The Dark Knight Rises Philadelphia for Gotham City

Now, I agree that Philly can be very Gotham-ish, but that picture's really not the best way to illustrate it. Just looks like a city at night to me.

I mean, I just googled "Chicago night" and this is one of the first things to come up:

Even that random pic looks more Gotham-y to me. But you don't need to illustrate it - I've been to Philly several times. Love the architecture. It would make a fine Gotham. :)

Well thanks anyways.

Gotham was pretty much inspired from new york city. the name itself is a play on new york's nickname. From either a gothic or modern look new york has the best of both. However New york is kinda played out in film chicago not as much.

To be honest, I wouldn't want influence from just one single area. Gotham....should look like Gotham. Not (insert real-life city here). That's why in many ways I prefer Burton's city in B89.

Bang on.

Okay but this says Gotham.

No offence but that looks to small to be Gotham, I mean if you compare it to the chicago pic its kinda dainty. I agree it does give the dark feel to but so does Chicago. All though with Batman being in a dark place it would be cool if they used parts of different city ie Philie

Now thats amazing and I kind of like the structure of chicago you know the many levels it has.

yeah they should use different cities for Gotham, Chicago was the primary but it would give a cool feel if there was different cities kinda merged together.

Philly has gothic structures too not to mention most of the arear in the city is in bad shape. Cause of crime and poverty. Perfect for a Gotham City. Last i check that is what makes Gotham City crime and poverty.

Umm, we don't need actual crime and poverty to portray crime and poverty in a film. That's probably the exact opposite of what they want.

It's not like the directors for war films were like, "Hey, let's find an actual war zone!"

No no silly what i meant was it be cool to shoot in them areas cause it would have a nice Gotham like feel to it. Not shoot when their is a gun war going on.

Chicago is the home for Nolan's Batman series I wouldn't want them to change the city with the conclusion of the third Batman film. Philly doesn't seem big enough for me to bare a Gotham appeal to it.

Scarecrow if you can put more pics up I'd believe you but the pic you've given is okay but doesn't give a good feel. But yeah I agree it would be cool to use diffferent cities for like different boroughs of Gotham.

Not in Nolan series like another one and Philly is big enough for Gotham.

Okay i will put more pics up.

trust me, as a philly native, philly would be a great gotham. the inner city would be great for a huge street battle. It has great tall buildings. And it would also be a great place to shoot the "poorer" sections of gotham by using either south, or north philly. MR. NOLAN, PLEASE COME TO PHILLY!!!

Gotham is supposed to be a city of 5 million philly just looks way to small to capture the grandness of gotham.

if chicago is so big, then why did nolan use the same street for 3 different scenes? using two cities would give more variety.

Because you can't shut down an entire city for filming. Plus, it costs tons of money to keep moving around. I'm sure he used London because he's from England, and he probably only started or finished filming there.

I have a feeling once Nolan is done the next series of Batman films will go back to back lots in Los Angeles.

I'm still in favor of Chicago looking more like a real world Gotham than Philly.

That lower pic says Gotham. And why they gotta go back to LA? Nothing Gothic about LA besides they never filmed a Batman movie in LA. Not coutning the 66 movie. Other then that they never really filmed a Bat movie in LA. LA more Superman cause Metropolis not a gothic city its light.
