you can just TELL Depp loves playing Sparrow

The man just looks spent in those videos. He can never escape this role. It reminds me of Birdman.

He was doing fine until he made some bad choices in both his career and his personal life. Now he needs Sparrow.

Johnny Depp Allegedly Uses an Earpiece to Feed Him Lines

Of the many revelations to come from Johnny Depp’s public sparring with his former business managers, this is the greatest: The Management Group claims the actor’s sense of entitlement is so “clear and epic” that he doesn’t even memorize his lines. “Depp insisted that this sound engineer be kept on yearly retainer so that he no longer had to memorize his lines,” attorney Michael Kump wrote in an amended complaint, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The price for paying a sound engineer for this plush gig, according to Depp’s ex-managers? Hundreds of thousands of dollars. Back in 2008, Vulture got a tip about Depp’s earbud habit from an unlikely source: Kirsten Dunst. “Johnny Depp has music playing in his ear when he acts,” she said at the time. “He has an earbud. That’s why he’s so great.” Now, he’s graduated to from listening to the Stones on set to hearing Jack Sparrow’s one-liners.

I've never heard this before but has me thinking. What do you guys think?

Processing and repeating dialogue and movement and action directions you havent memorized in real time as they are fed to you through an earpiece while reacting to the other actors actions and director's directions would be pretty damn hard. Maybe he has found a way of making it work, but that in itself would be pretty impressive.

Just memorizing your parts of the script seems easier to me.

Probably would lead to a few extra takes. Though I wonder if they are year around because he has them feed him the lines in his off times as well. Like he practices, then he doesn't really have to read or remember, and then later he is able to jog his memory.

Either way, it is amazing to see how you can spend your money when you have that much.

Eh, is it really that much of a big deal?

Didn't Brando do this on Apoc Now?

I dont know if he had an earpiece, but I remember that Brando showed up for the film overweight and being a pain in the ass. Couldnt remember his lines. Didnt give a rats ass. Luckily for Brando it ended up resulting in one of the iconic characters of cinema.

I recall when Brando did Superman, he refused to memorize his lines and they did feed him his lines with cue cards for all of his scenes.

Depp surprising guests at Disneyland was great.

I remember a rumor that in a scene of THE GODFATHER he actually had his line written in the forehead of the actor facing him.

He did that for The Island of Dr. Moreau. David Thewlis said that sometimes his earpiece would pick up transmissions from local police and Brando would say something like "there is a robbery at woolworth's"

So this may be a box office bomb in the us!? Well I mean compared to the rest of the film's in the franchise

So this is supposed to be the beginning of the end for the franchise?
