Potential Deadshot Solo?

My thoughts exactly. I suspect this will be another movie people will be waiting to fail.

Seems that way.

I thought the depth was there - enough to make me care about him. Going forward, they need Marnie or someone like her to explore his mother issues and build up the deathwish thing from the comics.

Same here, I thought he was developed quite well in SS, and it left enough out that they could explore in a solo movie and build the character up more.

It's the kind of movie that could bomb in the US but still make a lot of money overseas because Will Smith. Even bombs like After Earth made a lot of money overseas.

There are a couple ways that a great Deadshot movie could be made, not unlike Deadpool:

1) Include lots of fun gun action
2) Include a couple C-list Bat-villains
3) Play up the daughter angle, perhaps even to Last of Us levels.
4) Let Will Smith Will Smith.
5) Keep the budget lean and mean

Unfortunately, the likelihood is that they won't find anyone interested in a Deadshot movie, but only in getting some of that Will Smith potential box office. And that's why most of the above won't happen if the movie happens at all.

If this proceeds I can see a bunch of people moaning and complaining about "why a Deadshot movie?".

A Deadhot movie would need a really big push to sell it. The trailers would need to be on point. Say what you will about the actual movie but SS had the Queen, and Blitz trailer that knocked it out of the park.

Likewise Deadpool also had a stellar marketing campaign that really helped sell the movie.

^Keep in mind that this movie will probably be unable to make or break the DCEU by itself should all films coming before underperform

Just like GCS

I wish there had been a poll for this thread. Something with 5 options ( because I love 5 option polls ) like:

Potential Deadshot Solo ?

1) Great idea, could re-establish WB/DC's credibility, make big bucks and be a highly entertaining film.

2) Good idea, already has a bankable star and the character has a lot of potential. Could be the start of good things for the DCEU, a good world builder at least.

3) Fair idea, could go either way, but something that WB/DC should consider given Will Smith's star power and the fan base of Suicide Squad.

4) Bad idea, Smith's the wrong guy for the role and WB/DC's current line up of directors have all failed to make the darker grittier characters engaging with audiences.

5) Terrible idea, do you own any stock in WB, if so sell now. Wrong on every level.

That's just off the top of my head

Something like that perhaps -although perhaps with less sarcasm. It would be neat to see where the balance of opinions lie. While I'm probably a 4, on the above scale, I've seen a lot of folks strongly defend the idea.
While I'm not shy about disagreeing with people, I try to never dismiss people's opinions out of hand - rather I try to respect them (and recently I've been told I'm sounding a bit condescending, which is totally unintentional, as I'm genuinely interested in what people have to say, no matter how strongly I disagree).

Anyway, I think it would be interesting to see if there's a strong majority for either end of the spectrum, and how many people are neutral. How significant would that be in terms of the general audience, probably not very.
But, I believe in the power of word of mouth, and that often starts with the fans.
