The poster made me smile in a good way :D
i want this now

Dark and gritty reboot right there.

Will the Weinstein's cut out twenty minutes in order to sell it to more people?

Excellent. Another shameless, cash grab, banking on nostalgia and "name recognition".

The original cut of paddington was considered too cerebral for American audiences so they added a cameo appearance by rob Schneider as an excitable vagabond.

If lord Nigel Tiddlywinks isn't in the movie I'am going to blow a gasket.

Every movie released by a studio is a cash grab. Even if the creators behind it do it completely out of love/passion, the studios release it for... money.

Yes. The movie business is a business. We all understand that.

The constant milking of children's books and other similar properties (The Dr. Suess books, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Where the wild things are, etc...), which all, without fail, bastardize the source material and bank almost solely on name recognition and the nostalgia of the collective consciousness is the true definition of a cash grab.

There is no shortage of badly adapted material out there to choose from. What's one more? All we can hope for is they don't completely ruin whatever it is they're adapting.

i want to see this because my family use to rent the vhs tapes for these from the local video store. ahh memories.

What's one more? lol. You know things are in a dismal state when people start saying this.

There's a bit of a difference in adapting a full length novel with enough of a narrative to fill 2 hours (Harry Potter or Jason Bourne for instance), and a 20 page children's book which needs to be loaded with unnecessary filler and convoluted backstories, etc... which all but destroys what made the book wonderful in the first place, which is the perfect simplicity. Not everything needs to be made into a feature length film.

While I agree that not everything needs to be made into a feature length film, this movie does nothing to hurt the original story you apparently hold so dear to your heart. They have been making movies based on books, fairy tales, and other stories since the beginning of the film industry. It's not like it's a new thing. As long as people keep going to see them (and presumably enjoying them), they will keep getting made. If it's not for you, then don't see it. You kind of sound like the critics and bloggers who complain every time a movie based on a comic book comes out, like it is threatening the integrity of the film industry. Just don't see it. Some will love it. Some will hate it. No one will be forced to watch it with a gun pointed at their head.

Dark and gritty reboot right there.

The Brown family is going to have to rescue Paddington Bear from all the prostitutes and pimps at Paddington Station!

(FYI the areas around Paddington Station in London are well known for Prostitution for decades)

Dare I say it? I shall. Battleship. They took a board game with even less story and narrative to it and made a movie out of it. 20 pages is excessive in contrast.
