After another day thinking about the movie i have to rank The Last Jedi last. I had so much more joy watching all the other movies. The Last Jedi makes some bold choices that just don't work for me. For the most part it is a very boring movie.

To me, nothing beats " A New Hope." If no other films had ever been made it would still be one of the GOAT films.

I understand why people love Empire so much, but without ANH it can't stand alone - although it certainly is one of the best sequels ever made.

As for TLJ, it ranks behind the original films (even ROTJ) but ahead of everything else.

I was going to wait until seeing TLJ a second time before ranking them, but the more I think about it, the more I'm not sure I want to give another 7 dollars to this movie. Maybe I will, but I doubt I'll like it better (not even sure I could sit through it again so soon without getting antsy). I will say it's probably a better-made film than ROTS, TFA, and TPM; but it's one I won't be rewatching a whole lot simply because I dislike the story direction so much and the way Luke was handled.

I'd have to think more on this. It's really a significant gap behind the entire OT and the rest.

I agree that ESB can't stand on it's own as it's made as a sequel but I think it's strengths make ANH better in hindsight. Vader becomes an actually interesting character instead of just a cool one, the Empire gets more of an identity not least due to the Imperial March, and the link between Luke and the villain really puts the entire plot a notch higher. I also think the sequels make Luke a much more fulfilling character as he really gets to go on a discovery of the Force, although I'm glad ANH didn't hotshot his abilities to the point TFA did with Rey.
