World On a scale of 1 to 10

SR = 6
STM = 9
(BB = 10)

For the sequel - escape the Donner-verse, bring in the Supes from the last 'epic' fight of Justice League, STAS & from Jeph Loeb's books.

Superman: The Movie is my all time favorite movie. So it gets a 9. (Docking a point for spinning the world backwards...)

I did really like Superman Returns...but I'm going to have to give it a 6. I wanted to like it more, and I see it's potential, but I have to take points for the following:

Lex Luthor. His goal was exactly the same as it was in 1978 albeit on a grander scale. And his plan was flat out insane.

Way too much was cut out. And from what it looks like, the story may have really suffered.

And there was no relationship between Lois & Clark. None. I expect a little more chemistry between them in this day and age.

And the backstory was non-exsistant. This is supposed to be a sequel to Superman II, but if that's the case then either A) Lois should know that Clark is Superman, or B) She should have no idea how her child has powers. Remembering sleeping with Superman, but forgetting the secret identity. In terms of story, you can't have it both ways.

Superman: The Movie owns SR in every way. And Singer has proven that he's no Richard Donnor.

Superman Returns is a sequel to Lester's Superman II. So if you remember Clark/Superman kiss Lois so she can forget who he truely was - Superman. She might of remember that she slept with Superman. She didn't know that Jason had powers until he push that piano. Then it click in her head that she did sleep with Superman and that Jason is his child. So the backstory might exists when looking at it that way. Next, she didn't want to have a relationship with Superman in Superman Returns because she is planning to marry Richard. That might cause Richard to be a bad guy and since Lois did tell Richard that Kryptonite can hurt Superman that he would use it against him. Also Superman didn't want to have a relationship with Lois because he didn't want to be between her and Richard. That isn't Superman's way. So he kept to himself but he still loved her and wouldn't want to hurt her in anyway.

First, you just did a HELL of a lot more explaining the memory kiss than Singer did. "Oh, I just ignored that part. I assumed she remembered sleeping with him." So it's actually from the creative standpoint that I made that criticism...he honestly just picked and chose what to keep and what not to keep.

And the part where you say Lois didn't want a relationship with Superman? That wasn't my point. My criticism there was that her and Clark had no relationship. And that's something I really didn't care for. They have like, two conversations over the course of the movie...Lois barely even looks in his direction during the entire 2 hour movie. And in every incarnation of Superman, they have a lot more chemistry.

STM: 9.5

SR: 6.0 (Originally I rated SR as a 8.5 but after watching it again back to back after STM, it made me change my mind)

Superman Returns isnt worth a dime. I hate what Singer did. To me its a bad rip off of STM and ill never watch it again. As for marking the originals id give STM: 9 and S2 The Donner Cut :9.5. oh and for the record i wont watch Lesters 2 & 3 or number 4 either.

Superman: The Movie 10/10

Superman Returns 10/10

Thats the end of it :supes:

I thought I'd post this query since most of us are Chris reeve fans.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the Superman Returns film and how would you rate the Superman The Movie?

SUperman: The Movie.
7/10. Really, good but definitely had areas too improve. Still it is the best live action SUperman film ever made.

SR
0/10. The only reason this doesn't go into the negative is b/c it had good special effects and action sequences.

Also, did you like SR as much as you expected, more than you expected or not as much.

I expected to hate SR and I did. So in a weird way all my expectations were fulfilled. So in a bizarre way it succeeded? The only reason I saw it was I was hoping against hope that there would be a secret hidden villain reveal at he end with Mr. Myxzptlk being the cause of all the stupidity in the film. Unfortunately, it just turned out to be Singer.

What are your expectations for a sequel of SR?
[/quote]

I expect not to see it if Singer is involved and if it maintains the continuity from SR.

Dude i like you! Perhaps you'd like to join me in protesting against a singerman sequel?

Superman: The Movie - 7/10
Superman Returns - 8/10

What do I want for the sequel? Well, I want some more post-crisis, modern interpretations integrated in. Nothing drastic - I don't want it to be totally different from SR - especially since I enjoyed it so much - but just enough where we can see some growth in the interpretations of the characters and universe.

Superman: the Movie - 8.5/10

Supercreep Returns - 1/10

Even though I actually like Superman Returns, this is why I don't take it as a proper sequel, it's set nearly thirty years later, Lois and the rest of the cast look completely different, parts of the story like you just mentioned don't quite fit. I just see it as a new adaptation that uses people's knowledge of the first two films and carries on a new story, just so Singer doesn't have to do the origin again. Like if a new comic book title started up called Superman Returns, you wouldn't have to explain his origin, because everyone knows who Superman is.

Superman: The Movie 9.5/10
"Superman" Returns 5.0/10

STM still reigns, even with its flaws, as the best Superhero film of all time. Spiderman-2 ranks a close second with Batman Begins rounding out the top 3.

S:TM 9/10.
S.R. 7 1/2 to a 8/10....(same with B.B.)

Yeah, well said. For me Superman: The Movie will always be the greatest Superhero film, and it's about the greatest Superhero. :super:

Superman the Movie - 9 out of 10
Superman returns - 7.5 out of 10
(Batman Begins - 10 out of 10)

Superman The Movie - 10/10 :super:
Superman Returns - 10/10 :super:
