'Zephyr' here with a quick, but very interesting, release date update:

The recent Disney Showcase confirmed that not only does "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" have the greenlight, but Johnny Depp will be returning to the titular role of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Now it seems Disney has scheduled the film for May 20th 2011 - the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend and two weeks after Marvel Studios' "The First Avenger: Captain America".

However, there is significant doubt over this release date. There appears to be new screenplay in the works and Gore Verbinski is not confirmed to direct and is already attached to both "Rango" due for March 2011, and the video game adaptation "Bioshock".

As well, May 2011 not only has the previously mentioned Captain America, but Spider-Man 4 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II as well. It is very doubtful that Disney would scheduled their picture to go up against either of those films on Memorial Day Weekend.

However, if this release date pans out, then Disney would force either Sony or Warner Bros. to move their respective films to less saturated months.

I see it playing out like so; or rather, if these films are coming out Summer 2011, the only way it COULD work out:

May 6th - The First Avenger: Captain America
May 20th - Pirates of the Caribbean 4
May 27th - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II
June 3rd - Kung Fu Panda 2
June 10th - Spider-Man 4
June 24th - Cars 2
July 1st - The Avengers
July 15th - Batman Begins 3

Wow!! They're setting themselves for major screwage like 2007. Shrek 3, Spider-man 3, and POTC 3 would've easily made 400+ had they had less competition.
When films have less competition they do great just look at 420 million POTC2....and 520+ million TDK.

This is even worse than 2007 but I'm predicting that Harry Potter Deathly Hallows will seriously CRUSH everything! Its the last of the series!

I'd really like to see Avengers and BB3 move to Christmas season. If only to get snow in Gotham in BB3, and space out the marvel flicks a bit. Than put Captain America at The Avengers spot for 4th of July weekend and move Spidey 4 to Caps original spot opening the summer with a big bang. There would be enough time between Spidey and POTC4 for Spidey to be more than profitable. I could care less about POTC4 and Potter at this point and I think the cartoon movies are appropriately placed. Although maybe Cars 2 should go in August. August has been long thought of as just dropping the summer blockbuster riff-raff there so that means have little competition during the month for what I think could possibly be the one in most trouble out of the list.

pffffffffffffff..................i'll see em all anyways! :woot:

but yea, that is crowded:wow:

considering the price rise from TDK's box office success, I don't know if I'll be going out that much for these movies

May 6th - Spider-Man 4
May 20th - Pirates of the Caribbean 4
May 27th - Kung Fu Panda 2
June 3rd - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II
June 10th - The First Avenger: Captain America
June 24th - Cars 2
July 1st - The Avengers
July 15th - Batman Begins 3

I shuffled it around a bit and I think (The way I shuffled it, at least) could work the best. But yeah, 2011 could seriously be worse than 2007. I'm not saying the films will be **** like they were in 2007, just saying it could be just as busy.

The next Batman film will in no way be out in 2011 I'd say.

Juliy 15th 2012, you mean :oldrazz:

..OK that's enough

No real logic behind what you said. Companies try to get the sequels out with in a certain time frame, so the popularity train stays the same. Begins came out in 05. And TDK out in 08, three years apart.

Nolan will do his next film, just as he did for The Presiege. And of course this is if Nolan will come back, which I'm sure he will. But regardless BB3 would most likely come out in '11

^Nothing is set in stone for the final chapter in Nolan's trilogy. It may happen in '11 or it may not happen until '12. Nolan hasn't even signed a deal for the 3rd one yet.

Pirates better hope that it has a huge opening weekend because it's at a disadvantage; I'll be one of the only three people who doesn't go see Deathly Hallows on the following weekend.

June 10th for Spidey? Bad move. They should give the film the May 6th date and move Captain America up to a less crowded February date(like with the Ghost Rider film).

Yea but Nolan did not sign on for TDK until 06. And did not announce it until one year after BB had been released.

And simple logic in Hollywood. Money Talks. TDK is one of the biggest BO movies ever. Too early to tell, but if they follow TDK's way. Which many sequels will do.

Lets not forget that Transformers 3 will probably be out in Summer of 11 as well as another Will Smith movie. I talked about Summer 2011 being crowded in the SM4 thread as well...this is crazy indeed now that Pirates 4 is scheduled for then.

Well, a LOT of these scheduled movies are still in the early production phases. In the case of HP and SM, those already have a director, script and cast set.

But as for the others, it's way too early to tell. Depp may be attached to POTC 4 and a screenplay in development, but there's no director attached. And screenplays are being tossed around for the other films, but no cast or directors attached to them.

I have a feeling two or three films will be either pushed back to less competitive months like November or December, or just delayed for a year like Prince of Persia and Narnia 3.

I seriously think they should wait longer to release the Avengers film, and putting money aside, POTC 4 and Cars 2 sound completely unnessecary (SM4 too, unless it looks promising).

I really doubt it. I'd say the 2012 we get a 3rd Formers film. 2 years between each film

Honestly though with the dough Dark Knight made I think They move Deathly Hallows into a Christmas release. It would be a nice touch to the franchise. Started in Christmas ends at Christman

eh, crowded summer.

I still don't think we'll see Avengers in summer 2011 and I have my doubts about POTC4 and BB3 as well.

I can't wait.... :woot:

But really, POTC will go to 2012 IMO because I doubt Jack Sparrow is going go beyond 4 films... he may come back as an older Sean Connery figure in a fifth installment way down the line but that's about it. Nolan may take a break. Potter could move to the Holidays although that's unlikely... Part II is a summer type film and it's the last one. Avengers might move as well.

HA Good luck getting Warner Brothers to switch Harry Potter 7. There screwed, yah.

they've done this before...its like a game of chess with release dates...studios announce something then other studios strong arm with an even bigger event movie or franchise sequel of their own...and then they see who budges...its been getting even worse over the last few years.

That's a good summer...:D

Bye bye savings...:csad:

Potter will be the biggest movie of that summer if Batman 3 doesn't come out then. It will beat Spider-Man 4 and Pirates 4 and handily beat Captain America and Avengers:o

HP may edge them WW... but it will easily be outgrossed by all those films domestically.

You are smoking something if you think HP will loose to Captain America and the Avengers:o SM3 also left a bad taste...extremely bad taste in the mouths of fans and critics so SM4 will not do as good as SM3 did unless it is completely fantastic but lets not kid ourselves. Pirates 4 would also have to just be extremely terrific to ruin Harry Potter and those two films will be extremely close that Summer box office wise unless of course Batman 3 is out which will easily beat everything. But Harry Potter and Pirates will be the top summer grossers but I think DH part 2 will be fresher on people's minds and therefore come out on top. But Harry Potter will easily beat those other films:o
