Transformers Transformers on HD-DVD Only?

We don't know anything about the conditions of Toshiba's deal with Paramount, but there's probably a way to get out of it if Paramount decides it really was a mistake.

The two studios may have left themselves wiggle room, however. Paramount’s agreement to use only HD DVD is limited to only 18 months. And Paramount noted that no films directed by Steven Spielberg were included in the deal “as his films are not exclusive to either format.” Mr. Spielberg is a co-founder of DreamWorks SKG, a unit of Paramount.

And Chicken Little is on Blu Ray, for what it's worth.

I've been sitting on the fence for the longest time trying to decide whether to get a Blu-Ray player or an HD-DVD player. I currently have an X-Box 360, and was considering getting the HD-DVD add-on.

I don't want to get the HD-DVD only to find out that later on down the line Blu-Ray will win and be the exclusive player.

My brother lives in Germany, and he says a lot of his friends who are techies, prefer the HD-DVD format.

So, I am still confused on which I should get.
I would be willing to bet that they will co-exist with one another just because of the different contracts with different companies.

The only reason people are *****ing about this is because they're Blu-Ray users. Come on, you guys have Disney, Sony and Fox. Stop being greedy.

The Berg's films don't count, his can be on either format...lol!

Don't get either, if you own a PS3 then on to the superior bandwagon...

These unfortunate formats really piss me off, Blu-ray's quality is much better than that of HD-DVDs....sigh...

From what I've heard from supporters of both, the visual quality difference of the formats isn't that large.

It's not a big difference in picture quality. But the movie selection on Blu-Ray is a lot better thanks to having twice as many exclusive backers. Paramount will come back around to Blu-Ray if consumers and filmmakers throw a big enough hissy fit over it. Blu-Ray is still the market leader, and this winter its lead will only get bigger with the arrival of lots of good movies and hopefully cheaper $300 players. HD-DVD is going down, and the faster it does, the sooner we can have Paramount back, along with Universal who was never onboard to begin with.

As soon as more people realize that HD is the way to go, hopefully Disney and Fox will see the error of their ways. ;)

As soon as someone decides to come up with the good idea of making an affordable player that plays it all, or even better, one format that everyone wants to get on board with, then we can all stop *****ing about a stupid war that should never have been on in the first place and move on with our lives. Iraq aside, I think this format war is dumb, :oldrazz:

Sorry, once the words started coming out the pun just happened. But seriously, I'm fine with standard uintil someone decides to hold a gun to my head and tells me that there's no such thing as DVDs anymore. That will be a hard day for me, seeing as how I own around 100+ movies on DVD, and rebuilding my collection for a higher price than even new release standard DVDs is going to hurt, A LOT.

this is indeed the worst thing paramount could do to the fans, i have a blu ray player and im pissed that they would make a decision like this, id understand if they went BR exclusive since its been dominating HD DVD,and because its an overall better format, not only quality but everywhere i go the HD Vs Blu price margin is alway like $5 higher(HD DVD) so im not sure what they mean by its cheaper for the customer.

and lets face it, its not Transformers w/o the tech of BluRay' sound capabilities , horrible decision, i will probably only buy transformer on regular DVD now IF it has a crazy Special Edition, if not, i can wait a year for this stupid contract to pass, or maybe wait a few months when HD DVDs DIE from the ass whipping its gonna get when Spider-Man comes out on Blu

When pigs fly.

Disney and Fox picked the right side. It is Universal and Paramount, who currently support the LOSING format, that need to change. Blu-Ray is winning the war, so they should get all the movies, obviously.

I guess I'm okay with this.

The PS3 upscales regular DVDs extremely well.

True, it does get the job done pretty well. Maybe I will buy the DVD version to tide me over. 18 months will seem like a REAL long time to go without TF, and it's not like $15-20 is going to bankrupt me. I think I may have just suffered from the same knee-jerk reaction as Bay when I heard the news.

By that logic, BD was the loser, the entirety of last year, and FOX & Disney should have switched over.

This is a format war, and it should be expected that sales will tip to BOTH sides. That isn't indicative of a winner or a loser, but who's ahead in the race. It ain't over until someone crosses that finish line.

I'M PISSED MAN, I WANT MY TRANSFORMERS BLU-RAY DANG NABBIT!!! I FEEL LIKE I'M IN A COMEDY MOVIE AND THE JOKES ON ME!!!:(

(SCENE)"YEAH AND THIS ONE TIME AT BAND CAMP A GIRL ACTUALLY LOOKED AT ME, OH MY GOD!!!":oldrazz::D:up:(END OF SCENE/RANT)

that was last year when the flagship player(Ps3) was 6months away from release. in this war, the cost of the actual player doesnt matter, even if toshiba makes a $200 player it wont matter since people dont ask for HD DVD players for christmas, they ask for video games and guess what a ps3 is? and guess what it is WELL equiped with unlike that horrid piece of garbage the 360 has to offer.

and btw, Spider-man is still the biggest movie of the year, and guess who has those rights along with the previous 2, along with every other Super-Hero movie(Which is a huge fanbase)

i mean i myself made the Blu Ray plunge when it came with the ps3,but i also am sticking with blu-ray because evn if Blu Ray loses HD DVD will NEVER get Spidey since its owned by SONY(MAKERS OF BLURAY)

HD is in a losing battle and this agreement will only prolong the inevitable death, and when the sales figures come back for the holiday, Paramount will say WTF did they get themselves into

Blu-Ray kinda sucks, so no.

If that was the case, why is Disney releasing HD movies digitally through Xbox's marketplace?

Besides, winning the war is a laughable concept. It's like saying you sold more lemonade at your stand, so you should be running Coca Cola or Pepsi.

You guys act as if you're not in the lead. The more posts insisting the war was over and you won, the more desperate Blu Ray owners sound. Suck it up, it's 18 months, you'll get a Blu Ray disc when the sequel comes around.

It's like Peter Pan where they tell the audience to clap and if they clap hard enough they'll bring Tinkerbell back to life.

Blu Ray owners are like that. If they insist they've won, and buy 5 discs a piece, reality will change and they'll make HD-DVD disappear. For a supposed winning format, you'd think they wouldn't need to keep insisting they're winners.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. If they're winning prove it, whining only shows how tenuous a lead Blu Ray has.
