im also not liking the Picard name change, I'm sure what CC brings to the table in terms of him will be better than the crap seen by Gambit's other recent writers

very few are able to write the Xmen better than CC

Well, alot of mutants undergo a secondary mutation, maybe Wolverines wasn't physical, thats why he went from being an enhanced healer to a full blown god.

I thought secondary mutations had nothing to do with the main mutation and was a new power

I can name many writers who can write the modern X-men better than Claremont. Lobdell, Kelly, Seagle, Morrison, Whedon, Brubaker, Fraction, Carey.....etc. CC was an amazing writer during his first run but his work in the X-titles since coming back has been subpar. With that said, he still manages to write for certain characters rather well even if the stories surrounding them suck. Gambit happens to be one of those characters that does rather well under his pen. No other writer has really been invested in the character this past decade.

Actually most mutants NEVER undergo a secondary mutation. You can count the number of cases of this in the books using both your hands

It depends. Iceman's definetly was related to his original power

Near as I can tell, secondary mutations were extensions of a character's original powers in some way, shape or form...

Writers just wanted an excuse to power up their faves, basically.

That's one rather childish obsession of wanting your fav characters to be more powerful then they already are.

True, but sometimes it's a benefit. For example, I think Emma is much better with her diamond form than without it.

Simply because it adds another dimension to her in terms of action scenes. Not to mention the fact that it gives her a unique power set and stops her from just being a telepath - something that never quite stands amongst the X-Men. I'm not sure why, but with Professor X being presented as the most powerful psychic in the world, every psychic that follows him onto the X-Men needs a 'gimmick' tacked onto it (Jean has the Phoenix, Psylocke has her psi-knife, Emma has her diamond form).

I don't know why. It just works.

Yeah but in the case of Psylocke and Jean those abilities were apart of their psychic powers. Emma's diamond form has nothing to do with her telepathy. Emma was never an action person and there shouldnt be a need to send her into fights. She is a schemer and loves to plot from behind the scenes. Keep her teaching the kids and put a more action oriented telepath in her place. Charles Xavier isnt going to be around forever

Tell that to nearly every X-Writer currently in the business... Mike Carey chief among them.

thats why to me it all comes off as someone's fanfic

I agree. I should also point out that the (IMO) stupid reasons why Morrison gave Emma the diamond power is because he (a) wanted someone to replace Colossus in the super strong invulnerable category and (b) wanted her to have a power that reflects her codename.

I disagree. I actually liked Nicieza's Gambit a lot.

Yup. I thought Emma's diamond form was a silly add-on that had absolutely nothing to do with her powers. It was quite random imo. Glad I'm not the only one who thought so.
