I wonder if they are going to incorporate Sparrow being too old for the pirate life in the "final" adventure.

I doubt it. Actors do not want to be constantly told they are old in their own movie. I think the bad luck angle will be a substitute for Jack's older age. His bad luck being an extension he's not the pirate he once was is how the filmmakers got around it.

He doesn't look terrible but yeah he's noticeably aged from at least the time of the last pirates movie.

It shows how his 'Rock Roadie' outfit makes him way older. Because even rockers don't dress like that.

No, the problem is that Depp is an alcoholic and drug addict who falls off the wagon on occasion. But lets just act like that isn't the case.

Nothing wrong with a little alcohol or drugs. We all indulge from time to time.

That could be part of the case in addition to his beloved mother becoming really sick in 2012 and dying last year.

What happened was a number of things:

When Depp was with his ex-wife (or rather his long time girlfriend and mother to his kids), he was clean, hence why he looked so youthful.

But came the divorce. Then he started to party and drink again. Then he got with Amber. Then his mom died. Then being middle age.

Then he made a stupid mistake (allegedly) with the abuse. While it doesn't mean he's a bad person but it does not excuse him. I've great stories about him doing great things for people, so I can see him being at a breaking point mentally and that abuse allegations was the consequence of that. Something he would've never done in the past.

But he's always been covering up his dark side since his days with River Phoenix, and what happened with Amber is the consequences of that. Sadly.

Looks like he's getting better. And I'm telling ya..Fantastic Beast seeing his FAT DRUNK bobble-head was disgusting. :0

Yeah, he looked so bad in Fantastic Beast. It was made worse by the hair.

I've been seeing SJWs saying that they're gonna watch DMTNT in spite of the Depp thing because the franchise was a part of their childhood, so it's looking like there won't be that type of Casey Affleck backlash. Or maybe it's too early for the think pieces.

I would watch a young Jack sparrow movie. Especially if they had Depp play him and de-aged him like they did in DMTNT. ILM is setting the bar so damn high lately.

Soundtrack seems realy good like usual.

Even though it's being promoted as the "final adventure begins", i actualy hope they wrote a good stand-alone story first and foremost. If it underperforms, it would be depressing for the series to end on a cliffhanger. I still remember the 4th film more or less being a stand-alone story but also seemingly planning to be the first of a new trilogy...even though they had no idea what that new trilogy would even be about.

The trailer music isnt from the soundtrack.

I ask for mermaids, they give me mermaids. I ask for sharks, they give me sharks. Does Disney read these boards!?

That poster is ridiculous and I love it. This movie looks like a combination of the best of the first film and the two sequels.

I'm starting to think they may have taken Barbossa in a Governor Henry Morgan direction, and officially have him be a retired pirate in this film running an island in exchange for services to the crown. Salazar sparing him and trying to use him to find Jack wouldn't make that much sense if Barbossa's just the pirate captain of a magic ship that still can't catch the Pearl, nor would it make much sense if that's the same case and he's just a privateer. However, a Governor Hector Barbossa? With control over an islands resources and a small flotilla including the Queen Anne's Revenge? I can see that being useful to Salazar, and perhaps even the honor of the position would encourage Salazar to treat Barbossa like a fellow gentleman.

And who knows? Perhaps Barbossa will have a subplot of trying to wrangle Henry, Caterina, and Jack into stopping Salazar all while still pretending to follow Salazar's orders.

Also, the trailer seems to be playing Henry as having a funny combination of Will and Elizabeth's personalities when they were law abiding, with some of Elizabeth's endearing idealism and Will's properness. Just the dorky smile he has when he says "I saw her ankles!" Seems to speak of his parents, and for some reason I love the idea of him being this dork with Jack as an honorary dirty uncle.
