Pokémon live-action trailer-- leak, or forgery of crafty fanboys?

If a live action Pokemon film were that far along in production already, we would have heard about it a long time ago. Add to that the fact that the sound of the cheering crowd is pretty obviously edited in, and it's definitely a fan film.

Its most likely a pitch to a studio, very similar to the mortal kombat footage we got earlier in the year, interestingly enough the full 3 minute test footage was shown at a private screening at anime evolution 2010, i must say i do recognize a couple of the actors in this footage which is interesting. I wouldnt absolutely rule this out as a fake just yet and someone of you have, i dont think any theater manager or owner would allow fake footage to be shot at the theater, maybe after closing hours? But still, id like to think this wouldnt be so bad for the pokemon franchise if this were to be put out into theaters, it'd be a radical approach but i think in order to branch out to larger audiences its something you have to do. You cant really base much off 38 seconds of footage (meaning mythos, characters, etc) so i wouldnt rule out that its just a completely serious movie.
Oh and the title shot at the end was quite nice.

If you know your way around the programs, it is quite simple to give footage a "bootleg" look. Just load up your footage and mess around with the blur, scale, range of motion, quality, pixelation, etc. All of this can be accomplished in Adobe After Effects, for example. Hell, the timecode that is stamped on the video looks just like the standard After Effects timecode.

It looks like it was a very well-made trailer made by students of film school, not a legitimate film. It's quite interesting, though, since it doesn't seemed like it's catering to young audience at all, with the Rocket Team blasting away with guns and not cute Pokemon.

I wouldn't mind seeing a more serious version of Team Rocket. Their anime counterparts are nothing more than evil clones of the Three Stooges.

Yeah, not for real. Still fun looking. I don't know why they didn't just put it out on Youtube instead of concocting this fake rumor. Maybe they think they'll drum up some real interest?

Well if it's fake or someone has made it in hopes of attracting attention or whatever, its not a totally bad effort.. but, it's obviously being made/designed as a trailer, I don't get why Pikachu isn't the main focus or money shot.. surely if, whoever made this, was trying to fool people or whatever, a Pikachu-centric trailer would go a little bit further in doing that than what we have there...

I wouldn't mind a live action pokemon film.. I can see it working well, although I think it would be best to approach it from more of a 'sci-fi' kinda point of view (with respects to the pokemon and their explanation) and only feature pokemon which are, or look, based on real animals.. ie. pikachu being a mouse, Vulpix being a fox etc.. or at least, not going as far as to use pokemon like Mr Mime and Magnemite. I remember someone on the hype had an idea about a pokemon film featuring a plague wiping out most of animal life, so scientists create a sort of ark to store their DNA and many years in the future Pokemon are the lifeforms we are left with.. something like that anyway.

I wish Nintendo would take that approach with their video games. I think they still believe most of the people who bought the NES are still 12 years old and under.
