Along with the announcement of Sirens the Hollywood Reporter revealed via tweet that a Deadshot solo was in development.

Development doesn't translate into "will be happening", but it is an interesting proposition.

At first I was a little WTF? about a Deadshot solo movie considering he's not even DC's greatest assassin (Deathstroke).

But after some thinking I think a small budget smaller stakes movie could fit well for a Deadshot movie. Maybe throw in Rick Flagg, Waller, and Suicide Squad member or two as supporting characters.

maybe get someone like Tim Miller, one of the John Wick directors, or Gareth Evans (The Raid director) I think it could work.

This would be about as anticipated as the Cyborg movie

Ironically both would feature non White leads. A Deadshot movie like the OP suggested could definitely work. Plus Will Smith is the star so I'd make some money and get butts in those seats. I'm not exactly clamoring for one though but I'm definitely intrigued by the idea

It could be great. It could be crap. Like every other movie, ever.

Will Smith is a big star overseas so it would make a ton of money worldwide even if it has mediocre US box office.

Okay, sorry fans of the post-Nolan DCEU, if you enjoyed this year's DCEU films I respect your opinion. But, having said that, a small rant follows.

For starters clearly what the DCEU really needs is a Deadshot movie, right ?

In a word "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I mean, OFFS !!! Please tell me this isn't true !

How about they concentrate on making watchable movies about their marquee characters, rather than Will Smith vanity projects ! Will Smith didn't exactly light up the screen as Deadshot, Ben Affleck was more impressive as Batman in SS (and he was in the film for about 2 minutes tops).

Who the **** is in charge at WB/DC ?

I'm sorry but they need to take a page from Marvel's book here. Marvel's making amazing, fun films and DC isn't (it physically hurts me to concede that, but its true - yes I'm bashing the DCEU, because I don't enjoy it, and I'm in their ****ing fan-base !!! Who are they making those films for ? They sure as hell aren't making them for me.) Sure they made some money from this year's films, but sooner or later people will stop going to see them to avoid the inevitable disappointment.

And it's not like a Deadshot film is going to improve things.
Sorry, rant over.

(For comparison's sake, I just saw Dr Strange a 3rd time, and it was great - I could barely sit through Suicide Squad once, and I only watched the last hour of B v S a second time, and it was tolerable, not good, but tolerable).

A dead shot film would take up a spot that could go to a bigger, 'more interesting DC character. Like a man of steel sequel, green lantern, Shazam, etc. So no thanks

Personally think a Deadshot movie could work and be a good addition to the universe which wouldn't have to take up another movies space.

Make it for about $50 million and make it gritty by someone like McQuarrie making it. He has had some solo story's in the comics

He was the only thing I genuinely liked in SS, so I don't mind this.

I thought it was Smith's best action role in years. And his storyline with his daughter added some much needed weight to some scenes.

There'll be a way that he shoehorns his son into this, just you wait.

I'd be excited for this, it seems to be working for marvel's lesser known characters, so why not for DC, just adds more depth to the universe which I enjoy.

Sure, if there's someone good behind the camera and writing the script. What worked for James Gunn sending the Guardians of the Galaxy into A-list territory may or may not also for work for DC, given their track record.

Agreed, I think developing their villains in their own movies could really pay off down the line.

And this wouldn't have to be a huge blockbuster, it could be a smaller, contained story that delves into his past a bit more. Heck they could have it that Deadshot is tasked with hunting down Deathstroke for Waller and it becomes a grudge match between 2 assassins. There are a number of ways they could go.

I thought I was done with the DCEU until Suicide Squad 2...and then this gets announced.

I guess they would have him go all punisher in his daughter's neighbourhood like he did in the comics.

This is getting embarrassing. No seriously, I'm actually embarrassed for WB right now. A Deadshot solo movie. Wow.

This is because of Will Smith. Not sure if it will work though.

Funnily enough looking at Ayers filmography you would thing this was the movie he was more suited to directing rather than GCS.

Proof's in the pudding dude, and IMO the pudding tasted pretty terrible !

There are movies out there, waiting to be made, that:

a) would be better suited to what remains of Will Smith's once great talent; and

b) would be better suited to David Ayer's directorial abilities; and

c) aren't DCEU movies.

So I hope that Will and David get together again real soon, and entertain us all with their collaboration........just not on a freaking solo Deadshot movie !

I thought it was Smith's best action role in years. And his storyline with his daughter added some much needed weight to some scenes.

To be honest, Will Smith hasn't had a particularly good role in anything for a while ( Focus, Concussion, MIB 3, I am Legend....in fact if you look at his whole filmography it's pretty hit and miss, yes After Earth, Hancock and I Robot, I'm looking at you!) some of those were tolerable, but not much more. I honestly couldn't distinguish Deadshot from any other of Smith's action characters, other than he was a lot less fun.

Also, I respect your opinion, but Deadshot's daughter added a tiny blip to his character, but I think it's a stretch to call that weight because SS was one of the most thinly scripted cbms to date - in comparison Nolan's Dark Knight films were Shakespeare ! (and I'm the guy who's always saying that cbms "ain't Shakespeare" ). The TV version of Deadshot, who's turned up on Arrow has been more entertaining than Smith's film version.

So was Deadpool. A movie doesn't need to be necessary. It just needs to be entertaining.

This is 100% right. So long as they're entertaining, DC could make films about John Constantine's driver Chas, the Legion of Substitute Heroes, or Ralph Dibny (my least favorite JLA member).

Evidence of this is that Dr Strange was incredibly entertaining, and he's hardly one of Marvel's most famous characters (although i think he's always been one of the most interesting). However, given Marvel's track record they can afford to work with lesser characters (which is a record of making many more entertaining films than crappy ones - I hated Iron Man 2 and 3, but otherwise they're films have ranged from good to absolutely great ! ). The fact that they've managed to make amazing movies about Captain America and the Avengers has given them the platform from which to successfully bring the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant Man and Dr Strange to the general audience.

Also, in terms of being a lesser character Deadpool carried his own comic book series, and has been very popular: Deadshot has been a supporting player at best, he's just not that interesting - he's a guy who shoots people and doesn't miss, but there's not a lot more to it than that. Hell, a solo Alfred film has more potential than Deadshot ( the Alfred character on "Gotham" is more interesting than Deadshot, and Pertwee's performance is certainly better than Smith's).

Who knows, DC/WB might make a Deadshot film that stuns critics and audiences..... but given that they can't seem to make entertaining films about their most famous characters, that doesn't inspire confidence in their ability to make a wonderful Deadshot movie.

BTW I'm not a Will Smith hater, he can be great fun - he was one of the things that made the original Independence Day so much fun (stupid fun, but still really fun).

And for those who think that a Deadshot solo feature would be a good idea, well I respect your opinion, but we'll just have to agree to disagree.
