We all not that Peter - AND HIS BELOVED (especially Aunt May) always suffered from the lack of money.
Thus - why he simply started a career as mid-class-athlet (eg. boxing, tennis, whatsoever ... he could do everything) .. and i am saying mid-class (so just enough to earn some decent money, not to be a world champion) ????
and please do not tell me he can not use his powers private for some moral reasons, he does the same with selling pics of spidey, right ??? (meaning he is using being spiderman)

Okay, several things:

First, Spider-Man is hyphenated. I'll probably get called a grammar nazi for this, but it's hyphenated on the cover of every comic, the opening credits of every movie and cartoon, and even the name of the very board you're posting on. It's a petty annoyance, but hey, they're called pet peeves for a reason.

Anyway, selling pictures of Spider-Man and using his powers to win sporting competitions are very different. When selling the pictures, he's not doing anything immoral, nor is he using his powers to cheat anyone else out of money they would have otherwise been entitled to. Pete's long past the stage of using his powers that way, y'know, what with the whole "great responsibility" spiel.

Anyhoo, feel free to take this all with a grain of salt. It's not that I'm calling your fandom into question or anything, it just rubs me the wrong way, so I thought I'd poke a bit of fun. Bottom line is we're both Spidey fans, and we're both here for the same reason, so hopefully my smart mouth didn't totally derail this thread into some needless off-topic flamewar.

Well, if you remember, he tried that; using his powers to make money and that didn't end well. And if I recall, he tried to sell his web formula but none would buy it.

How about we just assume he's been Spider-Man for a while, he takes freelance pics for JJJ, and while he's not dirt poor, he could always use more money.
