Have you read volume 1 issue 10 of Punisher war journal? He paints a skull on his tank to make sure Von Burian locates him. Maybe it's because the gun looks more like a toy everyone has a prob with. It does come off kind of Wal-Marty.

Why? Because the guy is obsessed with striking fear in criminals before killing them. Same as it's described to Wayne in Batman Begins. It reminds him at the same time of his family's murder. That's the whole damn point have you ever read the comics.

Come on man you dont need a skull on a gun to strike fear into criminalst:
most criminals crap their pants at the sound of a pump shotgun having a shell pumped into the chamber without a shot being fired. Oh and I'm sure having any gun pointed at them would give them a warm fuzzy feeling

I can't believe that they did that two a perfectly good S&W. What is with them hanging a whole bunch of cheap crap off all the guns in this film?

Its like with Spider-Man's costume. They make small changes to it that aren't very noticable unless you look for them. They update it a tad bit every time rather than have him wear the same exact suit from the first one.

I was kind of hoping they'd use something closer to this in the new movie:

Hopefully the skull on the gun won't be the same as the one on the shirt.

I hope not seems how in reality you can not put a silencer on a revolver. Semi-auto and bolt action yes. Revolver no.
