When they take the actual actor and de-age them with CGI, they rarely tend to look like their actual younger self.

Younger Sparrow does resemble "Gilbert Grape" era Depp more than early 20's NOES Depp. Maybe he isn't supposed to be that young?

Well he is already on the Black Pearl and acting as a pirate, which means this flashback happened after the Wicked Wench was sunk by the EIC and raised as the Black Pearl by Jones. So this flashback happens within the 13 years before DMC.

How old is Sparrow suppose to be? Often Depp plays characters who are a bit younger than his actual age due to his youthfulness (until recently).

Like I'd imagine that his character in Transcendence was written as a 30 something year old. Same thing with Tonto in The Lone Ranger - if you sorta look at the flashbacks and timeline, I guess Tonto is suppose to be in his 30's too.

It does remind me of the Furious 7 "One Last Ride" tagline when they had three more movies in the pipeline. Then again, that was more for Paul Walker but many people believed that was the last film in the franchise because of that tagline.

They cgi de-aged Anthony Hopkins on Westworld and the creators stated they were basing it on how the character would look younger rather than how Hopkins actually looked at that age.
