Hey I was looking on the internet for some comic info and ran into some info on the preacher comic and was just wondering if anyone could tell me is it worth picking up the trades?

PS. A little backstory will help.:O

While I'm too tired to get into any "backstory", I can just say that in my 32 years of buying comics, Preacher ranks right up there as one of the best things to have come out of the industry.

If you pick up the trades, don't read the forward by Kevin Smith in eitehr Book 1 or Book 2... he spoils the story.

Happy reading...

:yay:

In a word: Yes.

EDIT (By Elijya): I put Joke's summary of the series into spoilers, because the story is really good and you should experience it first hand and not have it spoiled for you. But if you really want a summary anyway, then you can read this

Basically, it's about a preacher, Jesse, who, after gainining the ability to verbally command people to do anything he wants, decides to trek across the country to catch God who has abandoned his post in heaven, to make him pay for that and his utter disregard towards humankind. He's also joined by his old girlfriend, who's a part-time hitman and Cassidy, a vampire.
There are also people/organizations after Jesse. First, his grandmother and her band of merry southern religious zealots, a centuries old organization whose purpose is to keep the Christ bloodline alive and the Saint Of Killers, a 7-foot Clint Eastwood-type cowboy who the angels currently in-charge of Heaven, sent after Jesse to get back Genesis, the child of a demon and an angel, who after escaping his imprisonment in heaven, bonded with Jesse, giving him the aformentioned ability to command people and also full knowledge of heaven and God.

I LOVED Preacher. It's one of the best comics I've ever read and I highly recommend it if you hacve a strong stomach.

Thanks Gents I will pick those up thanks again.

I hope/wonder if the HBO series could spur DC into cranking out couple of Absolute Preacher volumes.

Yes, the series is great, although be careful if you're Christian and easily offended

it's an entirely linear series, so make sure to read volumes 1-9 in order

and as TMOB pointed out, don't read the introduction to volume 2 until you've finished the book
