Gwyneth Paltrow Returns To Big Screen In "Iron Man"

Los Angeles, CA (BANG) - Gwyneth Paltrow is set to star in the upcoming "Iron Man," based on the comic book series.

The mother-of-two is set to play Virginia "Pepper" Potts, the executive assistant to Iron Man's regular alter ego, billionaire industrialist Tom Stark.

The 34-year-old will star alongside Robert Downey Jr. - who will play the armor-clad hero - in the Jon Favreau-directed film, due to be released in May 2008.

Kevin Feige, president of production for Marvel Studios, said, "Gwyneth is the embodiment of a leading lady. She brings intelligence, poise and an incredible range of talent to this role."

Meanwhile, Paltrow's husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, is a huge fan of the Marvel superhero and has reportedly dished out on hundreds of copies of "Iron Man" comics to help his wife research her character.

Good to know Paltrow will now be doing her homework for the role. Nice find.

I know she likes the Brits and she's even played a role or 2 where she affects an English accent, so seeing as how Pepper was English in the animated IM, I wonder if she'll play it this way too.

Nice to see she's reading up for the part, also nice to see Chris Martin is a fan of old Shellhead, great find.

Great that she's doing her research. I wish all actors working on movies in this genre did the same.

P.S: As long as her partner keeps his music away from this flick i'm okay with him being a fan.:woot: :cwink:

After reading this bit about Chris being an Iron Man fan, I would be pretty shocked if Coldplay didn't contribute a song to the soundtrack. I wouldn't mind if it played in the credits. I *would* mind if it appeared in the move... I prefer theatrical scores to rock music in movies.

^ if the movie ends on a sombre and dramatic note Coldplay is perfect for the credits! music to slit your wrists too (lol I forget who said that)....

Tony*

^^^

That would be dumb and I doubt Marvel would let Favreau to do this. There is no need in Tom as replacement for Tony ;)

Im not really a fan of Paltrow and I cant even remember the last movie of hers that I have seen but I will reserve my judgement.

I have to admit that I'm still not thrilled at Paltrow's casting; I know she'll be fine, but there were alot of other... more interesting... choices that could have been made. It's just very encouraging they sunk the money into someone with her resume and put her in a supporting(?) role.

i'm not big on her casting either but at least she's researching the character and not going in completely blind or dumb

Seems like this has become an industry trend of sorts with respect to comic based movies. Its always encouraging to hear the actors taking their roles seriously enough to do some research into the characters. I wonder if this was at the studio's behest or if she took the initiative on this one....
