Paramount/Dreamworks sides with HD-DVD in the Hi-Def war

Did anyone see where Bay has back peddled and is maybe going to do Transformers 2. I bet the Godfather Speilberg told him if he wanted to work in this town again make the movie get over the dvd crap.

More then likely Bay was offered a cut of that $150 Million. Speilberg is a Blu-Ray Fan Boy.

Considering Spielberg is pro-Blu, I doubt that was the case.

Or more likely, Bay found out that he can release TF on Blu-Ray in 18 months, and by then the hype train for Transformers 2 will be well underway. So in the end, it's more of an annoyance than an actual loss.

The PS3 is now gonna have a DVR in it,that feature will make even more people want to buy it which will help Bluray even more.

so is this the big news that has been banded about the internet sites about the BDA? nothing spectacular really.so its another box/add on to plug in and have in the av rack :whatever: i`m interested to see what shape it will be because its not like you can put it ontop of the ps3 with its oval shapings either.add to that i hope you can play games and record at the same time as if not then what would be the point ?

the crazy thing is the ps3 is a games console and its games are either crap or already better on the 360 lol.if there was any proof needed that sony are using the ps3 as a stealth weapon to corner the HD market place then there is no better example.if i was sony i would be less worried about a dvr (arent these already abundant and cheap as hell ?) and get there arse in gear about getting some bloody good AAA titles for the games console.the ps2 was a great, great machine but the ps3 is a jack of most trades and a master of none imho.whats really worrying is that tehre standalone blu ray players take forever to load a disc while the ps3 takes less time and is half the price, another stealth move:hyper:and isnt this dvr for europe only first ?

There are plenty of potentially AAA titles in developement for PS3. But I'm not sure if you're aware how videogame developement works, because it takes a heckuvalot longer than a couple of weeks to make one. :o

Xbox 360 had a year's head start, so developers already know how to utilize it, and it's already got a steady flow of software. PS3 isn't even a year old yet, so give it a frickin' chance before you go laughing about how "it suxx0rz" and "has no good games LAMLAMLAM!" Xbox 360's first 9 months weren't much better, if history is to be believed.

i think what it needs is AAA exclusive as (like you said) the 360 was out the traps quicker and has got a really good fothold in the gaming world already.and if you already have a 360 and the games are multi format would you wanna spend another $400 dollars to play madden 2008 at 30fps ? very, very doubtfull.why were they so slow getting development kits out ?

10 million consoles sold is not a lot. There were about 160 million sold combined last generation, so obviously a lot of people are still on the fence about which to buy. It's not a question of whether PS3 is worth buying to someone who owns a 360. It's about whether or not it's worth buying to the 100 million + gamers who haven't weighed in yet, most of whom probably won't buy a new console for at least another year, when the real video game arms race begins.

Anyway, I'm not really sure what this has to do with Paramount signing a $150M deal to cease Blu-Ray production for the next 18 months...

taken from another forum but i would be interested to know what you think of the below comment tim

"HD DVD specs are set in stone. I can only think Paramount were hoping Blu-Ray would stabilise, but in reality it's too much of a risk financially to have to deal with a moving target.

I mean if you buy a standalone Blu-Ray player today you have no guarantee that it will play* all the features on future Blu-Ray discs.

* - and I mean play not just "support" as in it will tolerate the new features but not really play them or work well."

?

SWEET! Lets compare a console generation which has been around for 2 years to one around for 7. No duh the majority of people who had bought a console last gen havent bought one yet! Tim, the sky is blue as well. Its not whether they are on the fence or not for the console, but for the apps. Right now, the public is speaking. Its hardcore console is the 360 because of the apps, and the Wii for the common man. The WiiSixty is the PS2 of this gen. Like TJS said, the PS3 is a jack of all trades, master of none. Sony gets by through saying they have Blu Ray, DVR, etc..., but when you mention the apps, we get stuff coming out in a year, and delayed 3rd party apps. This is a much bigger blow than you think, Tim. You claim that 18 months is no time whatsoever to wait for Transformers on Blu Ray, but what POTENTIALLY happens if WB moves to HD. You have a cheaper product, now more titles? Seriously man, come on. Cheaper with a better selection? Sounds better than more expensive with less titles. Its like Joe Schmo who goes to Wal Mart to get an HDTV. You get presented 720 or 1080. While we can see the difference, does Joe? Not at all, and its $400-$800 cheaper, so what does he do? Now, HD DVD looks pretty damn similar to Blu Ray. Whats to stop him from doing the same with it?

I know HD is in the corner, but now its got a Big Daddy frrom Bioshock on its side, and the Big Daddy is pissed. Toshiba is using the same tactics that Sony has been using, so please, Sony Fanboys, stop moaning. Toshiba seems ready to make it. Remember, Sony has never had a major format win, and while they are ahead now, Im not so sure they will be in 8 months. Xmas will be the battlefield for this format war, and the winner of the battle should win the war.

I  you :)

And honestly, you can only tell the difference if you are sitting closer than 1.5x your screen width. If you sit farther than that it will be very difficult to see any difference at all.

agreed.1080 is just a buzz word that everyone clings onto to tell average joe what he "needs" lol.

I  you :)

I read the "Is Blu Ray really..." thread all the time, and the spin on both sides is ridiculous. I mean, fanboys on both sides throw out the most random facts. Listen, with Paramount (and the potentially huge switch of Dreamworks in the deal) switching, it honestly throws a one sided battle into a full fleged war. If the Blu Ray fans cant see that, then they are as blind as sony has been. Im not on either side. Ive got a 400+ selection of DVD's, and dont want to start replacing that. I honestly used to think that Blu Ray would win, but Im not going out to buy anything anymore. I honestly see HD potentially winning if the chips fall right, but vice versa with Blu Ray winning as well.

OT, but I feel stupid for buying the Die Hard movies when they're coming out on Blu-ray. :cmad:
I'll give my DVDs as an X-mas present & get the Blu-rays for X-mas or whatever.....I'm talking to myself. *sigh*

Blu-ray's gonna win this war. HD-DVD will be dead in around 2 years or atleast very, very small.

There's no way Transformers will outsell Spidey 3 or POTC:AWE, Transformers had the same mixed-reveiws as those two. If there's any movie that'll outsell those three it'd be Ratatouille. (Hey, Nemo & Incredibles did)

Transformers' has biggest July 4th gross in history :woot: you might not like the film and thre reviews may have been mixed but you cant argue with the takings at the box office :word: i could post the gross intake if you like ;) the US gross alone for transformers is $5,849,647

taken from the link below

""Transformers" took in an estimated $29.1million on July Fourth, crushing the previous record of $21.9million set in 2004 by "Spider-Man 2."

and imho the spiderman series was great up untill number 3,even with venom in the film.in just seemed long winded and overdrawn..

the problem with disney on blu ray is i find it hard to believe that parents are going to buy a $450 console or $600 standalone just for there little darlings to watch a film in HD.chances are they already have a dvd player in there bedroom and the parents wont want to watch nemo or ratatouille 5 times a day,so what happens? it gets bought on SD DVD and they get it in there bedroom.plus you then need a hd tv to get the best out of it,

oh and here is the worldwide takings for shrek 3 aswell

Worldwide: $479,467,267 OUCH,lol.

Seems Paramount might be cancelling some of their already announced Blu-rays, including Blades Of Glory, The Jack Ryan Collection, and Top Gun Collector's Edition.

There's no "might be" about it.

All Paramount Blu-rays are no longer being made. This includes future AND past titles. The 33 Paramount/Dreamworks Blu-rays that have already been released are no longer being made, and once they're sold out they're gone for good.

Ironically, this subtraction in available titles on Blu-ray just put HD DVD in the lead as far as Title Selecton goes :)

I never said I didn't like Transformers. I wasn't excited at first but I want to see it. I'm just saying it all 3 movies had same mixed-reveiws, hell almost every movie this summer did.

Transformers seemed to get much better reviews than SP3 did...didnt it?

Not from what I read. Same 2-3 stars, same B grades. Etc...
