Bad choice and he was bad enough as Daredevil to promise never to do another superhero role (after it became clear how people felt about the movie, this matters because it shows a contempt for the audience after his earlier it turns out false contrition). His directing in Gone Baby Gone and Argo was superb yet that says nothing of him as an actor. His skills, already limited even in his best roles, have also been shown to have a strong negative correlation to his success. I would have been really interested in what he might bring behind the camera, or even in a supporting role, but as a lead I'm strongly skeptical.
I didn't see the Mark Webb Spider-Man movies because they didn't look good, and this choice makes me somewhat less likely to have faith in the new DC movies. Warner Brothers has not made a single good Superhero movie, without it being contracted out to Legendary Pictures, since Batman Returns...
