Comics Petiton for saving MaryJane in SpiderMan

Mary Jane's not going anywhere permanently. She's one of the rare civilian characters in the Marvel Universe who has "died" and come back. Fan outrage over her death in Byrne's Amazing Spider-Man # 13 was enough to bring her back immediately, and anything they do to her now will be undone with amazing ease once the fans speak up.

It doesn't hurt, but it won't help either. It'll just be a wasted "signature".

Im not so much worried about them killing her off as i am them doing something to tarnish her character.

Sure, if enough fans complain, it may be retconned, but then instead of reading cool new adventures of Spidey and his excellent rogue's gallery, we have to sit through another boring-assed storyarc watching Marvel back-pedal.

And haven't we had enough of that in the Spidey books the past dozen years or so?

I dont even see why Joe Q is making Mary Jane an issue, unless it's more of his "let's piss off the fans" agenda. As i've said before; read the current arc in Sensational Spider-Man for the perfect example on how to fit MJ into the Spidey books. It's not rocket science. Just give her as little side story (doesn't have to be her in peril everytime either), and have that alongside one of Pete's adventures. Hell, is it etched in stone somewhere that MJ even HAS to be in each an every issue?

Joe Q just needs to drop it and move on, imo.

Here's how it works. Joe Q is the reason we have power ranger costumes, totem spider gods, goblin banging Gwen, stingers, Pete kissing Stark's ass, Spidey living in the Avengers tower, Spidey not showing up to his job in the past year, and a plethera of lame stories. All of this is the reason spidey sucks right now, therefore Spidey sucks because of Joe Q.
But, Joe Q didn't create MJ and as we have seen numerous times, he doesn't even like her. So, by blaming all that is wrong in the universe on MJ, he diverts the blame from himself. We all know it's bull, but whatever makes him sleep better at night.

Quite frankly I feel like kicking him in the non existent balls at this years comic con because this is getting old. :o

I admire your dedication, but online petitions have about as many teeth as UN General Assembly resolutions. Joe Q would only look at it and laugh. He's pretty much made up his mind to do whatever pleases him, to hell what people think.

JoeQ's reasoning behind the spidey marriage being a bad thing for Peter is loosely that Peter isnt supposed to have it good; he's not sposed to be able to get the girl. Peter Parker is supposed ot be the everyman's man, the guy who cant get dates and shrinks his spidey outfit in the wash, and cant hold down a job etc etc.

So with this in mind... why is it that the idea of the everyman (past teenagehood) is to finally settle down with someone you love and struggle through life together? How can they say that the character of spidey is diminished because they cant tell hard luck stories as well as they used to when he was young and single? You cant have a guy get to his mid 20's and never have had a meaningful relationship in his life because the editors think that that is what makes him accessible to the average joe. Its bad enough that there's never been good enough reasoning for him not getting a specific graduate degree, or even attempting to get a research job somewhere. Its bull saying his life as spidey prevents him putting in the hours etc etc. He's now a bloody teacher! Talk about a strict timetable! And people like Tony Stark have managed for years to be the hero and still do one hell of a full work day.

Joe Q is a f ucking idiot. Chris moore, you hit the nail on the head. Quesada is insane if he thinks he can riddle peter's adult life with teenage angst that he endured decades ago.
God, what is Quesada's problem....

Well said .

This should be posted on the other thread on the subject. The marriage is discussed quite extensively.

And that was fan outrage back then. That was before they wrote Gwen Stacy nailing Norman Osborn and having twins, somehow, without Peter knowing. I mean, you'd think his Spider-sense would have warned him?

This was also before Spidey received organic webshooters in the comic.

This was also before he received new powers. Stingers. New suit. Joined the Avengers.

Spidey fans have been outraged and speaking up for about the past two years now. The boys at Marvel have proven, if anything, that they're willing to do different and altering things to Spider-Man.

With Spider-Man 3 coming right around the corner, which when they killed MJ the first time the FIRST MOVIE wasn't even out yet, and speculation in the third film is MJ dying. So far Marvel's proven that it likes taking it's comics into a direction of the movies sometimes.

So, I say sign those petitions and show your outcry, etc. Because I can't wait until they give her the axe.

Here's an interview where Joe Q, JMS and others discusses the marriage among other things:
http://www.newsarama.com/JoeFridays/JoeFridays52.html

You know if they have such a problem with MJ being a model/actress then just change it, it's not that freaking hard. Send her back to school or something, people leave hollywood all the time, but even that's too much for Marvel writers. Lazy bums

Yeah - the time when MJ and Peter went back to college was okay. They just didnt use Peter's side of it well. I didnt like MJ's new college friends thing. But her studying psychology was fine. If anything its a good qualification for someone with her life - helps to udnerstand the whys andhows of what her husband and his friends do.

MJ is a big enough model that she can do that (locally) and still attend classes to give her a new direction.

I have never been a fan of MJ, her character just never appealed to me. However, I do like her marriage to Peter, what it does for him and what it does for the Spidey titles. I don't want her killed off.

Saying that, online petitions don't do s**t.

I am 22 years old. I started reading spider-man when I was about 10.

For me Peter Parker has always been married to Mary-Jane. I don't even know who this Gwen Stacy person is. Other than that she was droped off a bridge.

I grew up with Mary Jane. And alot of other spider fans did too. You can't just change somthing that ingrained in people's heads.

Don't rape my childhood Joe Q.:(

If you don't know who Gwen Stacy is I highly suggest you pick up the Essential Spider-Man volumes and read up. A little more than just a girl who was dropped off a bridge.

She was Peter Parker's first love. And Mary Jane happened to be there for him as he was grieving through Gwen, and balancing his crazy battles as Spider-Man.

I feel so sadly apathetic and numb right now. It's gotten to a point on several forums now where fans seem to be rooting for the end of the marriage, or would rather talk about life after MJ. I have a hard time even wanting to pick up a Spidey comic. And it's not disgust, just disinterest, like I have better things to do with my time. I thought I'd actually be interested in reading Civil War, but I haven't read any of it. My husband buys it for himself, but I don't even pick it up off the table.

Thanks, Mr. Quesada.

First off, I signed it.

I think killing off MJ or ending the marriage is just going to take the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man backwards instead of forward. Also, if the powers that be think a roughly 15-17 year old married guy is hard to relate to, wait until they see how hard a time people have relating to a widower/divorcee.

Secondly, this petition means nothing to the powers that be at Marvel.

They will do as they wish, despite how fans may feel. It's what they've always done. They'll spout off their "fear of change" rants over and over, while trying o resotre Spider-Man to his teenage persona. All the while, the irnoy will pass right over their heads. Idiots.

Lastly, when and if this happens, I'll drop all the 616 Spidey titles (okay, so I'm only reading one title from the 616 Spidey-verse anyways).

Also, Mara Jane, you're not the only one disillusioned with Spidey and Marvel nowadays. I was going through my pull list at my LCS on Saturday, and the owner noticed I was only getting Sensational Spider-Man (as far as 616 Spidey goes), and commented as follows:

"I've noticed alot of people picking up Sensational...just like almost everyone I here has dropped both Friendly Neighborhood and Amazing."

I know this isn't a synopsis for the entire comic-reading world, but it does give me a faint glimmer of hope that people are starting to vote with their wallets.
