Sandler still makes a profit? Are you sure? Also, James cash seems to be the Mall Cop thing.

Well it's not like most of his films for the last ten plus years cost all that much. A lot of them require the mildest of production values at best. Then he fills the casts out with buddies who are probably not asking for top dollar. So, these films don't have to break the bank, just be profitable enough, and both of them still make movies fairly regularly so they must be seen as financially viable. This thing though... This looks like a lot of SFX and I unless it's spectacularly funny and the WOM spreads like wildfire... yeah... I don't see this working out for Sandler and James this time.

That is the thing, didn't the Sony leaks indicate that they weren't profitable? That paying Sandler was making them the exact opposite of profitable?

Don't know. Never read the SONY leaks. I just assumed that when someone keeps getting paid and given the budget to make films, one way or the other the studios must think that he's worth the investment, whether the profit comes in the short term or over the long haul. And again, other than that fairy tale story film where he tells stories to those kids, and the Jack and Jill thing, his movies have been pretty modest in budget cause what's really required? What are they spending cash for in those other films? Catering for Shaq and James probably. :woot: So he's been able to squeak by profit wise and keep getting projects green lit.

This time though we got a film that must cost a lot more than his previous films, and I have to wonder, how will overseas audiences react to Sandler and James style comedy? Cuz this budget probably requires some profit from outside the North American market. In other places the SFX parts will sell (and even then... I don't know), but will the rest of the film?

They didn't have a choice. They made a pretty stupid deal with Sandler paying him the kind of money he would have deserved during his prime in the last 90s early 00s. This deal also meant they had to make 4 films with him. I believe Pixels is the last film on the deal. This is why Sandler made the Netflix deal. No more free money.

Well, this is probably the most special effects Sandler has had in a movie. guess we will see if it makes a difference.

Nah, he's done other big budget stuff before. Click and Bedtime Stories. This one seems to be more "save the world" based though.

I guess. it's been awhile since I saw either of those. He's had some effects before, but I'm a little annoyed at seeing commercials for a Sandler movie that have Donkey Kong and Pac Man and no Adam if you get the difference.

What happened was Patrick Jean smoked a blunt with a friend one day and, in the middle of his high, said to his friend
Dude, let's make a movie about 80s video games invading Earth in real life
and that's how Pixels came to be.

This looks at least watchable. Probably something I will take my older nieces and nephews to go see.

Look, I realize some of his more recent stuff isn't good, but at one point, Sandler was a comedy genius. I love Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. I'm not saying this will be anywhere near that, and even I can't defend Jack and Jill, but Man I'm really hoping he has a comeback left in him.

Bolded for emphasis.

Exactly.

And even then I think a comedy "genius" is a bit exhaggerated. I liked his work but genius. Nah...

I do hope he has a comeback in him too. But im just not sure. I was hoping his Netflix deal would allow him to make more films that are higher quality but everything Ive heard and read about his first Netflix movie is just turrible

I just saw the trailer for this movie, and I gotta say that I'm actually psyched to see this. It looks like a really fun movie.

I was pretty excited about the concept but when I saw Adam Sandler my interest waned, and then when I saw Kevin James I said "nope."

Holding out for reviews.

Same

I love the concept. Love the SFX.

But Sandler and James just have me completely turned off on the whole movie. Also, I didn't find the trailer funny other than the Pac Man bit.

They might've been too young for what the story is going for, but it would've been better if they got say a lot of the Apatow crew (Rogen, Rudd, Segal, Robinson)

If you're in your 30s you were like a little kid when all this stuff came out, like Gad's character is.

Kevin James really wrecked his career abit after King of Queens (Mall Cop did well, but it still wasn't good).

I always wonder what its like to be an actor like Kevin James.

Sure he get work, but is he proud of what he's doing? Or is it just "take what I can get" and he's kinda miserable

Have you seen his wife, the former Philippines model? I'm sure he's not crying himself to sleep.

You can have a hot wife all you want that still must suck to be passionate about something and not being given he chance to do it well.

That is if he doesn't like his own films

Well, I'm sure he makes a lot of money being one of Sandler's sidekicks. Just like David Spade or Rob Schneider. He seems happy. the only real comparison I can think of though is Alyson Hannigan, who between Buffy, American Pie and HIMYM, basically made a pretty good career out of being a professional sidekick.

That's doesn't really go with what I was saying though

Well I've never heard Kevin James say he didn't like one of his movies. It does happen like with Channing Tatum and GI Joe. I suppose it could be happening if James was just taking Sandler's reject scripts like David Spade, but I just don't really know what his taste is.

I usually don't put much stock in reviews. All of the Friday The 13th movies got horrible reviews back in the 80's, but the first 4 are among my all time favorite horror films. As a more recent example, all of the critics hated the live action Scooby Doo movie, but I thought it was pretty damn funny. Maybe not a perfect movie, it certainly has its flaws, but I enjoyed it.

Sure, Adam Sandler has made some real stinkers as of late. And Kevin James is somewhat over rated, at least as a lead actor. But they've also put in some solid performances in the past. There are very few actors who will cause me to say "I won't see this film because (enter name here) is in it", and neither Adam Sandler nor Kevin James is on that list.

So I'm still looking forward to Pixels.
