Prison Break: Fox's new groundbreaking series

Ok, I've watched like an episode worth of a couple episodes, and to me, this show seems to be as good as Lost was in it's first season. I'm REALLY tempted to pick up the boxsets when I go back to uni (and I have a loverly extended over draft.. hurrah), but I just want to see if people think:
a) It's worth it.
b) that i'll like it.

For the record, I love character driven shows. I prefer the shows I watch to have an air of escapism, and some of the ones I enjoy are:
Lost, 24, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate and Farscape.
Now I know it won't be like the last three, but as long as the character development is quite strong and relationships develop and such, i'm pretty sure i'll dig it. What does everyone think of this show?

Well, it doesn't have the same amount of escapism as Battlestar Galactica, Stargate and Farscape, and it offers a pretty brutal depiction of prison life. But seeing as you love 24, Lost and character driven shows I can guarantee you you'll LOVE prison Break. 24, Lost and Prison Break are three of my favorite shows as well, Prison Break offers some wonderful characters and the tension between them is at the center of the show.

It's definitely worth delving into. During the 22 episodes of the first season there's never a dull moment and the pay-off at the end of the season is very satisfying.
