Transformers Transformers on HD-DVD Only?

The only reason people are complaining is because they are all ps3 owners. And what do Sony gamers do? They complain. Sorry but its true. Because they are Ps3 owners they are "forced" to watch Blue ray (not saying its bad) because they are not going to go out and buy a HD-dvd player so they are going to get their panties in a bunch when something like this happens because we all know.. most Ps3 owners think Sony is the best=Blue ray is the best because its Sony, if is was reversed and Sony had HD-DVD they would be saying its the best..ect..ect.

The only reason Blue ray sales are so much better is because every ps3 gamer probably has bought a blue ray at some point or probably will.

Perhaps if Microsoft put in a Hd-DVD drive in each 360 at the beginning and increased the price to the un-godly amount the ps3 is and force their customers not to have a choice to have the drive or not then perhaps the sales would be equal.

Both are good, but one has the backing of its own Studio (Sony) and the backing of a generation of fanboys (ps3 players).

Pretty much right on the money. :o

At least when Sony implements new technology, they don't do it half-assed with limited support and red rings of death. :o

That, and I figure two things happened with those who went blu-ray.

1) Part of it is a "one you go hi-def, you never go back" mentality, which is unfortunate, because I dont really understand what's so overwhelmingly great about hi-def formats.

2) Those who went blu-ray threw out their standard players like idiots and now cant play anything but blu-ray, so until they get their movies on blu-ray, its oh so unfair.

Actually, the PS3 did have issues when released. Then they forced Blu-ray down the throats of fans who stuck with them for so long- they exploited the Sony gamer and sacrificed Playstation to peddle Blu-ray since they get a cut of every disc sold.

As for the half-assed thing, Blu-ray players were released with constantly changing specs since release, unlike HD DVD which had consistent (and more impressive) specs since day 1... they've got the special features done right, internet connectivity, and so on. !st generation Blu-ray players don't play some movies and won't play any BD-J special features on discs (so they dicked over their most devoted fans who invested first). New specs are coming in the fall so Sony and the other Blu-ray manufacturers are rushing out the older players so that they don't need to include the new features (Again screwin ya). That's why FOX postponed all their releases for half a year.... troubles figuring out which Blu-ray systems everything will work on. Let's not forget that they've already recalled/reissued Blu-ray titles because the quality was so crappy when released.

Oh yea, and Transformers is coming out on DVD and HD DVD so people shouldn't fret... the HD DVD exclusive thing refers only to the hi def formats.

Oh please, save me the sob story about "SONY is teh evil! They FORCED me to buy BLU-RAY!" Sony made a darned fine piece of hardware, that's what they did. The only issue that plagued the launch was that there weren't enough availible, which history has proven to be a major blow in getting momentum for the system.

Microsoft on the other hand, made a console that is essentially an easy bake oven full of computer parts, but with cooling equipment only half as effective as what is considered acceptable for a computer. And on top of that Microsoft did not even include a hard drive with every unit, and so they would not allowing game developers to make games unless they can be played without a hard drive. But guess what? Microsoft is waffling, and now they are actually considering allowing developers like Rockstar to require a hard drive for games like Grand Theft Auto 4, which means that everyone who bought an Xbox 360 with no hard drive is now screwed. And on top of that, they didn't even include an HDMI port until just recently, which sucks if you're an HDTV owner who wants the best possible picture quality for their TV.

When Microsoft acts like they're so much better than Sony because they offer a so-called "choice," what they really mean is that they offer the choice of spending more money now, or a LOT more money later. The 33% failure rate and the shoddy system design that causes it are an EMBARRASSMENT, and the head of their games division, Peter Moore lost his job because he said more about it than MS was comfortable with people hearing.

So go ahead, paint Sony as some evil corporation for cramming too much technology into one machine, causing the price to go up by a hundred bucks. But you know what? You get what you pay for. A powerful console that can also play Blu-Ray movies, and won't break down just because you forgot to turn the air conditioning in your room on. If you don't like the games selection, then fine, that's a legitimate complaint. But claiming that Sony is somehow immoral for the decisions they made regarding PS3 is quite simply the pot calling the kettle black.

And besides, this thread isn't about which videogame company screws over it's fans worse... It's about Transformers not coming out on the most popular HD movie format, which quite frankly I've gotten over. I will buy the DVD and wait 18 months for Toshiba's exclusive contract with Paramount to expire, and then I will buy the Blu-Ray version. It's an annoyance that I will have to wait that long to see my favorite movie of the year on Blu-Ray, but it's not worth painting picket signs over.

I blame Sony for starting this format war. Microsoft only did HD-DVD to respond to Sony the competition for using Blu-Ray with movies (which I might add no movie has to this day used all of Blu-Rays extra space. There is no reason why that Spider-Man Trilogy could not have been 1 Blu-Ray Disc or at the most Two. If Sony only used Blu-Ray for games I could understand that. But no Sony started this war & the day any studio decides to stop making DVDs that will be the stupidest decision on earth. DVD just recently has sold more DVDs then VHS & the stupid HD formats will not catch on for a good few years or so.

Bzzt! Wrong.

Sony's insistence that everything would be 100% backwards compatible.

Sony's insistence that they could do 1080p, but delivered a downgraded signal forcing players to drop to 480.

etc, etc.

RE: Hard drive. Kinda like Sony did last year. I guess Sony copying Microsoft's last year is innovative. They're now bundling the core units with memory cards, problem solved.

RE: HDMI. If you have a TV that supports it. Much like the HD/Blu Ray stuff, we're not talking about the majority of end users. Personally, I have one, and it's not much difference other than freeing up a component slot.

So, you're saying options are a bad thing. No wonder you want the format war over.

Here's an idea.. you think maybe it's because prices of components can drop and people can get deals on items they didn't initially need, but want later on?

It'd be like SHH charging you $10 to access the board, because one day, you might want to take advantage of their video coverage. Why force that on people? If you want it, great, if not, you're not forced to prop up a failing company that seemingly has no ideas of their own.

As far as Peter Moore, wow you are seriously deluded. Any proof of this, or as usual are you just trolling (which by the way is against the rules)

At least we can mostly agree on this. Hopefully you'll stick around and contribute to the board instead of dragging the board into format/console wars. There's other boards for that.

The backwards compatability issues was fixed within only a few firmare updates, it is a non issue. And the issues regarding HD output is that users with older HDTVs that only output at 1080i cannot view 720p content without downscaling it to 480p, but this is a problem that is only affecting much older HDTVs, and so it is really no where near as big a deal as fanboys want it to be. And if those are the best two examples you can come up with for PS3 having hardware problems, then please do not try to stretch it by adding "etc. etc." at the end, because that just means you have no more ammunition left.

RE: Hard drive. Kinda like Sony did last year. I guess Sony copying Microsoft's last year is innovative. They're now bundling the core units with memory cards, problem solved.

Oh great, so a 50MB memory card is supposed to solve the issue of 6GB of maps, textures, and sound effects not being able to get cached onto an HDD. Brilliant. If a 50MB memory card could compensate for having 9GB of data cache, then maybe Grand Theft Auto 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 wouldn't have been delayed. :whatever:

RE: HDMI. If you have a TV that supports it. Much like the HD/Blu Ray stuff, we're not talking about the majority of end users. Personally, I have one, and it's not much difference other than freeing up a component slot.

HDMI is officially standard on all HDTVs. If your HDTV does not have HDMI, or even DVI input, it's obviously an older model. Anyone buying an HDTV from the last two years to today is going to have HDMI input, and if they're dropping 400 or more clams on a device to hook up to it, the expectation is that it will be able to use HDMI. MS did not adress this until only this year, and they won't even be fully implementing it into all consoles until later this year, when it should have been available at launch.

So, you're saying options are a bad thing. No wonder you want the format war over.

Options are a bad thing when it ends up making the whole experience half-@$$ed. Since Microsoft chose to not include hard drives with some Xbox 360, it's making it extremely difficult to get a lot of games, like Grand Theft Auto 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 to run on it without requiring the hard drive, something that Microsoft will not allow. If Microsoft had not given people the option of buying a gimped, incomplete Xbox 360, then maybe GTA4 and Unreal Tournament (the 360 version, at least), would still be on track to release this year. Sony included everything that they believe a developer could forseeably want with the PS3, with the exception of additional RAM (however, this problem is being increasingly reduced with firmware updates, which are causing the PS3's OS to take up less and less of the available RAM).

At least we can mostly agree on this. Hopefully you'll stick around and contribute to the board instead of dragging the board into format/console wars. There's other boards for that.

I have been a significant contributor to these forums in the past, but if you haven't noticed, the Paramount contract with Toshiba is a big deal, and it didn't take long for it to degrade into pointless Sony bashing. I happen to own a PS3, and like anyone who enjoys the things they buy and support, I do not take very kindly to it being bashed unless I too am allowed my two cents.

OK, ok, ok, lets cool it. Things are getting a little out of hand on this thread. We dont want a flame war on top of a format war, do we?

Oh, you haven't even seen the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD thread in the Sony forum. It's been pretty much non-stop gloating for the last two days. :o

Just saying "no problems at launch" isn't the same as "problems at launch"

So, if you're going to keep harping on and on, at least get the facts straight.

Anyone who's been following things from the beginning knows there's more than two problems, but this is the Transformers forum, not the Sony forum.

So you're saying to forget about compression? Way to encourage poor coding.. no wonder developers are having trouble coding for the PS3. It's the complete opposite of how things have been traditionally done for decades.

Besides, Sony is the reason GTA was delayed :D See also: numerous difficulties programming for the PS3.

Regardless, it's there and LOADS cheaper than the PS3 alternative.

If you want to play the "should have been there at launch" let's not even get into the online aspect that Sony failed at for years.

Options are a bad thing when it ends up making the whole experience half-@$$ed. First off, that's a lie. There's games that require the hard drive.

You say incomplete, anyone logical can see that's not the case.

By all means, but stick with facts and not conjecture. Lose the elitism and blatant fanboyism.

Regardless, people are allowed to post their opinions of Sony's shading past business decisions without fanboys descending and tossing out "M$ this, To$hiba that"

OMG JUST DROP IT. this thing is so stupid. I am so glad I haven't bought into HD yet. I have seen both Bluray and HD-DVD and honestly I don't see a difference. Just waiting on that combo player....

I have never been that much of an HD junkie. I know people who spend thousands of dollars just to get those few extra pixles of HD candy - I've never really seen the point. I still watch DVDs and stuff on my old TV, and I'm perfectly happy with it.

And as a Side note. So this is about HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray. Not HD-DVD vs. Normal DVD.

I've got a solution to help me cope with the next 18 months of waiting for an official TF release on BR. I will buy TF on normal DVD, and then download the HD version and put it on my PS3's HDD. Problem solved (or at least, reduced)! :)

This sucks that this won't be out on bluray,at least for 18 months.
