Bale vs Viggo! :wow:

Affleck is the best fit as Bale's brother looks-wise but I imagine the role is not huge and the scenes they have together will be in flashback since the film is about Bale's character avenging his death.

If Channing gets the role, this will be his 2nd movie with Bale where he is killed. :lmao:

By Bale again hopefully!

I hope all those names get cast and Bale goes Paul Kersey all over their asses.

I think this is the gritty role Kitsch was talking about in the video interview over at CBM.

This project NEEDS to happen, right now.

That reminds me of the story of Bale seeing Viggo in Rome: :hehe:

http://www.popsugar.com/Christian-Bale-GQ-UK-August-1760131

“Strangely enough, I was wandering around Rome recently, I think I was having insomnia issues or jet lag while filming, so I kept going for these late-night walks. I kept seeing this same guy wandering around some evenings, looking a little lost like me. I waved and said hello to him one night — it was f***ing Viggo Mortensen. So it seems the only people who spot me are fellow sleepless actors in Europe!”

Saldana heats up 'Out of the Furnace'

'Avatar' thesp in talks for Relativity drama
By Jeff Sneider

The stars of two of the three highest-grossing pics in domestic box office history may be teaming up, as "Avatar" star Zoe Saldana is in early talks to join "The Dark Knight" hero Christian Bale in Relativity Media's "Out of the Furnace."

Scott Cooper ("Crazy Heart") is writing and directing the gritty throwback to 1970s movies that's based on Brad Ingelsby's script "The Low Dweller." Story follows an ex-con bent on avenging the death of his younger brother as soon as he's released from prison.

Saldana is in talks to play Bale's ex-wife, a waitress who's now married to the town sheriff. Robert Duvall is expected to play Bale's uncle and Viggo Mortensen is circling the role of the villain, while several thesps remain in the mix to play Bale's brother.

Relativity is producing with Ridley and Tony Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio's respective banners Scott Free and Appian Way, as well as Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment. Producers are aiming for a late spring start, though Relativity has not yet greenlit the pic or closed deals with any actors.

Saldana, who recently starred in Sony's action pic "Colombiana" and CBS Films' Sundance drama "The Words," is currently reprising her role as Uhura in Paramount's J.J. Abrams-directed "Star Trek" sequel.

Saldana is repped by ICM, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and attorney Kevin Yorn.

Casey Affleck Frontrunner to Join Revenge Thriller ‘Out Of The Furnace’

EXCLUSIVE: Casey Affleck is poised to join the cast of Out of the Furnace, the Scott Cooper-directed revenge thriller that Relativity Media will put into production later this year with Christian Bale starring. The script, which originated as a Brad Ingelsby spec that sold with Leonardo DiCaprio and Ridley Scott attached in 2008, is finally coming together. Bale plays a guy who’s released from prison and wants only to get his life back and marry his gal. All that changes when his brother is murdered, and the mission becomes revenge. Affleck, I hear, will play the unfortunate brother. Scott Free and Appian Way are producing. Affleck is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

How the **** did I miss this??? This sounds incredible.

While the plot don't interest me that much, the cast that Cooper is assembling for the movie has certainly got my attention.

Christian Bale to film 2nd movie in Pittsburgh region

"The Dark Knight Rises" actor Christian Bale will return to the Pittsburgh region later this year for the production of "Out of the Furnace" in Braddock.

The $45 million movie, set in an Indiana town, features Bale as an ex-convict attempting to return to society, according to film website IMDb. "Out of the Furnace" is also scheduled to star Robert Duvall. The announcement was made Tuesday by state Rep. Paul Costa, D-Allegheny, whose district includes Braddock. Costa said that the production will last about 16 weeks and will be released sometime in 2014.

It will be the second movie in less than a year with a southwestern Pennsylvania setting for Oscar winner Bale, who portrayed the Caped Crusader and Bruce Wayne in the Christopher Nolan "Batman" trilogy. Pittsburgh was the setting in July and August for the production of "The Dark Knight Rises," which will be in theatres in July 2012.

"Out of the Furnace" will employ as many as 250 people during the production and will use the Pennsylvania Film/TV production tax credit.

"I am excited about the job opportunities this film will bring to Braddock," Costa said in a statement. "I have no doubt that the film tax credit provided incentive for the production company to film here and it continues to provide incentive to bring films, which equal jobs and revenue, to Pennsylvania."

Ingelsby was a 27-year old AFI grad who was working for his father’s insurance business and living with his parents in Pennsylvania in 2008 when Relativity Media ended his sales career by paying him $650,000 against $1.1 million for The Low Dweller, a gritty revenge thriller that came with Ridley Scott attached to direct and Leonardo DiCaprio to star. It took a couple of years, but Ingelsby has become one of the hot writers in town, even if Scott and DiCaprio are now limited to being producers. That script, now retitled Out of the Furnace, has Crazy Heart‘s Scott Cooper attached to direct, with Christian Bale attached to play the lead role of Slim, a man released after serving years in prison for murder, and who only wants to follow through on his promise to marry his long-suffering girlfriend (Zoe Saldana). That’s until his brother (Casey Affleck) gets murdered after getting involved in a gambling racket, and it becomes all about revenge. Forest Whitaker is circling the role of a sleazy bookie, while Billy Bob Thornton is mentioned as a possible the lead villain. While I keep hearing that Relativity Media is looking for a partner to share production costs, it sounds like the movie might finally happen.

'Batman' Bale visits Beaver County

KOPPEL -- If Christian Bale plays a convincing steel-town dweller in "Out of the Furnace" we maybe should thank the workers at a Koppel mill.

Bale spent Friday morning job-shadowing employees of the IPSCO Koppel Tubulars mill.

This was no mere walk-through by the Oscar-winning actor.

"It was pretty intense," said Rob Betters of Ambridge, one of the mill workers whom Bale studied. "He was heavily focused and seemed very interested in preparing for his role. He asked a lot of questions about steel mill life and the middle class and the wages we make, so he could develop his character. He seemed enthused to be stepping into the role."

Bale is top billed in "Out of the Furnace," a revenge thriller set in Pennsylvania. Directed by Scott Cooper ("Crazy Heart") the plot revolves around an ex-con Slim, (Bale), who after his release from prison tries to settle down quietly in a steel town with his longtime girlfriend (Zoe Saldana). When a loved one is murdered, Slim seeks revenge against the villain, whom numerous websites report will be played by Billy Bob Thornton. Casey Affleck, Robert Duvall and Forest Whitaker also have been in talks to appear in the film, planned for a 2014 release.

Bale and Cooper are scheduled to return to the Koppel mill in several weeks for filming. Other scenes will be shot in Braddock.

Bale, Cooper and the film's locations and photography staffers watched the Koppel mill workers melt and produce steel, then headed to Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant in Big Beaver for a late lunch.

The conversation loosened up there, with a few of the mill workers teaching Bale how to speak the local lingo.

"We got into 'yinz' and 'dahntahn' and 'worsh your car,'" Betters said. "He practiced saying it. I think he got a kick out of it."

Bale told Betters he had a great time filming "The Dark Knight Rises" last year in Pittsburgh, though it was the depth of the "Out of the Furnace" script that brought him back to town.

Not many onlookers outside the mill or at the restaurant interrupted Bale, who perhaps reflecting his "Slim" character looked leaner than in his Batman movies.

"He stopped and gave some autographs and posed for pictures, but for the most part he was focused on our production," Betters said.

It was no typical day at the mill for a hot-metal crane operator like Betters.

"It's unbelievable that an A-list star was in Beaver County where I work," Betters said. "It's wild."

This sounds like the same movie as Faster, only with a better lead actor. Oddly, that movie also featured
Billy Bob as the villain.

So is Viggo out? Is it me or is he getting too picky?

No word on the villain yet. Also, it sounds like Scott Cooper made some huge changes in the script. All the character names even changed.

I love Woody! So I guess Vigo is out...What's up with Vigo? He turns down roles left and right now.

Awww yeah, Woody will make an awesome villain. I'm glad it's not Billy Bob, because that would make this movie TOO similar to Faster.

And being consciously connected to Faster wouldn't be flattering to this film.

I remember one of the movie sites (either Deadline or THR) saying that the reason that he backed out of SWATH was because of money disagreements. Personally, I think he's just being picky.

Yeah, his attachment worried me a bit. Not that he won't be great but because of the reason you mentioned.
