"Are you waiting impatiently for the third chapter of the Pirates saga? Well, Disney has made that wait a little more bearable. The studio is bumping up the release date by a few hours, opening
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on May 24th instead of May 25th as originally planned.

Disney made the decision Monday after
Spider-Man 3 completely wiped out the box office. According to Variety, Pirates subsequently lost its "biggest weekend opener of all times" title in the aftermath. Spidey was able to pull in $15 million more than Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End did when it opened in July of last year. That film only made $135 million as opposed to Spider-Man 3's domestic take of $148 Million.

Instead of screening at midnight, Disney will now start the show at 8 pm on May 24th. They are hoping to earn back their bragging rights, as the early screenings will be added into the opening weekend grosses.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is set to usher in the Memorial Day weekend like no other film before it. Remember to mark down May 24th on your calander."

My friend sent me this. Granted I didn't believe it because it had a crap source but I checked my local theater and the first showing is at 8 and originally it was at midnight.

Oh good lord. Freakin ass greedbags :whatever:

Moving to misc films.

Moving (I'm assuming out of the Spidey 3 forum)? Dammit, 'fire. You're stemming some of the inevitable fanboy backlash. "Screw Jak Spare-o! LOLZ!!!1!1"

Spidey will still own the 3 day weekend take,Pirates will take home the wensday-sunday opening...It really doesn't count as "breaking spider-man's opening record" since it's not a weekend take.

I think they mean "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest".
Movieweb needs a new editor....

So Disney is trying to cheat with the Box Office. Goooooooooooooo Cheaters

Yeah I noticed that too.

And it does sound a bit greedy but ah well thats what movie studios are there for, to make money!

Disney doing this just tells me that hey have no faith in At Worlds End. At least the reason for doing this. They have no faith in At Worlds End. This confirms it

Does anything on Thursday actually count towards the weekend box office? I know Shrek 3 is having it's first airings May 17th @ 10 so I'm not sure if they would count that too.

Are they saving ANY big releases for June? Seems like it's all in May and maybe one in July.

Well. Spider-Man 2 opened on July 4th weekend. It actually opened on Wednesday May 30th, but opening weekend is listed on Mojo as July 2nd to the 4th (opening weekend). Then there is the 4 day box office right under that July 2nd to the 5th ( the 4 day holiday opening weekend ), so it appears for the official record, they discount the midnight or earlier openings, when they calculate opening weekend gross.

This is what the Disney Executives did when they heard about the Box Office news that Spider-Man kicked their asses

Diz-Nee. Sorry, but there's profit to be had.

FF 2 June 15th. Ocean's 13 June 8th. Live Free or Die Hard on June 29th. Dats about it.

There's a lot of animated movies and big profile comedies that are under the radar, but might be sleeper hits.

LOL. Yea. You think Avi, Marvel, Sony/Clombia give a dame ? I think not. They are laughing all the way to the bank.

When FF 2 comes out, all hell will break lose on these boards. 5 weeks from today. :hyper: Many have poo, pooed the sequel. Bad move. This movie will rock.

June potential sleeper-hits:

Knocked Up (by the guy who did 40 Year Old Virgin) is getting a lot of buzz and that comes out June 1st. I wouldn't be suprised if that turns out to be a sleeper hit.

Hostel 2 should do alright. Even though imo the first one was one of the worst movies I've seen I can still see people going to it.

Then you have these movies that should do atleast $125 million... Ocean's 13, FF2, Evan Almighty, Live Free or Die Hard(although I think this could be a big flop), and Ratatouille.

moving up their release?

wow... nervous much? pretty cheap move, really.

July's movies that should do well are probably going to be Transformers, Harry Potter 5, The Simpsons, I know Pronounce You Chuck & Larry(Adam Sandler comedies are usually pretty big), and Hairspray(I can see this being a flop though.)

Then in August you have Bourne Ultimatum, Rush Hour 3, and Halloween.

Evan Almighty might be a surprise....people like Carrell, and it's PG, so that extra income from the kiddies will boost it.

Bruce Almighty made about $240 million in the US alone so it'll be interesting to see how much Evan makes. I don't think it will be as high as Bruce though.

Transformers will suck. Main reason ? Michael Bay. His last movie The Island bombed. I've seen the trailer. All action no substance. Harry Potter ? Shoe in. Same with the Simpsons.

I really don't understand why they advertise Michael Bay so much when it comes to Transformers. Truthfully, I had no clue who he was when I first saw the teaser last summer with his name above Transformers until I looked him up. None of his movies have been masterpieces and they make it seem like he is a Spielberg or Cameron-like to warrant his name before the movie.
