Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Part 10

There isn't much I dislike about these new designs but the plastrons not being connected on the side is one of them.

The plastrons as a whole are silly. They look like molded muscles and if you follow their various shapes down to they would seem to end on a weird point.

I've long theorized their various pants and loin cloths etc were a hastily added to cover up a problem a problem with how how their big bulky designs translated to live action ie they actors wouldn't be able to walk with full plastrons and shells so they just added pants rather than rethink their big hulking beast approach.

If the DNA infused Mutagen rumor is true then that explains why they have humanoid faces. Therr would have to be human DNA in the Mutagen

There's likely no in-story reason why the turtles have human-like faces. After all the maquettes all had more traditional faces for the characters so I doubt it was ever their intention. It's just a lazy, ill thought way of doing cgi.

If the human DNA thing is in the script it could make a nice fanon explanation although strangely wouldn't explain why Splinter who also presumably also has human DNA doesn't have a human-like face. It also strikes me that in the Fred Wolf show the mutagen originally worked to give the turtles human characteristics and even in things like Mirage book there's long been a fan question of whether TCRI's toxic waste is from the Utroms "skins" hence they would also have human (or close to it) DNA.

To be honest there's a certain charm to the turtles origin that it's shame to mess with but like most super-power origins doesn't really stand to much scrutiny hence the best super hero movies don't focus on them. What's more important than how they do what they do is why they do what they do but it seems that's being massively butchered too.

Speaking on the faces alone, there is no denying that movie-verse wise they are more turtle like than an other MOVIE. Being a turtle owner myself I can tell you some species does have slightly raised noses, it's mainly sea turtles and tortoises that have no nose, only nostrils. I agree about the lips, I've disliked them from day one but I still really like designs and don't think they are bad and many other people feel the same way.

And many don't.

Baring in mind they seem to have toned down the actual noses it seems silly to me to stand by the corner that these are more realistic turtle designs when it comes to the faces when other aspects like their basic anatomy is so unrealistic.

Can we please stop arguing and whining about how the giant, pseudo humanoid turtles look either too human or not human enough?

It's such an absurd complaint for this concept its not funny.

Seriously, if you're looking at those things and seeing "human faces", there's more wrong with you than the designs.

Aren't the visuals important? I mean they want us to watch these designs for 90 minutes. It's not too much to ask they be aesthetically pleasing. Also don't the designs impact the movie itself, afterall now the turtles are super strong for example.

Anyway the designs are only one aspect I dislike about this movie.

I can't lie, this is badass.

Basically Planet of the Apes just set the standard for CG characters in flicks now. Hollywood can afford to have them be actual characters and not just setpieces that are onscreen for a few seconds at a time. After Apes and TMNT I better get my fully CG Thing in FF.

Well it has been rumored that like Transformers the focus of this movie will be the human characters. If the script piece that was included in the Ultimate Visual History is accurate then we're not going to get a proper scene with the turtles until some time in.

Also there's no reason why they couldn't be real characters done with something closer to their standard look. It's not like I'm not advocating going back to animatronics but the over-the-top designs and the awkward implementation of the motion captured faces is pretty off putting.

I'm not a fan of the design for Splinter either but the brief glimpse of Splinter in the rubble of the lair impressed me. It looked plenty expressive and real. Probably because it looked like...well Splinter and not an animal with weird human-like face.

Pretty sure LOTR and Pirates already made that possible...

The reasons why TF and Hulk are handled more in the way you described is due largely in part to other reasons imo.

Also let's not forget Guardians of the Galaxy, Which has a talking anthropomorphized Raccoon, Which looks realistic.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" was fantastic. A four star movie. Probably my favorite of the year so far.

But getting on point....

1. Klank and Zaron good points made.

2. I found this article from Huffingtonpost.com written yesterday. Sounds like people are pretty lukewarm to seeing this movie.

3. The human DNA being integrated with the Turtles' and Splinter's DNA sounds like an awful idea and I hope it doesn't pan out. But hey 'we had to do it in the sake of being different.'

Works better than changing into humanoid turtles as of a result of them being touched by humans and ooze. Actual human dna and the ooze just works better and makes at least a little more sense, as much sense as something like this can make imo. But, to each their own.

Just saw Megan's little ET interview where she did the "Go Ninja, go Ninja go!" hook. :hrt: :D

The preview played before Apes last night. This movie looks pretty dull.

New TV Spot in Low Quality, and its also your first look at the Turtle Van.

I just don't get why they can't put this stuff up online as it's shown on TV.

Makes no sense to me either. Unlike TV, I'd imagine it's absolutely free to put stuff up online.

That being said, I personally don't watch spots and stuff like that. Tend to stop 1 full trailer in(though I watched the other trailers for this cause of how odd they were about their footage).

Did someone recently post pictures of the Crush Soda store displays? I've searched this thread high and low without any luck. There are couple pictures in this threat that won't display for me. Thanks.

From what I've seen so far, I think the humor is on GOTG level. Since the latter has all the hype and goodwill though, I doubt that will matter in the end when they're both released.

:applaud

I know right? The amount of nitpicking about this movie on the internet is probably the most annoyed I've ever been by it for anything ever.

Here's the official Character Video, Its the same footage from the motion Posters, But a look at the footage.
