From the pics we've seen, we know that someone or something crashes the wedding, but what causes the interruption: is it the return of Doom or the coming of the Silver Surfer?

If the wedding is real early in the movie, I think it will be a Latverian fleet that will interrupt this wedding but I could be wrong...

Neither. I think its just an accident with a newscopter.
But I do expect Stan Lee to crash the wedding.

Silly, neither. It'll be JAL who will crash it ;)

Well, Doom crashed the wedding (or tried) in the comics, and he will need a strong re-introduction, especially since he's reportedly being retooled, so my guess is the movie opens with an interrupted wedding and closes with a completed wedding.
Perhaps the Surfer's arrival will occur after we've been re-introduced to Doom - or perhaps the Surfer's arrival is what stops the wedding chaos? That way, Doom is already in the middle of everything, witnesses the Surfer's power and takes off in quest of it...
We've been told that Galactus will appear, but perhaps that will be in flashback or simply something happening to another world somewhere that we witness.
If the Surfer finds his conscience in this film (hopefully courtesy of Alicia Masters), before Galactus' arrival, that would be fine. I assume he will have already signaled the Big G (it was the first thing he did when he arrived in the comic) so the film could still have some closure, but with the Galactus threat looming in the near future (i.e, FF3).

I'd make a comparison here to the Star Trek-Next Generation episode ("Q Who") where the crew are transported to a distant sector of space by the God-like troublemaker Q, to be shown how unprepared humanity is for what lies out there...Sure enough, they soon encounter the Borg and find out very quickly that they are no match for them. Q transports the ship back to familiar space just as the Enterprise is about to be dissected...but because the encounter did occur, the Borg will be coming... An ominous note to end on, but it worked.
When the Borg did enter Federation space to assimilate humanity a year or so later, their arrival was all the scarier because of the brief glimpse we'd already had of their power.

I think it's the government arriving to recruit the Fantastic Four to stop the oncoming threat of the Surfer.

I say Surfer, and sorry Malus but I think your Alicia hope has pretty well been squashed by Jessica's quote.

I don't have a problem with Sue being the one to bring Surfer around. Seems a good way to reinforce her maternal character, of course Sue would be the one of the 4 to see past the Surfer's cold exterior. I assume from what I've read around here that that is not how it is in the comics. But I don't see any problem with that being changed from the comics.

But as far as the poll. I say Surfer.

Why would the military send a news helicopter?

Oh I didn't know it was a news helicopter. I didn't pay attention to it.

Maybe it was shot down or something.

It was already confirmed that the Surfer streaking through the sky disrupts the helicopter and it crashes. Coincidental yes but meh. It was confirmed right before the helicopter pics started popping up. When they were just blowing wind on the actors.

But that doesn't make any sense. And I'm not talking in terms of the comic precedent.

Susan will have her hands full with the 4--her family. She's getting married and has a whole new life--complete with celebritydom--to juggle now. Plus, no doubt the revengeful Victor Von Doom will have his interests fixated on her as well. Right there she's in the center of the storyline's biggest plot pieces.

Besides, actorwise, I have concerns that Jessica would be able to emote the empathy needed to be convincing on screen on the same level as Kerry Washington. Don't get me wrong, Jess is a capable actress--but she excels best only in certain roles. However, projecting the warmth and empathy needed to convince a would-be destroyer to drop his plans? I don't think so.

I mean, how much more gravity would such empathy carry coming from a woman is both blind and a minority? The metaphorical dynamics there are too great to pass up--plus Kerry could do the job more effectively. She hasn't been fleshed out yet as a headlining star in this franchise--so she needs it more than Jessica's character--who is going to be front and center anyway.

If they make Susan Storm the "mediator" that brings Silver Surfer to his senses I'm going to be annoyed. Not just because it's out of continuity. But rather because it will wreak of studio politics to simply give their top actress yet another thing to do instead of using the best actress on their roster for the storyline's job.

Call me paranoid, but I do not want a Hugh Jackman/X3 situation to develop with Jessica Alba in this franchise. She's talented and beautiful but her character doesn't need to be in everyone's sauce...there's plenty of plot to share with Kerry/Alicia without compromising her marquee stance.

Great post. I have to agree with you, even though I think making Wolverine the main character worked for the X-Men movies. Fantasic Four is different, the family *is* the character.

On the other hand, I'm worried a little bit about the secondary characters taking away from the Fantasic Four. I'd really like to see them developed a little more. I'd like Ioan's and Jessica's characters especially
have a little more spark and depth. I don't expect them to be as cool or dynamic as the Thing or Johnny Flame, but I'd like to see some improvement. Mr. Fantastic is the main man, dammit. :cwink:

Makes sense to me, but ok. I think it is simply combining some of the elements of the comic together.

I guess you are going to have to be annoyed, because I have a feeling thats exactly how its going to go down.

Once again, our opinions differ on some things. It's all good.

As CBM history has consistently borne out, "combining some of the elements of the comic together" often does not work--especially when studios bent more on monetary gains than creative integrity are involved. Consider just two examples:

* One look at the messy Dr. Doom treatment in the first FF film speaks volumes of failure in seamlessly merging traits: In that movie, Doom was an amalgam of Spider-Man 1 billionaire businessman, Electro and Namor. Oh, and he went into space with the core four. :whatever:

Verdict: Stripped of the royalty and character that made him great in the first place, "Dr. Doom" is now a laughingstock among both readers and moviegoers. Most say that he is the greatest Achilles heel to the first film, since none of the changes made benefited the character in any way.

* Combining "elements" didn't work when Logan was "combined" with Cyclops in X3. In that film, it was Logan--played by the franchise's biggest star--who appealed to the Dark Phoenix's conscience, instead of her longtime love and significant other Scott "Cyclops" Summers. This was done despite the fact that in movietime Logan had known Jean Grey less than a few months...and yet, he so-called "loved" her.

Verdict: Eliminating Cyclops from the picture and fast-tracking Wolverine into a relationship with his widow resonated poorly among many people. Regarded as a psuedo-Dark Phoenix saga, its own fanbase has bashed it constantly.

Those are just two examples where studio involvement ruined a perfectly good thing in favor of appeasing Hollywood salaries. There are many more examples of similar failures. I'm not against updates and changes being made if it serves a purpose. But retcons and tweaks that handicap the brilliance of what has sold "as is" for 4 decades are unnecessary.

And I have serious doubts that the leopard will change its spots now.

Heh. Well fans are getting used to being annoyed with needless changes now, aren't we? In fact, that seems that's the goal of certain studios. ;)

I dont think either will be crashing the wedding.

i'd like to think the helecopter is a news reporter spying on the wedding and maybe an electrical storm from galactus' ship causes it to spiral out of control.

Yeah, I remember hearing comfirmation that Silver Surfer would crash the wedding.

Excellent point with the Hugh situation happening again LS, but remember THIS IS FOX!

:(

Oh and Mr.T crashes the Wedding, Him and Ben used to be on some letter team named show, Ben was his stand in. :o
