Mystery/Thriller Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)

LOL well Selena is a billionaire so I don’t think she really needs this show at this point.

Anyway I watched the first couple episodes and really enjoyed it and I liked the spotlight on NY’s doorman culture. It dawned on me that is kind of a NY-specific thing; obviously apartment buildings have desk assistants everywhere but in NY it’s a whole other kind of job and kind of a lost profession in most other cities.

One thing that doesn’t work though is having flashbacks to young Lester when using the same actors for mostly everyone else. It’s like no one aged but him. Which is especially weird since old Lester is clearly an old man. It’s a bit distracting and takes you out of the show.

That struck me as odd too. When they first showed the younger actor, I figured we were going back to something ‘70s-ish. And then out came baby Selena Gomez, and THEN they started talking about Y2K, with that same guy who looked early thirties at most.

At first I thought it was an artistic choice, that his cheerful demeanor and aspirations kept him feeling young until one day he would look in the mirror and realize he was an old man. But… nope.

The REAL murder in the building happened at 30 Rock with Martin Short eviscerating Jimmy Fallon. :o

The show doesn't need her either. Her wooden acting drags the whole thing down. I'm still sticking with it for Steve Martin Short but she's become excruciating to watch.

Oof. Agree to disagree on that one. I really like her on it.
And that's fine. I know I'm in the minority since she did get an Emmy nomination for it but I just don't see it. I never really have, and that goes back to Spring Breakers. I'm just not a fan of her as an actress.

I think she benefits a lot from being the straight man of the trio, but it’s not hard to imagine a number of more skilled young actresses making more of a meal out of the role than she has.

She’s not horrible, but she really only seems to have one setting and sticks to it at all times.

LOL yeah I can’t defend anything in Spring Breakers. I try to forget that movie exists

Whatever keeps her away from music and yes she married a music producer, so I'm dreading it.
