Teen is held without bail

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A 17-year-old boy is accused of bludgeoning his parents with a hammer, then hosting dozens of friends for a party while their bodies lay in the bedroom, police said Monday.

Tyler Hadley of Port St. Lucie is charged with twin counts of first-degree murder in the deaths, which authorities say happened Saturday. He is being held without bond at a juvenile detention center in Fort Pierce and it's not immediately known whether he has an attorney.

The parents — Blake and Mary-Jo Hadley — were believed to have been struck with the hammer in their heads and torsos sometime after their son posted on Facebook around 1:15 p.m. Saturday alerting friends to an evening party at his house, about 50 miles north of West Palm Beach.

Investigators believe the parents were attacked outside their master bedroom and the bodies were moved into the bedroom and the door locked.

As many as 60 people attended the party that night, according to Port St. Lucie Police spokesman Tom Nichols. They were loud enough to prompt a noise complaint and a visit by police officers. When they arrived at 1:30 a.m. Sunday to warn about the noise, the party was already breaking up, Nichols said.

Then, police said, they received a tip that murder may have taken place. They returned to the home at 4:20 a.m., finding the bodies covered with towels, files, books and other household items, and the hammer between them.

The mother, 47, was an elementary school teacher. The father, 54, worked for Florida Power and Light.

Autopsies were underway, but police said they believed they died of blunt-force trauma.

Hadley had attended St. Lucie West Centennial High School, according to police, but had not graduated. They said they did not know what the motive was.

I hope this kid will be tried as an adult. As for motive, isn't it obvious?

That is messed up & then partying it up as if nothing happened.

I think we have found a boyfriend for Casey Anthony.

Another classic sociopath. It's truly frightening how many of them are hiding in our society.

The thing we all need to remember is that anyone is capable of this. Nobody is born with something like this; it develops over a period of years, for whatever reason. Emotional trauma, physical or verbal abuse, etc. Or it could just be no reason at all. It's not like a fetus just magically gets fairy potion inside the womb and becomes a psychopath.

Just like "3 kids 1 hammer"... Human beings are animals. We are all animals by our very nature. The way society is now constructed over the years, we have trained ourselves to be something "better" than a dog or cat or lion. But every now and then, we get a story like this. And then what do we say? "Oh, what a crazy person. I would never do that."

Yeah, sure. If the situation was intense enough, or you were put under extreme circumstances, like war, or some survival scenario like Saw, you have no idea what you would be capable of.

This is humanity, ladies and gentlemen. Wake up. Like the guy who murdered the 8 year old in New York... there's nothing special about that guy. He's a human being just like you and me. To say, "Oh, he's a monster," is ignoring the harsh reality of our species.

^I think Rocketman killed someone.

Lmao. :lmao:

Of course I haven't.

I just think it's silly when people find this stuff so shocking or newsworthy. This is how people are. And I think as a society, we treat it like it's something that happens once every twenty years. This crap happens everyday.

This is a tremendous generalization. There is a difference between response to severe trauma, and psychopathic behavior.

Back in the day we just waited until our parents went out for the evening, or on vacation.

This guy obviously knew he was gonna get caught. Why else throw a rad party with all your *****in friends!? This was his going away party to himself. If you ask me, that's not psychotic, that's genius. He'll be a great day planner in prison!

And who the hell tipped the cops off that there was a murder? That's absurd. If they were tipped off in the middle of the day but then showed up at night at the party for a noise ordinance, that's poor police work. I'm sure it was the kid that tipped em off. Everything was winding down, his friends all wasted, so he decides it's time for him to pack it up.

On the plus: His parents won't be mad for the mess he and his friends left.

No, not everyone is capable of this. Sure, some people suffer trauma and lash out. Others don't. And yes you can be born like that. Some people are just born with the wiring in their brain messed up.

You can't compare brutially murdering your parents to a survival scenario. That's completely different.

I do agree, however, that he is a human, and calling him a monster is a why to de-humanize him. But him being human, and "humans sometimes do this", is no excuse for what he did.

I do like how you said "anyone" is capable of doing this, then when someone suggested YOU did, you laughed it off as "Of course I haven't".

it might of been one of the party guests...
maybe, he got drunk and let it slip what he did, and the guest (probably pretty drunk themselves didn't know what to make of it, or thought he was joking) but, once they started to sober up a bit, and the more they thoguht about it, things started adding up for them that what he said was probably true, so, they called it in...

But the invites were already sent out, he had no choice but to continue hosting the party

:(

Rocketman, I disagree completely. That's a generalization on the grandest scale dude.

Don't treat something so destructive & frankly evil, as if it's common. It's not.

I heard the news of this at dinner tonight & now reading it again... Man, I just don't know what's become of (so many) of our younger generation. Desensitized to the point of acts like this? Pretty disturbing stuff.

I guess the real question is, is society to blame, or was it something his parents did? Chances are his parents told him he couldn't have his party, and he lashed out. Sadly, just to keep his social standing with his friends, he killed his parents.

However during his trial, I'm sure we'll hear about all kinds of 'abuse' he had to endure. Standard defense lawyer stuff. Blame the people who can't defend themselves, the deceased.

It was is Florida? He'll be freed in a few months.

"Madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push."

I agree with Rocketman's view. Call me a cynic but we humans are capable of horrid things - sometimes for no reason. It's imprinted into our DNA unfortunately. Freud believed that even our minds at a certain age lacks compassion. So, what's so hard to believe about it? I mean, the entire nation on 9/11 demanded blood, at any cost. Granted, this situation is different... but not too different. Our drive to do these things is often excused by emotion triggers or trauma , but who is to say that our darkest elements are only unleashed when faced with rape, war, murder, greed, etc?
