The Amazing Spider-Man Please no glasses this time. Please no nerdy Clark Kent like characterization.

Yeah at this point I'm convinced you haven't even read the comics. He played basketball, he's an agile superhero. He had to let Flash kick him in the butt so people wouldn't know he's Spider-Man. He has been whiney, but in a funny way. He was never clumsy in Ultimate. And if at all, it would have been before the bite.

I've read Spider-Man comics for years, so I'm very familiar with all aspects of the character (something I doubt you are Mr. "HE NEEDS TO QUIP!") Ultimate Parker was a klutz before he got his powers, and needed to keep up appearances in order to keep his identity secret. And I'm not surprised that you think his whining was funny, but I tired of Bendialog quickly.

How does being bit a (Radioactivity charged. Genetically modified. Oz fuelled) Spider turn someone from a clumsy fool,into...not being one?

In the MTV show. 2 bullies were trying to beat Peter up,but he dodged out the way. Then he realised he was who he was,and let them punch him. Huge and better difference there.

Keeping up the appearance of a klutz doesn't make sense, but keeping up the appearance that he is still a weak easy target does.

We have a lot of camps in regards to Peter Parker. Some want him to be the nerdy dorkboy, others want him to be more of a smarmy hipster-dork, and so on. I don't know the route Webb is going to go, but from 500 Days of Summer, I suspect he'll try to pull off a hybrid.

Woah Woah Woah Woah.... You don't want a nerdy (or nerdy looking) Peter Parker?

Peter Parker IS a nerd and wore glasses at the very beginning of the comics. He has to be a nerd. It's mandatory

I can only assume this movie will be about Peter after he gets bitten...:whatever:

Well I own EVERY issue of Amazing up till BND, (some reprints) EVERY issue of Ultimate Spider-Man, and a good amount of the others (Peter Parker, Spectacular, Web of...) So in your face!

And he was never a "klutz" after he was bitten. On purpose or otherwise. He has pretended to be weaker and such. But never a "klutz." That was all Clark Kent and Reeves stuff. The point is after he is bitten he grows up. He stops being the shy bookworm. Which by the way is what he is called by the other students. He is never refered to as a geek, or dork. They simply call him a bookworm. But you'd know that if you read the comics.

Are you saying Spider-Man shouldn't quip?

I may be a Superman fan, but I like Spiderman to be set on his own. I felt the previous efforts had him to much as a nerd, in fact similar to a near bumbling Clark Kent. Let's move on and get the wise cracking dude with some confidence. He won't be the coolest guy in town, but won't stand out as being a nerd either

PLEASE leave the Donner influence at home for all new SH movies!

Parker is a nerd though.
Have you even read a Spider-man comic?

Parker WAS a nerd. He is still smart and well read. That doesn't make him a nerd. He opened up out of his shell after he was bitten by the spider and became a superhero. Have YOU even read the comics?

Look, Parker just needs to be less of a social misfit. The cartoons have done a great job in conveying this. He's not the poster child for party central and he's not the big man on campus but he needs to be more out going and have an attractive personality on both an academic and social level...to some extent.

No, I'm just saying that for a very long while there, it seemed that it was his only defining characteristic if one would go by your posts.

He should be about two notches cooler than an SHH poster. :awesome:

It is one of the defining characteristics of Spider-Man. And one of the biggest ones neglected in the last three films. That's why I'm so worked up about it.

I dont mind Parker being a dork/nerd.

I do mind that Raimi turned Parker into a social ****** complete with bad luck superpowers.

^this.

He's supposed to be a geek. He's supposed to have bad luck. He's not supposed to have no idea how to interact with everyone ever and seem to have some sort of development disorder.

Exactly, this is what Sam Raimi painfully missed.

At times Raimi channeled the bumbling Donner Clark Kent *shudders*:doh::doh:

I'm disappointed they're going back to high school. I think Raiami had the right idea when he got him out of there fast.

He's in college now.

When Hutcherson was attached,he was obviously going to be in high-school.

didnt Peter only wear glasses in the first issue of spider-man? or amazing fantasy i guess. he stopped wearing them after getting bit cuz he didn't need them anymore

No. He wore them for a few more issues until Flash pushed him and knocked them off his face. The glasses then broke and Peter never bought more because he didn't really need them.

I agree. But check this out...

I think the Raimi took TOO MUCH from Superman. Watch

Superman-Boy starts to develop powers and wants to show off. Ends up learning a lession on how to use his powers for good. He then leaves home and starts to work at a big city news paper.

Superman 2-Superhero gives up his powers so he can be with the woman he loves who finds out who the hero really is. But gets his powers back when she, and the rest of the city need his help.

Superman 3-Superhero shows his dark side which is brought forth by an unknown substance. The hero also revists his roots and past relationships. (Lana Lang and the return to Smallville)

Except that in the case of Spidey's 1 & 2 the storylines were taken from the Spider-Man comics and pre-dated both Superman 1 & 2. So if anyone did any ripping-off, it's Supes.
