Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Somebody's a security guard! :p
Yes, I work in the private security industry. I am a security OFFICER ,not guard, at a medical center. Yes this does color my take on it. Stuff like this ticks me off to no end. For example people assume that a massage therapist is a hooker, just because of the stereotype of a "happy ending" that some masseuse give for an extra amount of money,( I have escorted three individuals off site and had to deal with the Vice squad. We have only been open a month and one of those was an attempted rape because he thought that's what she was their for :cmad: ) Or the little girl who dressed/ acts like Paris Hilton to be "cool" and winds up pregnant because she thinks tp be popular you must be a ****e. ( I see this alot as well.)

It is because of movies like this security personnel are not taken seriously, which can lead to more dangerous situations for said personnel.

Now before anyone goes off that I am taking my job to seriously I invite you to try and diffuse a situation involving an individual who is violent, High, and threatening to do bodily harm to the medical staff because they could not get their fix and no "Rent-a-cop" is going to stop them from hurting a nurse so they can break into the pharmacy and take what they want.:bh:

another thing to keep in mind is how much Private security is bleeding over into law enforcement, who checks your bags at the airport, makes sure no one tampers with the goods coming and going from distribution centers, protects our power stations, and makes sure your shopping malls are safe ? That's right.....!

Sorry If I seem a little gung-ho but people really don't realize what we go through for the crappy pay and hours we have to work, all the time getting no respect for it. I mean ask any Police Officer what it's like to be compared to Barney Fife or a Marine to be compared to Gomer Pile.....:cwink:

Whoa, buddy. Back off the shrooms, it's just a movie, I think you'll find most people are smarter than that.

Dude, the same can be said for any profession that has been featured in films. Anything and everything has probably been parodied to some extent, or featured in a horror movie and drama or some ****. I guess, to you, security guards aren't fair game like everyone else?

Agreed. If you've ever laughed at any parody or any satire or any "fun" that was poked at anyone or anything, you've basically got no room to talk.

If you have a problem with how the pubic views security work in general, that's one thing. Don't make it seem like this movie is the reason for that outlook. People have a number of reasons for not viewing security guards in a serious or appropriate light, not just the "funny" portrayals of them.

This isn't a serious movie on any level. It's about a tongue in cheek mall cop who takes himself, and his job, seriously, and must prove himself in this capacity. The fact that it takes a stereotype and makes it funny is what makes it work on any level.

It's a comedy. It's going to make fun of things. You want a serious movie about security guards and what they do, write one.

This is the kind of movie that looks funny when you first see the trailer or ads on tv. Then they play said ads over and over...and over...and you realize how bad it's going to be. I saw it anyway. I was right. It was pretty bad, but Kevin James is likeable, so that alone saved the movie from being terrible.

While true, those other parodies have examples to show the other side of the coin. For instance Delta Farce has Platoon or Police Academy has Glass Shield. While those films are not direct parodies I think you can see where I am going with that thought. I can't remember seeing a serious example of private security, the closest I can remember are the guys from the Dawn of the Dead remake and the too were wannabes.

Whoa, buddy. Back off the shrooms, it's just a movie, I think you'll find most people are smarter than that.

I am sorry if I came off heavy handed. I had just wrapped up a 16 hour day that was only supposed to be 4. Your comment was taken wrong so I apologize.

I can't really agree with this statement, by this logic the old "comedic" portrayals of African Americans is ok because it does the same thing yet they are considered racist.

I will step off the soapbox now.

Ok, I saw it. Only because Defiance wasn't playing ANYWHERE even remotely close to my area. (very odd!?)

I thought it was decent...but so many missed opporunities. I felt the movie took itself too serious at many moments during the film. The "love song" could have opened up some great humor...and I kept waiting for it...but they just took the scenes too seriously. They didn't go far enough...

Overall, i'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. If they had only loosened up a bit in the writing, it would have been a lot more fun.

I thought the movie was very funny. I laughed until my sides hurt.

8.5/10

Cant believe this movie did so well At least Kevin James will have some movie roles thrown his way for a few years

I'm betting alot bought tix for this but snuck into MBV.
Meh...a buddy of mine works for a theater, he said that Paul Blart not only had sold out showings and long lines but the theaters were packed as well.
This was number 1 with almost 35 million dollars. I don't know about people anymore.
Well Kevin James does have a fan base, it wasn't a fluke that "The King of Queens" lasted for nine years. He should have gotten more Emmy noms for that.

Paul Blart #1 movie again bringing in 21 mil, Hotel For Dogs jumps up to #4 and MBV drops pretty significantly to #6 bringing in 10 mil.
