One Year Later: The SM3 Reunion Thread

Yeah, Gamemeister said he saw the SM3 novel at a book store in England I think, and that it was the only one. He then proceeded to explain some details of the book:

- Spidey got a fake black suit...then a real black suit LOL :woot:

- Harry sacrificed himself by plowing into Venom with explosives

- at the end of the book, rubble shifts where Venom and Harry exploded, hinting that one of them is alive

So basically...a bunch of crap. I was stupid enough to believe him at first, however, to my credit, this was before he released any of these weird details, and he was an established poster since 2004. So I thought to myself, why would anyone who's been on the site for this long, with over 500 posts make up BS like this?

And then the whole "I don't have a camera, or a scanner and myself is broken" crap started. So we told him to call a friend. "Oh my friend doesn't have any of that stuff either." LOL :woot:

Then, when he finally said he was uploading it, he turned around and blatantly admitted that he was faking everyone the whole time, and that he was also posting as another user on this board. He listed the possible other users, and to my dismay, I was one of them. LOL :woot: Oh man, fun times. I sent him a few nasty PMs, and then got into some issues with the mods. Everything was sorted out, and the mofo was banned.

Those were the days man. Good times...good times. ;)

I really do miss the hype alot. I can honestly say that, without a doubt,Spider-man 3 was the most anticipated film of my entire life. I doubt anything will ever come close.:sym::venom::spidey:

Indeed, I remember the boards and the opening. I saw SM3 between getting fitted for my tux and a wedding rehersal. My buddy, the groom, had a good time telling everyone that I screamed "Topher Sucks!" at the top of my lungs during the credits, for all the theater to hear.

One year isn't nearly enough time for my anger to subside. I still want to grab Lazy Sam and Bird-chested Blowphie by their heads and ram them together.

Aww, Spider-Man 4. Can't wait.

Expect news this summer, even small news. The hype will begin.

I was just looking through the early pages of the rate the Black Suit thread. Cute, no one knew **** lol.

Agreed! I can't wait for the hype to start!

Same here. I love that whole feeling of excitement and anticipation we all get. The Hype lagging like hell..Good times.

I finally got around to watching the movie. It ended like 20 minutes ago. Aww. I always get so sad for Harry and his death at the end. I got teary-eyed this time around. & when Peter hit MJ..I get pissed at him but then cheer for him later on. Damn his lovable self!:cmad::o:heart:

So many memories! As hyped as I was for Spidey 2, I think I was one billion times more so for Spidey 3. I had these forums set as my homepage, and I would be on here almost hourly hoping for new tidbits.

Moments that come to mind:
- Sony releasing the first black suit picture. Everyone getting so excited and then (of course) complaining that it didn't look like the comic black suit.
- Getting a teaser trailer a year in advance! Seeing Tobey ripping off the black suit even before they added any CGI to it still gave me goosebumps.
- Of course, the Villain speculation. Topher is playing Elecro! No, Chameleon!
- Sony promising the first picture of Venom near comic-con. Everyone freaking out and then they released the Topher silhouette undergoing the transformation. Still cool, but of course we were all a bit disappointed.
- Praying that someone would have recorded the early Venom footage from CC. And they did!
- The mysterious "Q&A" that appeared without warning and turned out to be pretty much bang on. Everyone doing reverse detective work to match up set photos with info from it.
- Hyping with you guys each time we got a trailer! I love analyzing them frame by frame with all of you! There was the teaser (leaked in spectacular cam-job fashion of course), Trailer #1, leaked Trailer #2 that never saw the light of day as a finished product, real Trailer #2 (clocking in at nearly 3:00) and the little mini Venom central #Trailer 3.
- The seven minute preview! Watching it again and again and again.
- Someone leaking the final battle in Spanish/Italian (?) only a few days before release! Swearing to myself I wouldn't watch it...but of course I did! "Ciao, Parker!"
- The reviews starting to come in, and the tomato-meter gradually dropping. I was totally floored when it dropped out of the 90's, and then the 80's, and didn't go back up.
- Finally, getting to the IMAX and waiting those many hours and finally seeing it.
- S-M 3 smashing every single opening weekend/day domestic box office record! It lost alot of BO legs due to bad WOM, but those records still stand!

After so many many viewings, yes it has it's flaws, but I still love it! It gets way more crap than it deserves, and I still lovingly accept it as part of my favorite comic trilogy ever.

Can't wait for S-M4 with you guys! Though I just can't see the hype being any bigger than it was for 3, but hopefully I'll be wrong!

Remember what, according to Gamemeister, caused Peter to remove the symbiote?

Symbiote Spider-Man supposedly broke some crook's leg and made an old lady scream. No lie, its exactly what he said. I think old GM was out to hoax us from the begining and used the 3 year wait to gain solidarity so that his claims wouldn't be dismissed outright.

Damn! They found out!

RUN!

Too bad I have no idea what nefarious plot I have just "found out." :(

Movie? What movie? I don't recall a Spider-Man 3 ever having been made :o.

Seriously though, over a year later, and I still feel like someone should be hanged for the massacre of my favorite character.

Yes, my sister, embrace the hate!:up::up:

Wow over a year has passed!

I remember signing up for the spidey site around the time of SM2 and completely forgetting about it. One day a pic of sandman appears in my inbox and I ended up here :)

Good times indeed.

I was lucky enough to go to the press screening in london and I remember coming out of the cinema pumped - I came straight on here and answered around 100 pm's (after proving I actually went to see it ).
Afraid to say though since then Ive watched it time and time again and it just doesnt live up to the others in the series.

Its a shame, but I take comfort in the fact that I got to see a spiderman trilogy in my lifetime, and the fact that they made some large dollars!

Well I'm not going to sit here and remenice much about my veiwing experience of SM3. I remember enjoying the movie greatly, if being somewhat disappointed it wasn't as good as the first two and then all six of the people I went with hating it. I saw it again the next day with another group of people and a few really liked it, I decided it was enjoyable, but messy and disappointing.

ONE YEAR LATER

Well I watched it once when it first came on DVD and not really since then. I've spent a year listening to people whenever it comes up hating on the movie usually for one of three reasons: a) The hair cut. b) The dancing scenes (all 3 minutes combine worth of 'em). and c) Not enough Venom.

I kind of began accepting SM3 as a bad movie.

Then I watched all three movies this week, one each day, to view them as a trilogy which I had not done yet. In all honesty, people OVERREACTED with their hatred to SM3. I can list a number of problems with the movie from its uneven pace, awkward sense of stoytelling after the one hour mark and particularly after Venom was born. I think while the dance scenes were very funny, the street strut was too-over-the-top and tonally hurt the movie and should have not been there and the second should have been toned down.

But with that said, as a whole it is a decent movie. Not a great movie, not a very good one either, but also not a bad one. It is extremely entertaining and unlike most summer movies (FF movies, X3, Transformers, Pirates sequels, etc.) that have been released recently, it is satisfying as part of a trilogy. Yeah, that can be viewed as another weakness in that it cannot stand on its own like SM2 can, which is true. But in that lens, seeing how Sam wraps up the Harry subplot and GG saga, Peter's immaturity and mistakes being visually manifested in his dark "what if" side with Venom and Peter and MJ growing up and getting through real (petty) relationship problems which aren't unbelievable, just not likable and not expected in a summer movie fare...it succeeded on that level. The introduction of Venom late does not bother me, he is not my favorite character and it told the story well. Yeah I still wish the street strut was gone, that Peter did not cry on the bridge (the others didn't bother me), Harry's blackmailing of MJ not being so contrived, the team up and butler scenes not being so silly, etc.

But it still is a decent movie and seen as the conclusion to the first two I think is enjoyable. I see it as the Temple of Doom or Return of the Jedi of the trilogy (though those other two are better) or the BTTF2. It isn't as good as the other two but it has enough of what made the other two great and continues/ends the story well enough that I liked the movie.

The hate is ridiculous and a reaction to overhype for nothing that would live up to it and when they realized the movie had flaws it received hate. Still, despite its problems it has more humanity and wit to make it enjoyable enough to revisit ocassionally combined with the first two movies that holds it above most popular summer movie fare (I'm looking right at TF and POTC3 here).

I retract my statement about no good superhero trilogy. It is not perfect, but it is damn good. I'm sure Nolan can and will surpass it, but for my money this worked and it is a shame fans will refuse to see that. My guess is the next generation who grows up with these as a trilogy will like SM3 without realizing its flaws just as we did ROTJ and TOD.

My 2 cents.

Oh, I remember the hype. Whew, it was crazy.....I miss it. :yay:
Not so sure I'll be following so closely, but I'm sure they'll do a fantastic job of reeling me in with another teaser poster. I won't be able to resist. :venom:

One year later and I have two words: Iron Man. Forget webs, repulsor blasts FTW :D.

Seriously tho, SM3 was good in pieces but not as a whole. Lots of great scenes, lots of not so great scenes, which put as a whole are not as good as separately. But it wsnt a horrible movie either. They should have just saved Sandman for the 4th one with Lizard and let the black suit, Harry, and Venom be the main attractions of SM3. Either that or shouldv done what we were all speculating back then regarding the church Venom scene being the final scene of SM3 that set up a 4th movie xD. I sigh at what could have been...

Ah the memories of the days when this movie was being made. So many fun times. We really attracted some colourful characters back then. Best memories for me are:

- There's something in Spidey's eye in the black costume poster. People were actually banned because they got so nasty in their insistence that there was something significant reflected in the eye. Hilarious.
- Complete denial from people about Sandman being Uncle Ben's killer. I remember one guy swearing he'd lose all faith in the comic book movies industry or something if that happened. And how he knew Sam Raimi would never betray the fans by doing that. I think he got banned, too, after we found out it was true. Made a thread about it and everything. There was fireworks.
- Bruce Campbell was playing Quentin Beck. Yeah right!
- Black Cat was going to be in the movie. Wow, that was fun. Chloe Sveigny said she auditioned for the role of "A blonde, buxom villain". The forum went nuts.

Yes, these times were my favourites.

Lol, i remember ALL of that! Remember some of the bile that was spewed forth at the thought of Topher Grace as Venom? Symbiotica went nuts, lol...

i watched SM3 again recently and still enjoy it. It had a few questionable moments, but many more great moments. Cant wait for the ball to get rolling again with SM4 and/or 5! :spidey:
