How are they going to explain the names? Even if they place the story in the US (where you can find names and last names from all over the world), it would be kinda hard (for me at least) to believe that they can all of a sudden find people with names like Goku, Gohan, Bulma and Yamcha.

Maybe this is not as important as it looks, but im starting to think this can tell us something else about the country (more like universe) they are placing the story on. We know we are not going to see any talking animals (Yay!!!), but i wouldnt be surprised if we see some funny looking architecture and techonology (remember the kind of buildings and vehicules that could be seen on Dragonball Manga and Anime). Then it would make more sense to see names and lastnames we cant find in ... well... our reality.

It takes place in a fictional world not the United States.

There's really no need for this thread.. I see it being closed soon

This movie takes place in a world where green aliens try to capture mystical balls that summon a wish granting dragon. . .

Um My green friends and I are often looking for balls or chasing dragons...at least we did back in the environmentally-friendly, gay-positive, heroine-induced 90's...good times.

Um, the Dragonball movie takes place in modern times. whereas the manga took place somewhere around 700 AD.
I'm pretty sure they're going with the states for the movie.

Dragonball takes place in a futuristic prehistoric world. There are dinosaurs, but there's also advanced technology like capsule corp.

The timeline is confusing.

Yes well 20th Century Fox is known to screw up with these kind of things.

It's been confirmed that the movie takes place in a futuristic, yet oriental inspired world.

I doubt they'd ruin that by setting it in America. Actually it would be pointless to even mention a specific name to where the characters are.

Dinosaurs have been removed and I am actually happy about that because it was ******ed idea of Akira to put those since these series are based in future and yet there are dinosaurs roaming around.

Critics easily take away points if stupid stuff like that is happening in the movie.

Im glad the romoved dinosaurs from this film...I`ll be surprised if we see great ape Goku

lol i wouldnt mind if they kept the dinosours in it
would be funny

Who cares what critics say?. They suck.

Yes they do suck but positive reviews do help a lot. Ex: IRON MAN

that flick was awesome both for fans and non fans and is on track to 300 million. Hell narnia 2 opening looks so weak compared to iron man 3rd weekend which is 30+ million.

Clearly the makings of a Chris Nolan film.
