This thread makes me feel like this-

Sorry, that's total BS. The clone saga sucked, and telling fans that the character they've been following for the last 20 years is a fake is a kick in the nuts to the long tie readership that kept Spidey alive in print. And caring about continuity? Sorry, Gobby died, that's respecting classic continuity.

If anything, I'd say the cried wolf thing was more recent. When JMS started, (and was great,) an when Paul Jenkins was at his peak, and JQ was watching the internet, all of the Spider fans *****ed about anything possible after JMS was on for a while, as well as Jenkins being on for longer.

IMO, THAT'S what lead to them trying anything possible. No one had an idea what to do, as at the time fan opinion made no sense. This lead to them all getting fed up, and just doing what the (internet,) fans hated. It worked on USM...

The Clone Saga didn't suck. It was completely based on ASM 150 were Peter throws away the DNA Results. The door was left open from that day on. Continuity was treated respectfully and faithfully during the Clone Saga.

Ben could have been Spider-Man. It could have been reversed way way way later.

Or another book could have been created for west coast Peter Spider-Man. Clones are a very real future issue/predicament, and it was pretty cool that Spider-Man comics were dealing with it in the 70's and again in the 90's.

I prefer a Ben Spider-man with Peter on the West coast fighting crime, with a mystery still of which one is real, then......... Gwen bangng Norman, Peter being a Mystical Warrior, Peter Metamorphising and growing Stingers easting peoples heads, and Peter sharing his ID with the world because all of a sudden he is a big Avengers puss, even though he was never written that way.

Give me a break. (I was one of the people *****ing about Ben Reilly in the 90's, I wish I didn't in retrospect.)

You are Joe Q's pet parrot, aren't you?

No. By no means would I condone a "magical mindwipe" of the marriage. That's about as lame as plot devices can get.

But, I think the reaction among fans, particularly here, has been utterly ridiculous. Gwen and Harry coming back to life? Continuity being rewound all the way back to Amazing Fantasy #15? These are completely baseless predictions (to put it nicely), and people actually take them seriously! People are already crying for Quesada's blood over reviving Gwen; making childish comments like "Jokesada", "Joe Q is on drugs", and "my childhood is being raped."

It's complete and utter irrationality, and I can't help but laugh at it.

He has a point. Pretty good one.

I personally think Joe Q is on crack for saying a single Spider-Man can do things like watch porn. :o

Bringing Gwen back is a bad idea IMO. I agree with tom123, they are messing with something big and that is not a good thing. Gwen's death changed Spidey forever, now that is going to be erased? Thats defenitley not a good idea.

Agreed, I thought that was bad story telling and a really bad way to bring Gwen back. Why would anybody have Gwen have sex with Norman? It really is stupid.

Can anyone point out what this new source is that is leading people to believe JQ and co are gonna completely trash Spidey by resurrecting Gwen? That cover to the comic buyers guide just don't do it for me. It's more likely that's the Goblin twin, or a clone. It's a tease it's gotta be. I would not put anything past him, but JQ has got to understand the significance of the all time classic ASM#121.

I own both 121/122 of "Amazing," and it will suck to the upmost degree if JQ reverses 40 years of Spidey history. It will also suck if Gwen is brought back, because from a collector's view, the value of certain comics will depreciate.

Joe Q doesnt care about the old time fans, times are changing, marvel is changing. Civil War was a sign, it wasnt just a marvel event, it was a sign that the old days of superhero comics are over ( at least for marvel, DC seems to be more or less the same). Civil War was telling us that we are in a new age and its time to start over. Thats why captain america is dead, thats why 90% of the mutant race was wiped out in house of m, thats why tony stark is director of SHIELD, and lastly thats why spider-man is being rebooted. Its all a master plan to completely re-invent and re-shape the marvel universe and basically a way to start over like we were back in the 60's again.

Its all about bringing in a brand new audience to comic books. The same audience who saw all the movies and are watching the new tv shows ( the crappy new fantastic four show and the soon to be crappy spiderman WB cartoon). Basically marvel's telling us old time fans to pack our bags and move on. Depressing isnt it?

And I understand that, but why couldn't they do that without going retro to the 60's????

It's really a copout for uninspiring , lazy storytelling, not new age, kick ass, changing the face of Marvel.

Many of us have always said "Write whatever Spider-Man story you want......as long as you don't piss on continuity or the timeline.....that includes the continuity of Peters' personality and life experiences."

I'm not trying to get specific stories, that's not my place as a reader and fan. But when the writers and editors seem way less versed in S-M comic book history, I get truly embarrassed for Marvel, S-M comics, and for Myself for even caring anymore.

I should just work on completing my collection before the Reboot for the rest of my life, because Reboot and JMS era have had so many technical mistakes, that it's like watching a cartoon that vaguely seems like the original, but is really just a re-write that only touches on the past.

Mainstream Comics are Dead. Superhero Movie Culture rules. Too bad, so sad. :o

The industry can't afford to really lose it's old time fans tho....that's what i don't get....our age group pretty much makes up the comic book industry.

They can't replace us, even if they do gain 100 new young single fans who only enjoy reading single superheroes.....that would only be a drop in the bucket.

Marvel needs to better understand their consumer and how to make them happy.

As I've said before, all these "Amazing" creative team annoncements would have washed down A LOT BETTER without the whole JQ ANTI MARRIAGE AGENDA attached to them. He could've chosen to make things GREAT without having to "FIX" things that aren't broken.

Dangerous: Can anyone point out what this new source is that is leading people to believe JQ and co are gonna completely trash Spidey by resurrecting Gwen?

THe only source that i personally know of, besides the new photo cover...is actually an OLD source. I don't know where it is, but there was a link to it on here and it was talked about in a thread here like a month ago or so. It was from a Newsarama Joe Friday interview i believe, and i did personally read the whole long thing and JQ did in fact mention, a little, something along the lines that "we just may see PEte dating Gwen post OMD". His collegueas in the interview also, pulled JQ aside and the interviewer mentioned they had a mini hush-hush talk and then when he returned to the interviewer, JQ wouldn't say/answer anymore about the Gwen statement he had made or slipped up on/leaked/teased or whatever he was babbling about.

I know they'll break up the marriage, that is more than obvious with enough info backing that up.
As per reviving Gwen, i don't know if he was pulling people's legs or if that is the plan too.

I'd hope he'd respect spidey enough to NOT do THAT. Gwen is great, i love her, but she needs to stay dead.

And please, no more pics of her kissing norman....that should've NEVER been drawn!!!

Well, long time fans, and no disrespect to you Farmer, still keep buying the books. You say "Gwen better stay dead" but you are still reading after Gwen had sex with Norman, had fast aging twins, Mary Jane knew all long, and Gwen created a make believe timeline to pull it all off.

If Gwen can do all that, and "longtime fans" are still reading, then you may as well ressurect her, why the hell not? And I'm not asking a question here, being rhetorical.

It's longtime fans in sheeps clothing that helped create this slippery slope. If they really stopped buying after Sins Past, instead of just *****ing about it, then maybe, just maybe Marvel would have straightened things out. But now they know, they can do whatever they want! Because there are enough Sheep-Longtime fans to keep sales strong enough.

so you all complain and NONE of you has any info?

i do have info though...

first, in this issue, there is NOTHING of any confirmation wahtsoever what will happen...

second, the cover is CUSTOM MADE, that means its not neccesarily what happens in OMD

THIRD: ther eis no movie suit anywhere to be seen-.-

thanks and good night...

I don't think that is the point. The point is Marvel can and will do whatever their heart desires now, continuity or timeline be dam(n)ed.

People are fed up but cannot let go of the past, so they keep taking back the "abusive husband."

It's funny that when every big event is about to happen people post like you just did, that nothing has happened yet............but it always does.

Peter killed Morlan and Ate his Head! Gwen did have sex with Norman but not Peter. Peter DID grow stingers and can now talk to insects. Peter DID become an Avengers b**ch. MJ did know all along that Norman screwed Gwen and had innocent children and said nothing to Peter all these years. Peter is a Magical Mystical Totem Warrior.

This did happen.

The door was left open and was entered by Gerry Conway, who did a nice job of tying up loose ends and finally wrapping up (what we thought) a satisfying ending to the original clone stories in the early 90s in Spectacular Spider-man.
Then the door was kicked down by Bob Harras and the gang years later, then they ripped down the door frame and blew up the surrounding wall when they ruined a classic story and brought Norman back, which is a disrespect to history.
The Clone story had potential, but the result was less then satisfying.

Bringing Norman back at the end IS my point. If they were to make Ben be Spidey on East coast and Peter on west Coast then Norman would NOT have to have been brought back to life as the easy scapecoat, who kills Ben in the end.

It could have remained a mystery, but that last issue was (in a perverted way of course) for the fans, so Ben could be "Smoked" as it were.
